Harbourside Hotel in Vancouver
Advantages: 4 Star hotel in Downtown Vancouver
Disadvantages: Just a few extras to make the room better
...Located on the waterfront and within walking distance of the Cruise ships terminal, this 4 star hotel has 437 rooms and 7 suites and has a no smoking policy. It is part of the Marriott group.
Arriving by coach after a fabulous two days on The Rocky Mountaineer train, we entered the busy Renaissance hotel lobby and spied one of our cases, linked with others and all padlocked together. The bell boy was surprised when we asked about our other two cases, but we discovered that they had already been taken to our room and were assured the other would go immediately. True to their word it was safely in the room a few moments later as check in was very quick and efficient, just a switch of our credit card for incidentals and a look at our passports. The lobby was on two levels, but there was a lift down for disabled or if you were moving your...

Old Macdonald had a 5-star Hotel - eee ai eee ai oh
Advantages: It's spectacular and surprisingly quiet and the best location in the city
Disadvantages: Parking, high prices.
...As a student at Oxford University in the late 1980s, the Randolph seemed like the physical embodiment of the class divide that afflicted poor kids like me who came from state schools from the much wealthier students who took the affluence and grandeur of the city's finest hotel entirely in their stride. I'd never been in such a grand hotel and the closest thing to a grand building in my home city was the local branch of Lloyds Bank.
My flat mates' parents would arrive each term and take us out to the Randolph for rather staid Sunday lunches in the spectacular high ceilinged dining room where we'd sit and watch the world cycle by through the tall windows. By contrast my parents would visit bringing a bag full of fish and chips or a Chinese take-away. I can't really say that we enjoyed the Randolph that much more than a take...

Britain's Most Glamorous 5-Star Hotel!
Advantages: Super high-gloss telly drama, great cast, funny
Disadvantages: Nothing at all!
...In amongst the rubbish we have on our television screens these days, there comes every so often a gem, a shining light that tells us that this country is still able to make fantastic TV programmes which are quality, which make you want to watch them. In 2006, Hotel Babylon became one of these shows. It's high-gloss format with an attractive cast made it must-see television, and it became a hit. Now the first and second series are out on DVD so I'm working my way through them once more!
Hotel Babylon is actually based on a book by Imogen Edward-Jones and another anonymous author which was released in 2004. The BBC picked up the rights to turn it into a television show, and so 'Hotel Babylon' was born. Hotel Babylon shows us the lives and workings of a 5 star hotel in London, and its staff that work there. It's managed by Rebecca...

Great 5 star hotel
Advantages: Great service and cheap for a 5 star hotel
Disadvantages: May need to book a room in advance
...There are two sites to the Renaissance Hotel. There is the Renaissance Wing Deluxe and the New World Wing Superior. There is not much difference, Renaissance Wing Deluxe is a little more luxury, which each room will cost more. I stay at the New World Wing Superior. I paid RM 185 (approx £26) excluding service charge and 5% gov tax. Rates will changes depending on the month of the year (See below).
The hotel is based close to the city centre, were it is 10 minute walking distance to the Twin Tower and 20 minute walk to the a shopping area. There are taxis and buses if you don't feel like walking. But I recommend using the Monorail, which is close by.
The view is great, I was on the 17th floor and I had a brilliant view of the Twin Towers. I would think if you were at the Renaissance Wing Deluxe site, you would get the view of the KL...

5 star hotel, 4 star price tag - Maritim Hotel, Mauritius
Advantages: The service is exceptional
Disadvantages: May seem expensive to some people but worth saving for in my opinion
...~~Maritim Hotel, Mauritius~~
~Why this hotel:
In 2007 my partner and I were invited to our best friends wedding in Mauritius, it was something we definitely did not want to miss or something we did not date miss because my partner was the best man.
We did have the option to pick our own hotel but we decided the best choice would be for us to stay in the same all-inclusive hotel with our friends.
Our holiday was for the first 2 weeks in May with Hayes & Jarvis and it cost us £1,800 each for 2 weeks. You may think the cost was a little bit on the expensive side, but I hope my review will help to explain why.
I am not reviewing Mauritius itself - just the 4 star hotel.
~First impressions:
When we arrived at the airport we were greeted exceptionally well by the locals, the ladies received flowers and the men received a necklace...

Fabulous Vancouver!
Advantages: Great city, great food, good value for money once you're there
Disadvantages: Expensive to get to and long flight there
....
CHINATOWN
We both love Chinese food, and Vancouver is home to one of the largest Chinatowns anywhere, to serve the huge Chinese-Canadian community. I really enjoyed wanderering around this area, entering through the huge, ornate Chinese gate. The area seemed to be more shopping than restaurants, with lots of clothes and gift shops and relatively few bars and restaurants (enough, but not as many as I would normally expect). What was most prevalent was the fresh food shops, which had Chinese ingredients the likes of which I have never seen before. Out in front of the shops, huge boxes of 4 or 5 varieties of dried shrimp, dried fish, fruit and vegetables such as dried mushrooms were laid out. I was hugely impressed by this and would have loved to have cooked with some of these promising looking ingredients. We ate a couple of times here, once...

A 5 Star Hotel for a 5 Star Anniversary
Advantages: Unbelievably luxurious
Disadvantages: Probably won't be able to tolerate a 2 star hotel again
...Niro and with a Michelin-starred chef, guarantees a pricey meal however so Mrs L and I skipped it.
Conclusion
Mrs L had always wanted to stay in a 5* hotel and even with Airmiles the Ritz was well out of my price range. That said, we had a great stay, loved every minute of our A-list lifestyle and have taken a whole load of fond memories away from the experience.
We would both love to do it all over again and would strongly recommend the Metropolitan for anyone looking for stylish, five star luxury and top class service. I am already saving for our 20th anniversary!

A Luxurious Stay In Vancouver
Advantages: great work-out space, accommodating staff, spacious rooms
Disadvantages: room service choices too limited
...The Metropolitan, located on Howe St., very central in Vancouver's bustling West End, is a wonderful place to stay when traveling on business or pleasure.
ROOMS: Guest rooms are spacious and gracious--linens and matresses are top-notch, creating an extremely comfortable sleep environment. Bathrooms are large and well-appointed with marble counter-tops and wonderfully aromatic soaps and shampoos. (They weren't so good that I wanted to steal extras, though!)
EXERCISE FACILITIES: The spa/swimming pool/workout room are combined in an open, inviting environment. Huge windows open onto Vancouver's downtown core, inviting the sun to shine or the rain clouds to loom, as Vancouver weather tends to change dramatically from one minute to the next. Although they don't have an elliptical machine, they have bicycles, Stair...

Deluxe 5 star hotel, one of the best on the island of Cyprus
Advantages: Luxury rooms, great choice of food, friendly, efficient service, leisure facilities, location
Disadvantages: Expensive but typical of a 5 star luxury hotel
...like royalty, and one of the few 5 star hotels on the island who welcome and cater for families.
The hotel is open to the public and some of it's restaurants are too (Chinese, Seafood & Fish, gourmet Greek) and these can get booked up so its worth booking in advance. The same goes for the spa, hairdressers etc - if you are planning on a relaxing day of thalasotherapy check availability early on in your holiday. During peak season some of the kids clubs can get full so again its advisable to check and plan ahead where possible.
If you need information on local excursions, car hire, places to see, speak to guest relations or reception, they have lots of information and directions to various places and also offer a range of excursions or car hire.
This isn't the place to go if you are looking for a cheap holiday, it's a luxury...
