With a country so rich in attractive regions, this could be regarded as a tough question, but the kings of the Valois dynasty in the late 15th and early 16th Centuries were in no doubt about their answer. They picked on the lower valley of the Loire, and in particular the stretch between Orleans and Tours, to site their out-of-town chateaux and hunting-lodges. Where they led the court naturally followed, and soon any ambitious aristocrat felt the need to have a prestigious pied-a-terre nearby from which to keep in touch with current intrigue and to curry favour with the king. Cain Valley Hotel

Advantages: Good picturesque area with friendly staff
Disadvantages: Lack of facilites within the town, it rains a lot in Wales

...The Cain Valley Hotel is a 2 star hotel situated in the town centre of Llanfyllin, it is a 15 minutes drive away from the picturesque Lake Vyrnwy, renowned for its bird attraction. Also within a 15 minute drivinge distance is Pistyll Rhayader, one of the seven wonders of Wales, it is the highest Waterfall in Great Britain. Llanfyllin really is a great place to base yourself if you want to explore Wales, and Powys and Chirk Caste are both nearby. Y Dolydd musical festival is also an attraction and it takes place at the end of June and accomodation may be avaiable for that weekend. The hotel has its own Car Park so this is not a problem and the hotel is relatively easy to find. kings hotel

Advantages: cheap but luxurious
Disadvantages: None that I can think of!!!!

...One of the best hotels Ive stayed in and Ive stayed in many. We went in december out of season and got a double room for about 30 pounds. Bargain. I was happily surprised when I openend the door and found a gorgeous room with a four poster bed. Vey elegant. The room was lovely and warm and the bathroom was very modern if a bit on the small side but who cares the shower was great. There was loads of useful brochures about munich. There was a wonderful breakfast buffet in the morning. well it was more like a three course meal, there was everything meat, fish, cheese as well as all the other breakfast usuals. The staff were proffesional and genuinely friendly and not at all arrogant. well reccomended!!!!!!...

The King Charles Hotel

Advantages: Not a bad price, decent rooms.
Disadvantages: A bit basic!

...I've stayed in this hotel a few times, and to be honest, it's not a bad hotel. The facilities are exactly what you'd expect for the price, it's a bit basic but if you are just looking for a place to stay for a couple of nights, it's not bad. Right, I'll start with where it is. The address is Brompton Road, Gillingham, Kent and it is situated right next to the Black Lion Leisure Centre. It's about a 15 minute walk from Gillingham Train Station, or there is Chatham Train Station which is about a 30 minute walk away. There are obviously regular buses which stop near the hotel or taxi's if you don't fancy braving the buses. There's a lot of attractions nearby if you are planning to sight-see. There's Gillingham High Street 5 minutes from the hotel, which is basic and small, but it's not bad for a couple of hours shopping...

Valley of the kings- not to be missed

Advantages: amazing access and fantastic amount of history and culture
Disadvantages: 50oc in summer is a little too hot for a long day

...I first visited Egypt last summer (2005) with my partner. We chose to stay in the Hurghada resort for two weeks in june. on the coast the temperature was between 30-35oc. We were planning on spending two nights in cairo looking at the pyraminds however we spoke to our tour guide who reccommended a five hour coach journey to Luxor instead. Our first reaction was to dismiss it as five hours each way is a very long day in the summer heat but our guide was very enthusiatic about Luxor and in particular Valley of the kings so we gave it a go. Our morning call was at 4am but suprisingly the journey did not seem that longand in fact I found it really interesting after travelling through the desert we drove along the Nile and through villages where children and their parents were working or playing in the fields or waving estacically...

Queen of the Valley

Advantages: Interesting, very interesting!
Disadvantages: The most famous tomb is now closed.

...announcing my name change to Nefertiti (the beautiful (or perfect) woman has come). ~Getting there~ The Valley of the Queens is a short distance from the Valley of the Kings, just the other side of Queen Hatshepsut's Burial Temple (see my last review Queen of Hats & Cheap Suits). Getting there would generally be by coach or taxi and it is probably about 20 mins from Luxor. As this site was included as part of our trip, we took the coach from Queen Hatshepsut's temple to the Valley of the Queens, this took us all of about 10 mins and again, we arrived in yet another coach park and had to run the gauntlet of the mini market & souvenirs. ~I'm going in~ We get to the gates to go through to the valley and hand our little tickets over, and make our way along the dusty path (it looks exactly like the one in the picture above). Louis King Jason Hotel, Cyprus

Advantages: Clean, spaceous, pool, gym, sauna, restaurant, friendly staff.
Disadvantages: Antiquated equipment in gym, low chlorine levels in pools.

...I arrived at this hotel on the 7th December 2005 for a weeks long 'winter sun' holiday. From Paphos airport, the hotel was very simple to find,despite the various building projects going on in the surrounding area (will not affect quality of stay). I was very encouraged to see numerous awards from 'Thomson Holidays' on the wall, for various accolades such as 'Best Winter Sun Apartments' and 'Best Summer Sun Apartments' for countless years, with the last one being awarded for the Winter of 2004. Upon arrival, the hotel staff were very friendly and were on hand with a much welcomed glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. Our bags were taken from us and placed in our rooms. We were informed of our arrangements and given our keys and allowed to procede to our room. The rooms are very spaceous, I was staying in a 4 bed apartment...

More Prince Charles than King Charles...

Advantages: Grand, atmospheric bedrooms and posh bathrooms
Disadvantages: Disappointing breakfast, lack of facilities, distance from town centre.

...I'd wanted to go to Prague for YEARS and finally got my wish in December 2008 when my boyfriend and I went over for three nights to get into the Christmas spirit with mulled wine and gingerbread. I'd thoroughly recommend the city for a short break, but this review is about our hotel. We booked through lastminute.com, and it came down to a choice between the King Charles and a very modern plate-glass-and-red-Perspex type edifice that was only built in 2007. We decided to go with the King Charles as I thought it looked a little bit grand and Gothic and atmospheric and was more in-keeping with the 'feel' of Prague. I'm not one for all mod-cons. It was listed a four-star hotel but it was on offer so we paid only about £25 each per night. When we received our confirmation email, the hotel reception also offered to come and collect us...

Review of King Charles Boutique Hotel Residence, Prague

hotel sol principe is fit for a king.

Advantages: everything about the place is an advantage.
Disadvantages: the non smoking policy (for some)

...With the exception of Tenerife I usually tend to holiday places only once, preferring to try new places rather than return to ones I have already visited. I have been to torremolinos twice now though and a large part of the reasoning behind that is this wonderful hotel (Sol Principe). This hotel is situated alongside the beach of Playa mar approximately 2km outside the city of torremolinos. It is served by Malaga airport which is a little over 4 miles away and takes only a 15 minute transfer by coach to reach. On approach to this hotel the first thing that caught my eye was the size of the grounds it stood in but it soon became apparent why. This hotel is actually part of a complex which includes as well as the hotel itself the Apartments Sol Principito, a fairly large private car park, a sports area, gardens, a supermarket...
