...Day 1 in Egypt, site number 2 (and it is only 09:30), so let's do away with the babble and launch right in.... ~What's this place all about then?~ The Valley of the Queens is the burial site for the Queens & children of the Pharaohs of the 18th, 19th & 20th dynasties (1550 - 1070BC). It is said that there are about 70 (some claim as many as 85) different burial sites in the area. Probably the most famous tomb here is that of Queen Nefertari*, which is the largest and most spectacular in the valley. Unfortunately, this tomb is now no longer open, we were told by our guide that a couple of years ago there was some rain in the valley, which caused some damage to Nefertari's tomb. Advantages: Chateaux and gardens, old towns and local cuisine
Disadvantages: Unexciting landscapes, well-trodden tourist trail

InnTravel do a short walking tour that takes you past some of the main chateaux with your luggage transported between stopovers, but having walked some of their route myself I have to say it's rather uninspiring. If you want to hike, seek hillier country further south or east. On the other hand, the Loire Valley is probably well-suited to a cycling tour, if you like that sort of thing. The area's not very well equipped for family holidays, unless you have the sort of precocious youngsters who revel in stately homes, mediaeval churches and ancient towns. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * So were they right, those Valois kings, to choose the Loire? Review of Loire Valley (France)

Lightwater Valley - home of the underdog.

Advantages: Cheap, Largely good rides, At times beautiful...
Disadvantages: ...at times shoddy, In-park prices not so good, looking a little run down.

...Visiting theme parks is ultimately, somewhat of a pot luck experience - queues, weather, ride breakdowns can make or mangle your day, and ultimately that is what you should bear in mind when reading a review on one - you day is not necessarily in your own hands, but the wise traveller would be one who remembers the golden rule - eat early and late, bring a change of clothes, and plan in advance those things you want to do, and you're halfway there. Anyhoo. So is it any good? Almost. Anyone new to Lightwater Valley, and if you are reading this review, then there's a good chance that might be you, on a good day, Lightwater valley is a hoot, on a bad day, it is a chore - but either way, it is home to one of Europe's finest Roller coasters, and for a newbie, that is worth the admission price alone. Advantages: A Great Day Out
Disadvantages: Lots Of Enviromental Damage Was Caused During Its Creation

THINGS TO SEE & DO This area is very popular with walkers throughout the year and the surrounding Moors offer some good challenges for the more experienced hikers which will be rewarded with fantastic views of the Valley. For the less experienced walkers there are plenty of easy flat walks through the Valley, one of the easiest being the walk along the Tarmac Road from Fairholmes to the end of the Valley, a round trip of about 4 miles. This area is also popular with Birdwatchers too and there are many rare Birds to be found here. Birds of Prey include Buzzards, Peregrine Falcons and the ultra rare Goshawk. Whilst the Woodlands that surround the Reservoirs hold Woodpeckers, Crossbills and Siskins. Many visitors to the area will however come here simply to enjoy the fresh air...

A small island lies in the one and a half mile stretch of water. The reservoir and its enormous dam were made famous by the Dam busters ,(or operation Chastise, with Barnes Wallis and his famous bouncing bomb), during World War II. The Dam being very similar to the German dams so the RAF used it to practice there low flying raids. (The majority of the actual film was shot here) Getting there?.. This is flanked by the two storey accommodation wings - the white walls & painted frames around the near room-height windows indicating the reception/bedrooms, slightly inset plain stonework with tiny windows, the en-suite bathrooms. All topped by shallow pagoda style roofs, typical of the area. The restaurant on the upper floor of the hub gives wonderful views across the valley. It is simply furnished for communal dining, has a small bar & a large woodstove. Food is brought up from the kitchen down below, and served buffet style in an alcove off the seating area. Rooms are accessed from the rear, either directly from the pavement or by external staircase. All have superb outlook, but if you are lucky enough to be given one of the wing-ends, you will find a three-sided panorama through which to watch the sunrise from your bed...

Hunter Valley - Wine Tours

Advantages: Got to taste loads of different wines and learn about them
Disadvantages: Not much else to do other than wine tasting

...eating area and the views are amazing! You can see the vineyards stretched out into the distance. There is a playground for children and plenty of places you can have a picnic lunch at. There is a wine museum showing wine technology dating back to the last century and Australia's oldest wine press. We did not see this museum so I'm not sure what it is like. Last stop was Tulloch which has been producing wines in Hunter Valley for 111 years. They do functions, weddings, corporate and social events. This place seemed the most upmarket of them all. We were taken into what looked like a board room and tasted more wine, port and liquors. By this stage I had enough of tasting wine and was glad it was the last stop. Here we got a price list with all the wines available and it showed us on the list what food suited what wine. We also were shown...

...Being not far from me is Chew Valley Lakes, which is situated to the South West of Bristol. I often drive here just really for a couple of hours out of the house, somewhere I find relaxing, and refreshing, especially on a bright and sunny day. It actually comes under the heading of a Tourist Attraction, but when i think of those words I think of somewhere that would fill a day, and plenty of things to do and see. There are things to do but somehow does not conjure up the word of a Tourist Attraction, here is a guideline of what there is. ***** The Lake ***** The lake as shown in the picture above, is a large reservoir, which actually comes under the County of Somerset, and as I said earlier is situated to the South West of Bristol. ...From Oasis's ?Definitely Maybe? to ?Word gets Around? by the stereophonics and Wet Wet Wet's ?Popped In Souled OutI? have always liked band's debut albums. I find them raw , enthusiastic and aspirational but at the same time down to earth and easy to relate to. To add to my list is ?Hats off to the Buskers the Mercury nominated debut by by Dundonian quartet the View. The View are a young indie band who hail from the Dundee district of Dryburgh. There music is rooted in their background with lead singer Kyle Falconer's vocals proudly displaying the Dundonian burr, which is a pleasure to listen to. You are in an area where you can be on a plateau with what seems like endless horizons, surrounded by sunflowers, in a deep valley, in dense forest, by a mighty river and always where your eye will be drawn to something of interest. You can be happy just driving the wonderful roads (where a lot of French taxpayers money must go!) stopping at any one of hundreds of pretty towns and villages that the region has to offer. Tourists are of course drawn to the area to view the numerous chateaux and I can understand why, having visited many during our visits.
