I bought this car last October, on a 58 plate, and Overall I have been very pleased with it. I was astonished at how fast it was, and loved the sport button for the extra power, at the push of a button.
For such a powerful car, the fuel economy is really good, and I regularly achieve 45-50 miles to the gallon.

...I had a couple of these as hire cars, covering about 15000 miles over 6 months. They were pre-facelift models (04 and 54 reg). If I was in the market to buy a car in this class. this would be a sure contender.
The SRi badge is probably pushing things a little. I always associated SRi's with BIG engines, and certainly not diesels! However, while the diesel (150ps) does a good job, I have to say...

...the new Astra Diesel gave me an opportunity to assess the latest model. It was a 1.9 turbo diesel hatchback with a six speed gearbox, from the outside the paintwork finish was excellent & all the gaps around the doors & body panels were consistent & narrow.
One you jump inside the quality theme continues, the upper dash & upper door trims were finished off in a quality rubbery plastic finish often...
