...It?s only an op about a tent??honestly! Who?s that fella Vango anyway????.?! I consider myself a hardened camper. My experiences range from a bivvy bag above the Boulder Ruckle in Swanage, to a budget Millets 2-pole tent on the Orkneys, from family holidays in Harlech under a vast canvas and steel construction to New Years Eve in a Vango Force Ten Mk5 in Langdale, as well as several seasons in the Swiss Alps, plus many, many other trips. I have camped in rain, wind, sleet, snow, sun and thunderstorms. I have pitched a tent halfway up a mountain, in tropical jungle, in a lay-by and on the beach. I have had my tents blown away, been soaked to the skin, eaten by midges, infested by ants (and once a hedgehog) and still come back for more. Right, we thought, it?s time to introduce the children to this fabulous pastime...

Vango Hurricane

Advantages: A great robust and easy to use tent
Disadvantages: Ground sheet could be thicker

...This really is the ultimate tent if there is ever to be one. It is incredibly quick and easy to put up. The fly sheet first design allows you to put up your tent in bad weather with out getting the insides wet unlike the Hurricanes other competitors. Once up the tent is incredibly spacious with ample storage space, it even has a small net shelf at the top of it. The porches at each end also provide ample storage space for any gear and also allow you plenty of space to cook in if it really is bad weather. All in all this is a great tent that I would recommend to anyone whether you are a weekend camper or a serious hiker it will serve all your needs and its a much better price than any of its a rival!!...

Review of Vango Hurricane 200 Dome Tent

A bulky tent..perfect for camping when you have a car

Advantages: Cheap, good value for money, very waterproof and durable
Disadvantages: Heavy, bulky, quite small for two people

...I have this tent and I from ym own opinion I think that it is fantastic! Although when I initially bought it I thought that it would be a faff to put up because it would quite bulky The weight that it states on the packaging is about 4.3 kg which is a reasonable weight for such a cheap tent. I have never had to hike with it, but if you are walking with a small rucksack and the tent the load will not be too heavy, but it can seriously weigh down your rucksack. As well as being quite heavy it is quite bulky for the actual size of the tent (from experiences) I found it an absolute doodle to put up, three poles in the pins and it's up Also the really good thing is, is that you put the fly sheet up first so you can out your kit under it when it is raining. It has a reasonable sized porch which is big enough for my 65l rucksack...

Review of Vango Delta 200 Dome Tent

You can go with this Vango

Advantages: plenty of room, long lasting, easy to erect, ideal for backpacking
Disadvantages: weight

...I have had this tent since 2003; it has just started to leak in 2007 from the ground sheet. It is easy and quick to erect and is less effort than most new tents on the market. I used this tent to backpack around Britain it has done the Pennine Way, Coast to Coast, Peddars Way, Cumbrian Way, West Highland Way, and Norfolk coastal walk. I also have used it in deep snow, up mountains in the wild and on a weekly basis in my work. It is an excellent tent highly recommended above most modern ones of this price range. I loved this tent, for when there are 2 people; you both have your own door and your own storage for boots and such outside the flysheet but inside the outer shell. This also gives you options for cooking too. There are 4 generous sized mesh pockets for torches and things you may need to store, two-way zips for ventilation...

Vango Venture 500

Advantages: Good Size, Brilliant Value, High Quality, Sturdy, Easy to Erect
Disadvantages: None that I can think of!

...I purchased my Vango Venture 500 towards the end of 2006. For the bargain price of £85.00 and I haven't looked back since! Numourus camping trips have bee happily spent in this tent and it will see many more! The frame consists of 2 large poles crossing over to make the main dome, and a 3rd smaller pole creating a loop for the porch area. Once erect, with all pegs and guide ropes in place the tent is extremely strong and stable. We have camped in strong winds and strong rain and it has stood strong throughout. As long as there are two of you, erecting the tent is a swift and easy process. Funnily enough you tend to erect it faster when its raining! And packing it back into the bag is an art the first time but you tend to remember how to do it from then onwards and it's easy enough. When packaged, the tent is relatively heavy...

Hardest Erection Ive ever Had !!

