RAW VAN MORRISON AT HIS BEST.
Advantages: Timeless classic.
Disadvantages: None.
...I have for many years been a fan of Van Morrison. For me, his music epitomizes the rawness of the sixties, and although he has made many albums since this one, I still believe this to be one of the best that Van Morrison ever created. This album, although something of an experimental one at the time, was the foundation of a career that would span decades, and as I listen to newer works by Van Morrison, the roots that he created with Astral Weeks still come out in the harmonies and mood of his present work, although of course, like with all good artists, his work has evolved into newness. One of the most impressive images that this album produces in my mind is how new and experimental the sixties were, and how artists were encouraged to be inventive, and not merely copiers of earlier styles.
The sheer professionalism of this album...

Van The Man
Advantages: A return to his deserved pedestal of Music God
Disadvantages: See opinion
...Just when you think he can't reproduce the good stuff, he goes and does it again.
"Perfect Fit" jump starts you into the album, real finger-snapping-toe-tapping-light-on-the-horns-and-heavy-on-the-catchy-beat stuff. Some very nice, but cleverly simple, guitar playing by Ronnie Johnson. It sets you up for the delights that are to follow.
Slow down to a stroll with "Russian Roulette" and then enjoy a little jazzy jiggle to "Raincheck". Tremendously cool and an immediate personal favourite.
The tempo drops straight back down with some classy piano and sax playing, in the bluesy "You don't know me" - duetted with Shana Morrison. Very pleasing on the ear, surprise surprise.
"No Religion", "Underlying Depression" and "Songwriter" are reminiscent of the Moondance album, plenty of warm fuzzy feelings as you dip your toes in...

Van the man!!
Advantages: The best van album ever
Disadvantages: None.
...As i have said before i am totally addicted to Van Morrison. The guy is a genious.
This is vans first solo album Van released when he finally escaped the clutches of Bert Berns and the Bang label.
I think that this album is special because it was the first album that Van could do his own thing on and really lose him self. They recorded each song as live rather than each musician individually so there is a real atmosphere to the album. In some songs the guitars seem to be a little out of tune, but that really just adds to the whole magic of the album. And its all accoustic.
The album is very spiritual, philosophical and poetic which i guess is typical Van the man, but this is the album where he does it best.
Each song sweeps you into the next. Some sweeping faster than others, some making you want to hear them just once...

Van is definately the man
Advantages: some brilliant songs
Disadvantages: that Cliff duet
...The shops are awash with "Best of" compilations which turn out to contain one top twenty single and a heap of instantly forgettable fillers. It is very rare to find one which is packed full of quality music. The Best of Van Morrison is one of the later. Make no mistake, this is the genuine article.
This CD contains twenty mainly outstanding tracks from Ireland's hero. If you think you don't know any Van songs then this recording may surprise you. It certainly surprised me. The majority of these tracks are commonplace on the likes of Virgin and Radio 2's Johnny Walker show. (and no doubt on other decent radio stations I don't get in deepest Aberdeenshire)
While a little young for Van at his peak I was aware of his music although I had never bought any. A couple of weeks of listening to a Napster download of "Brown Eyed Girl...

More reasons to shop at Morrisons!
Advantages: Good offers.
Disadvantages: Too many tempting treats!
...I never had a Morrisons close by but I would occasionally get to go with other people to do a shop and I always loved shopping here, but then recently my local supermarket was replaced by a Morrisons and I was very pleased as I preferred it to the supermarket that was originally there. My weekly shopping bill greatly reduced which was a real bonus. The supermarket felt bigger and offered more choice. I have been shopping here for a couple of years now however the prices have gone up dramatically in the past couple of months due to the economical climate.
The store layout has remained the same but has had a few changes but then has gone back to the same standard layout of most supermarkets. I can?t quite understand why they put the fruit and Veg. to the front of the store as this always leaves me rearranging my food in my trolley...

