When Creole R&B meets Cajun, we end up with zydeco, still hanging around the accordion, but more likely to be heartily amplified, booted up by strong funk rhythms and makeshift rub boards scraped hard by thimbled fingers. This set acts as a thorough introduction, nodding to old time greats like Clifton Chenier, Queen Ida and the unstoppably trundling Boozoo Chavis, but also featuring hot young players like Geno Delafose and Chris Ardoin, both doing much to keep the scene vibrant. The accumulated weight of these cuts threatens to splinter the boards of the dance floor, but they have also been chosen for their hookline melodies. Rosie Ledet squeals with delight as her saxophonist purrs behind her on "You're No Good for Me", the gravel-voiced Beau Jocque trills out repeated accordion runs on "What You Gonna Do?", while Nathan & The Zydeco Cha-Chas opt for the slow-building soulful intensity of "I'm In Love". Ardoin's Double Clutchin' combo round things up with an infectious re-reading of the old ska gem "Pass The Dutchie", a number that rings pleasantly in the ears for some time afterwards. --Martin Longley

Advantages: Great value for money; some classic songs, both old and new Disadvantages: Not all songs are within the 'r&b' genre, in my opinion
...'t heard of every song listed, but I was willing to listen to the tracks which I didn't already know.
R&B Clubland, by various artists, is a 3-disc compilation. I bought it from Amazon for £11.93. For 60 tracks (20 per disc), I thought this was great value for money. The discs are packaged individually, with each disc in its own plastic case. The three cases are packaged together in a cardboard...
Advantages: A really good mix, well balanced tracks & all good hits Disadvantages: None for me
...I think I must have woke the neighbours with joy!
Hopefully they were dancing around the house enjoying themselves as much as I was!
If you prefer your R&B songs a little dancier than hits such as Heartbroken (T2), Hot in Here (Nelly) and Be Faithfull (Fat Man Scoop).
Thankfully the album also had some fantastic hits from the 90s with some of my personal favourites including the fantastic...
Advantages: Songs for all moods, happy, sad, angry etc. Disadvantages: A couple of dud songs on there to watch out for
...on the album involving rap is Pump It (by the Black Eyed Peas). I don't think that this was one of their better hits and would recommend possibly skipping this repetitive song if you are playing through the album from start to finish.
The next track by Christina Milian, "Say I", is another song by a powerful R&B singer and is sure to be a hit with the ladies.
I had not really heard about John Legend...
