A complete Waste of money!
Review of Dr.Brown Baby Bottle by
CarolLouise
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Expensive waste of Money
...My baby suffered from bad colic and we gave Infacol then I saw these bottles in Mothercare.
The principal is that by using a special valve, the risk of air becoming trapped, bubbles being formed and hence baby getting wind is reduced.
In fact, having spent £12 on two bottles, we found they made absolutely no difference.
The bottles themselves are nice to look at in a sort of smoked plastic. They have a valve which goes in the top of the bottle then a special teat. They come with a special cleaner to ensure you can get into all the little areas in the unit.
They are microwaveable and dishwasher proof.
Before you heat the bottle you have to take the valve out. This means taking off the lid and teat and pulling out the valve. This results in some milk being spilled and air getting into the bottle before you heat it.
Once heated...

Dealing with a flat tyre
Review of Bicycles by
trickster
Advantages: saves you walking home!
Disadvantages: be prepared to get your hands dirty
...---THE SCENARIO---
One minute you're hurtling down the hill with the wind in your hair, the next you've shot into someone's garden after squashing a baby hedgehog. The bike tyre is buggered and you're going to have to fix it - but how are you going to get it off?
---FIRST CHECK---
If on the road, first, in order to detect a leak you can spit on your fingertip and put a film of saliva across the top of the valve to detect a leak.
If the valve is not faulty then check the tyre for anything that may have caused the puncture, such as a nail or a piece of glass (or hedgehog spikes!) and note its position.
---REMOVING THE TYRE AND TUBE---
Upturn the bicycle so that it stands on its saddle and handlebars. Unscrew the knurled nut holding the valve assembly and push the valve up inside the wheel rim.
Next insert tyre levers (I use the handles...

Not found anything better!
Review of Avent Magic Cup by
jugs21
Advantages: Interchangeable parts with bottles too, Very durable
Disadvantages: Valves don't last very long, do sometimes leak.
...As my first child never drank juice, only water and milke for the first 12 months we never used a drinking cup before then.
We tried an AnyWayUpCup first but no matter how hard he tried he could not suck any juice out. Even my hubsand and I found it difficult to get anything out! So we bouhgt some Avent cups.
We paid £5 for 2 9oz cups with handles from a supermarket (I think it was Morrisons/Safeway)
The cups dismantle into the cup part, the handles, the twisting lid, the spout and the valve which is 2 pieces.
The cup, handles, lid and half the valve are hard plastic. The teat and the other part of the valve are softer plastic/rubber. The valve works by not allowing anything to leak from the spout unless sucked. Unlike the AnyWayUpCup it doesn't take a hard suck to get the juice out.
We found that after a about 3 months the valves...

Tomme Tippee Anti-colic bottles
Review of Tommee Tippee Feeding Bottle by
Cazza242
Advantages: Did wonders for my sons Colic
Disadvantages: The rubber valve keeps popping off leaving son and sofa soaked in milk
...I purchased four of these Anti-Colic bottles to help my sons Colic and to be honest it seems to have helped tremendously. Now I am so angry with the bottles as I am finding my son and my sofa frequently soaked in Milk. The valves at the bottom of the anticolic tube just pops away and the milk gets into it passing out through the top.
I am forever having to open the bottle and retrieve the rubber valve to replace it only for it to fall off numerous times.
I did email Tommee Tippee who were extremely quick I must say to send two replacement valves but just when I think Ive replaced possibly two funny valves the others have given up. They are put on very securely so they dont fall off but they do anyway. I think theres a design fault and its so frustrating otherwise these without that fault would be well worth the money....

Get the dump valve sound for your car!!
Review of Saber-EDV Dump Valve Simulator by
the-mole
Advantages: Gives your car the dump valve sound without increasing insurance premiums
Disadvantages: Does nothing to increase your cars speed and the sound is always the same
...There are car enthusiasts who know everything about cars, then there are the rest of us!! For the purists out there you will never be able to compare or compete with a great turbo conversion and dump valve kit regardless of the cost.
Well for the enthusiasts who perhaps lack a bit more technical knowledge, or budget we still want our car to turn heads.
The SABER-EDV is a dump valve simulator. This product creates the Whoosh sound associated with turboed cars which have a dump valve fitted. It doesn't increase your cars speed, nor insurance premiums, it merely gives your car the sound of a dump valve to help create the illusion that your car uses a turbo. Obviously if you pop your bonnet you will soon realise your little 1.2 nova will not be packing a turbo, but for the un-initiated - will they even know what a turbo looks like.
I...

