...My friend Alison works for the company which I left almost exactly a year ago. In the time since I joined my new company we've tried and failed to get together many times, only clocking up two nights out so we were well overdue for a catch up. Since she works close to Manchester airport and I was flying in at a respectable time for a change, I headed straight round to see her when I landed. We'd had an exchange of text messages over the previous couple of days to see if we could agree a place to have dinner. She won last time and we had eaten in a really awful Turkish restaurant in Wilmslow, so this time I got the right to push my choice on her. I fancied Thai ? but then I generally do ? and she tracked down the almost unpronounceable Mae Gaew in Knutsford. Knutsford is a good choice for dinner if you haven't thought to book ahead...

After watching High School Musical I decided to buy Vanessa's debut album. She has been compared to other artists such as Hilary Duff, but to be honest I think she is much better and is much more diverse. I did however forget about her, but was searching online for cds and came accross this one of hers and bought it instantly, and it reminded me of why I liked her so much. Such tallent! Red Hot (Symphonic Mix) This starts off with some medium speed voilin, the energy is building up throughout the track and then more instruments are introduced half way through and then the energy builds up to include an orchestra of instruments. Rarely have I heard such an ability to combine good music, with modern music. I felt enriched having listened to the lyrics, and was amazed by the piano - which at the time, I assumed to be synthesised or played by a pianist. It was not until I found out that Vanessa Carlton wrote, sang and performed all the lyrics and music, that I fell totally in love with the music. If I could recommend an album to anyone this year, this would be it.