An inside view of working for Morrisons.
Advantages: Good perks, good working conditions, good progression possibilities.
Disadvantages: Job can be tough mentally and physically.
...This being my first ever review of anything, please bear with me!
I have read with keen interest the reviews posted on this website with regards to working for the supermarket Morrisons. As a review is a personal experience in relation to a product or service I thought I would add my voice.
I have worked for Morrisons for a little over 2 years. I started on the nightshift working five out seven nights totalling 39 hours per week. I worked on the grocery department and for the most part had set aisles to work, thus meaning I was in control of those aisles - ordering, merchandising, presentation etc. To me this makes complete sense as you quickly get used to layouts, stock levels/requirements, rather than working random aisles where you cannot get a feel for the job. Deliveries come in during the day and when the nightshift starts it...

Magnificently we can float in to the mystic
Advantages: It's bloody good
Disadvantages: It's not trendy
...Moondance - Van Morrison (1970)
Every now and then, I get the need to dig out a long lost CD and listen to something that, despite it's greatness, has been collecting dust for years.
Ironically, this Van Morrison offering predates the CD by nearly two decades, but has stood the test of time and greatness.
Instrumentally, the album relies on just about every type of saxophone there is, flutes, keyboards, guitars, drums to produce a mellow but strangely catchy feel. Lyrically, every track is credited to the man himself.
One of my favourite tracks opens, "And It Stoned Me", followed by the title track itself. "Moondance" the track is a beautifully seductive track, telling a tale of love and seduction.
"Crazy Love" and its delightful chorus moves from seduction to worship in love and the lyric "she gives me some sweet...

Morrisons Supermarket : Not the best, but not the worst
Advantages: Convenient, some cheap prices, some fairly good food, good fish counter
Disadvantages: Some food past use-by date, a few of the staff off with the fairies
...My closest Morrisons is situated along London Road, Hadleigh, Essex, about halfway (on the north side of the road) between the old Waggon & Horses big roundabout, and Hadleigh Church.
It is, by modern-day standards, a medium-sized supermarket made of terracotta colour brickwork which from the outside looks clean, bright and very appealing (I'd hazard a guess that it was built sometime during the early to mid-1990s, judging by the architectural style).
Outside the front of the store there is a large car park which I believe is free to Morrisons' customers, a small taxi pickup point (though you have to phone for a taxi yourself as it isn't a rank), and a paved area where there are different sized trolleys, some with child seats on the front. To use a trolley, you have to put a £1 coin into that irritating little slot, then release...

A sunset over Avalon
Advantages: great listening
Disadvantages: none
...Van Morrison was born in 1945 George Ivan Morrison. In the early 60s he began his singing career. In 1966 he was the lead singer in a band called Them,
He left them after a couple of years and began his solo career as a singer songwriter. His music is a rock rhythm and blues some jazz, with Celtic influence.
Avalon sunset was produced in 1989 and the words of the songs show his religious beliefs. This music is restful and peaceful with its spiritual overtones a little melancholy.
I am an atheist, do not believe in god, however find this music good and listen to it occasionally.
In the first track Whenever god shines his light Van Morrison sings and is backed by sir Cliff Richards. Van has a growley, gravely voice and it contrasts with cliffs sweeter voice. This is an upbeat song with a gospel feel to it. I sit here listening to...

The hell of Morrisons
Advantages: Easy to get a job, anyone can work there.
Disadvantages: Anyone can work there, looks bad on CV after a while, management, pay, company policies.....
...Well, to start, I am currently an unwilling prisoner of a Morrisons store in the Salford area of Manchester. I took the job on out of desperation, and also because I wrongly thought that with my pretty decent academic, vocational and professional qualifications, something would turn up soon. I was wrong. To anyone thinking of getting a job there, for whatever reason, bear one thing in mind. Once the word Morrison's sullies your CV, no excuse will atone for it, and you will always be viewed as a knucklehead by any other potential employer.
Working at Morrisons is not a pleasant experience. There is always a mini crisis in progress, which is almost always down to understaffing or supply problems (the suppliers at Wakefield, being owned by Morrisons, are also horribly overworked). The management are generally arrogant, patronising...