Advantages: Compact/ Lightweight/ Portable/ Smart/ Spacey for a 4 berth
Disadvantages: Erection time!/ Instructions/ Not suitable for young children

...My family had a weekend camping in Skegness two weekends back. Luckily enough, the week before I had recieved a free tent from my company so it saved me a few bob. The tent in question was this one. A Vango Alpha 400 4 berth dome tent. I am a very occasional camper, in fact I havn't been for over ten years and I found tents had changed a whole lot in that prevailing time. The tent comes in a lightweight holdall. Very compact and easy to carry around. It took up hardly any space in our Citroen Picasso boot at all. We arrived at the campsite in Ingoldmells just outside Skegness and placed ourselves in our desired location. Two of my sisters were also there with their families and we all proceeded to pitch the tents. Review of Vango Alpha 400 Dome Tent

Robust, spacious 6 berth tent

Advantages: very spacious, steel frame
Disadvantages: large pack, heavy

...Nice, robust, tent. Apparently some sellers discontinued it as there were concerns over it leaking, but we've had a couple of very rainy nights in ours and no problems. Durability - some of the hooks/clips that attach the bedroom pods to the tent have come off (due to children jumping around) but can be sewn back on. It comes with a DVD showing you how to put it up - you can do it without watching it but there are some handy tips so it's worth a watch. We only got round to watching it after 2 camping trips, but found it cut pitching time by 10 mins or so - it now takes us around 45 mins to pitch. Loads of room - spacious bedrooms (easily sleeps 6), large living area. Great for families as there's space for cooking, playing, etc. Good layout, with the bedroom/living room dividing line going along the lenght of the tent rather...

My Tent with Rooms

Advantages: Breathable fabric keeps cool in the heat and warm when it is cooler
Disadvantages: It is quite weighty and quite expensive

While the trip and the islands themselves were fantastic, my cheap tent certainly was not. I had the bug though, and despite working in the hotel game, I found a real buzz from being able to book a week?s holiday for the princely sum of £6 to £8 a night. On return to the mainland, and armed with a £200 donation from my father in law, we set about searching for a tent. We quickly stumbled upon the Outwell Classic range of tents, as the local Yeomans camping store in my village has a vast display. I also have to admit I was somewhat seducted by the names of their tents, Bear Lake, Wolf Lake, Indian Lake, Norfolk Lake, Trout Lake ? all conjuring up images of camping in the Canadian wilderness with only a fishing rod...

Review of Outwell Bear Lake Tunnel Tent

The ups and downs of a family tent.

Advantages: Lots of space for everyone.
Disadvantages: No longer made.

...The Khyam Michigan 12 was only made in 2007 so can be hard to come by now. But if you are after a large, well set out tent, and you find one of these then grab it whilst you can. The tent is an outer pitch first, or all in one. Personally we leave the inners in place which reduces the pitching time. The tent itself is large and can be difficult and heavy to put up. Saying that I am under 5ft and have limited mobility so if me and hubby can put it up between us then I'm sure others could easily. We have reduced the pitching time to around 30 - 45 minutes now, which is not bad considering. One good thing though, is that although the tent is large it still fits on most pitches so no extra charges. The tent has 3 inners. All or some can be removed if wanted. The largest is 6 berth. This is used by our 4 children and is just big enough...

The Red Tent is... red, and a tent!

Advantages: A fantastic story
Disadvantages: Quite female focused, not really a bloke book.

...When (if) you read the bible, you often come across characters that pop up only once, and are in the spotlight for a moment, and then disappear again... but you suspect they have more story to tell than is recorded. For example, the story of Joseph (and his 'technicolour' coat) is famous, but what do you know about his only sister? Nothing? Yeah me too! Until I read this fantastic book. Anita Diamant takes the story of Dinah, mentioned only in passing in the bible, and develops it. The result is largely an imaginative work of fiction, however, it is deeply rooted in information from other sources. For example, Joseph's time in Egypt is included, and other stories about Jacob, such as his difficult relationship with his brother Esau. The Red Tent is therefore deeply plausible as a narrative. There are no details that jar, or suspend...
