The Werewolf, the Vampire Woman and the Rapist.

Advantages: Both quite good for the money £2
Disadvantages: Film quality of the second feature isnt great.

...The Screaming Skull This is two film reviews in one review so sorry for the length. This Screaming Skull review was written a long time ago. I just hadn?t got round to watching The Werewolf vs. The Vampire Woman yet. So they?re quite different types of review. The Screaming Skull is a 1958 black and white horror film directed by Alex Nicol I knew I was going to like The Screaming Skull from the beginning. A voiceover plays whilst we view a coffin in an empty room. ?The Screaming Skull is a motion picture that reaches its climax in shocking horror. Its impact is so terrifying it may have an unforeseen affect: it may kill you. Therefore its producers feel they must assure free burial services to anyone who dies of fright while seeing The Screaming Skull? The film itself then starts and a newly wed couple are moving into...

MR. VAMPIRE (1985)

Advantages: Good balance of Comedy, Horror and Action all roll into one.
Disadvantages: Slightly dated with fuzzy subtitltes.

...I first watched 'Mr Vampire' back in 1991 on Channel 4. There was a season of Chinese Horror movies introduced and presented by Jonathan Ross to the Western world. I was brought up with these sorts of movies, therefore I was used to the style and genre. Now being slightly older and becoming more aware of differences in culture, I can see why Mr Vampire should be one of the Chinese films to be introduced. Horror films in Western industry tend to be straight-forward horror. If there was comedy in the film, it might be a line said by a character, which might be funny at the situation or event. Or to more present days, there could be the over-the-top comedy horror such as Scary Movies; which in my view is not actually scary at all. I think the British 'Shaun of the Dead' has achieved a similar effect to Chinese Comedy...

Review of Mr Vampire (DVD)

Would you interview a vampire?

Advantages: good story, really interesting, gripping
Disadvantages: the tenses (see review)

...it would be hard for any author to have to set a story out this way. The only author that comes to mind that has not only a weird way of telling a story, but who is such a clever author is Meg Cabot... However Cabot has yet to write a book quite like this one in the same format... And I sure hope Anne Rice's books get better and better. The story line is pretty simple. You start off by following this young interviewer who is also a journalist. Recently a guy, called Louis, is claiming to be a vampire, told this interviewer that he wants his story to be known. So we follow the interviewer who is going to see this vampire. Louis then decides to tell the interviewer about his life, how he was before and how he was when he turned and then the rest of his life up until now. However the interviewer wants more and more and so therefore...

Vampire Weekend have a bit of bite to them

Advantages: original, great instrumentation and rythmns
Disadvantages: Not an immediate album

...I might be a bit of a Brit pop babe and really love my quirky, little known Scottish indie bands but lately I have been seeking inspiration from across the pond. Recently there have been a number of bands from the good old US of A that have impressed me such as the Hold steady, The Gaslight Anthem and the subject of this review Vampire Weekend . Vampire Weekend are a quartet that hail from New York state and released their eponymous debut album in 2008. I discovered them when their catchy single ?Oxford Comma? was played extensively on XFM. Their name may suggest a goth or emo band but they are far from this. There are certainly no overwrought, gloomy dark lyrics here. Vampire Weekend are far from generic and sound unlike any indie or alternative band I know of combining African percussion rhythms ala Paul Simon on the ?Rhythm...

Vampire Weekend: The Debut Album

Advantages: Uplifting and puts you in a good mood!
Disadvantages: only disappointing song was "One"

...Vampire Weekend, a band from New York, started out in 2006 and released a few songs but this album which is their debut album was not released until January 2008. I bought this album two weeks ago and have listened to it a number of times and really enjoyed it. The music is uplifting and easy to listen to. The genre of music is quite a mix its mainly indie with some uplifting afro beats. With one song even reminding me very much of a traditional Slovenian dance I saw! Some of the lyrics are a little bizzare but it all adds to the individuality and uplifting style brought to the album by the band. The songs on the album are as follows: 1. Mansford Roof - A fairly short song but puts you in a good mood for the rest of the album and gives you a taste of whats to come. 2. Oxford Comma - Quite a well known song if you listen to...

Interview with the Vampire

Advantages: Amazing movie
Disadvantages: Wanted it to go on and on and it did but not for long enough!