Yamaha Student trumpets
Review of Yamaha Trumpets by
johnalderton
Advantages: Good quality and always reliably in tune.
Disadvantages: Cost a bit more than similar student trumpets.
...Yamaha have been making musical instruments for over one hundred years and I have always found their brass instruments to be reliably in tune, which is not always the case with other student trumpets.
Since about 1980, they have always had a student instrument priced between £250 and £300. The 2320 model was originally the only one in this price range. It is a well made instrument with quite good valves, and hard wearing gold colour lacquer finish. It has a mobile third valve slide for fine-tuning the low D and C#. As prices of instruments were rising, and the 2320 went over the £300 mark, they introduced a cheaper trumpet into the UK.
The first of these was the T100S This is a silver plated trumpet, with a smaller bore than the 2320, making it suitable for younger players. The valves are reasonable, so long as they are regularly...

The benefits of a diesel without dirving a taxi
Review of Vauxhall Corsa Club 1.0i by
nickjdixon
Advantages: Cheap to run, spacious interior
Disadvantages: Not a performance car
...At first I'd considered the 1.2 16v, because I thought the 1.0 might be as sluggish as the old 8-valve, but when the dealer showed me a pre-registered 12-valve with 25% off the list price, I had to give it a chance - and I'm glad I did.
The car is much nippier that the older 8-valve; the performance isn't earth-shattering, but I don't need to dash up to 60 that often, or drive at 100mph, so in most situations it's quick enough. It picks up reasonably quickly from around 2,000 revs, and it gets around corners much more comfortably than the older Corsa.
Anyway, you don't buy a car like this for performance; this car's best feature is economy. The road tax is only £100, insurance is low, and the car thinks it's a diesel: I consistently get 55mpg, which is significant when driving 20,000 miles a year.
Compared with the larger-engined 16...

Not A Wet Seat In The House
Review of Anyway Up Cups by
loufenner
Advantages: NO SPILLS!!
Disadvantages: lids need replacing
...It’s 8.00pm. You have bathed the kids, and put them to bed. You make yourself a well earned cuppa (if I was to say a large glass of wine you would all think I was an alcoholic!) and plonk yourself down on the sofa…”EEEEWWW…. What is that!!” You have just sat down on a huge wet patch. No I havn’t wet myself, the little one has spilled the contents of her beaker again.
This used to happen to me before I came across this amazing beaker that does NOT leak. The name of the beaker describes it perfectly, the “anyway up cup”.
The beaker is the same shape as most conventional beakers; a cup with a handle on both sides and a lid with a spout. The spout is the clever part. It has a special pressure valve that requires your toddler to suck on in order to release the fluid through it. Once your...

Avent Magic cup - hooray he can drink out of it
Review of Avent Magic Cup by
Fiona2403
Advantages: found a cup he actually drinks out of
Disadvantages: leaks, lose the valve in the washing up bowl
..., but I haven't bought one of these yet.
The cups are brightly coloured, the choice when I purchased my cup was either yellow or bright pink or green. The screw on bits are different colours to the body of the cup giving the cup a generally attractive look to it.
The Avent magic cup has a patented magic valve in it that does stop juice or water coming out the spout unless baby sucks on it. I thought this maybe created a problem until baby gets used to the idea because he doesn't know the instrument of torture I am trying to get fluid into him by to prevent him dehyrating does have some yummy juice in for him. The magic valve is detachable for the spout so to give him the idea I took the valve out so juice just flowed out freely - watch those carpets if trying this! The juice does come out quite fast through if the valve is not in so it can...

578 grams of goodness.
Review of Therm-a-Rest UltraLite Full Length Mat by
steveking5000
Advantages: Pack Size, Weight, Reliability
Disadvantages: Cost, Slidyness
...This is the ultimate camping mat.
When i first set my eyes on this product i was sceptical about the price. I had seen foam mats for £10, and seeing this for £60 i couldnt imagine myself buying one. But i did, and i have never looked back!
When backpacking for the first time, you try your best to get most things right. Spending alot of money on one product will save you spending money on alot of other cheaper products, but you will always end up purchasing the creme de la creme, and this Therm-a-rest is just that.
Its pack-size is amazing for what it is. No other mat can offer the same thickness (2.5cm fully inflated) for the smallest pack size of 28cmx15cm, which for a sleeping mat is tiny. Weighinhg in at 578grams is lightInflating is a ease by just opening the valve and blowing air into the valve slowly and in-frequently, as the mat...