...In my opinion Interview with the Vampire has to be one of the most awe inspiring vampire movies of its time. With an all star cast including Brad Pitt (Fight Club, Mr and Mrs Smith, troy), Tom Cruise (Top Gun, Mission Impossible, Minority Report), Antonio Banderas (The Mask of Zorro, Desperado), a young Kirsten Dunst (Spiderman) and more. The story itself is loosely based around the book Interview with the Vampire written by Anne Rice. The movie was directed by Neil Jordan, who has also directed many other memorable films including 'The end of the Affair' and 'The Crying Game.' The movie begins with the meeting of the young reporter Daniel (Christian Slater) and Louis (Brad Pitt) meeting together in the room where for the duration of the movie Louis will unveil his story to the man. Daniel due to his inquisitive nature soon finds that...

Review of Interview With The Vampire (DVD)

Vampire is as Vampire does...

Advantages: Super vampire effects
Disadvantages: The script gets a little corny at times...which is a surprise

...John Carpenter is a master of the monster, vampire horror movie. I have seen this film countless times and some of the dodgy acting aside (yes - there is just a small bit of this now and again...would vampires really go around looking like a poor mans extra from cats!?!) the story is well thought out, entertaining and appropriately gory. I am a huge fan of gore...but it has to be in all of the right places. I don't buy into gore fests with out a great plot and the first time we see gore in this film is during the celebration of the destruction of a vampire nest. The master is pissed and comes out fighting for revenge. some quick movements later and bham! Heads are rolling! There are the usual group of characters type cast to this genre..the hapless priest, fighting for good, the brave hero, who is essentially a anti hero - clearly...

Review of John Carpenter's Vampires (DVD)

How do you actually assist a vampire?

Advantages: Easy Viewing
Disadvantages: No Great Performances, A Bit Forgettable

...Cirque Du Freak ? The Vampires Assistant Cirque Du Freak is a film based on the book series ?The Saga of Darren Shan? written by Darren Shan. I have never read the book myself, so this review will have no comparisons of the 2. Details ---------- Released: 23rd October 2009 Certificate: 12a Running Time: 109 Mins Directed By: Paul Weitz Plot ------ Darren is your usual 16 year old boy, although a bit of a goodie goodie and obsessed with spiders. Along with his best friend Steve, Darren decides to sneak out and visit a travelling freak show that is in town one evening. Here the boys manage to get themselves in trouble, and when vampires are part of the show, they realise just how much trouble. Review of Cirque Du Freak - The Vampire's Assistant (DVD)

The Vampire's Assistant, what a sequel!!

Advantages: anyone of any age can enjoy, gripping storyline
Disadvantages: really difficult to put the book down

...General introduction to the book The vampire's assistant. Part two of the amazing 'Saga of Darren Shan', and the sequel to the excellent 'Cirque du Freak', as the front cover tells us - "Cirque du freak - the nightmare continues..." As we know, this 'nightmare' is what Darren's life is turning into, as at the end of the first book we see Darren having to become a half-vampire as Mr Crepsley's assistant in order to save his best friend Steve Leonard (or as Darren calls him Steve Leopard). He also has to fake his death because he realises he can no longer live a normal human life with the vampiric blood running through his veins. The official introduction at the beginning of the book My name's Darren Shan. I'm a half vampire. I wasn't born that way. I used to be ordinary. I lived at home with my parents and younger sister...

Review of The Vampire's Assistant - Darren Shan

The story of the first Vampire.

Advantages: Really Useful Sourcebook.
Disadvantages: Limited Usefullness, May Offend Some People.

...I have been playing Vampire the Masquerade for about 6 years now, ever since I met my fiancé and I love it. For those of you unfamiliar with Vampire the Masquerade I will tell you a little about it. @~~)~~~~ Vampire The Masquerade ~~~(~~@ Vampire the Masquerade is a role-playing game, (RPG), which was published by White Wolf publishing. They do not make it in this format anymore. Now there is a core rules book for all the "world of darkness" games and additional books for the separate RPGs such as Vampire, (now called Vampire: The Requiem), Werewolf and Mage. The old format was a core rules book for each of the games plus lots of sourcebooks, (extra books full of information to help you enrich your games). You can get the "quickstart" rules, (a condensed version of the rules so you can't start playing without forking out...
