Vauxhall's Lucky Dip Gearbox As Standard.
Review of Vauxhall Corsa Design 1.2i 16v 5dr by
Pipco
Advantages: Nippy acceleration, looks
Disadvantages: Sloppy gear change, poor handling and fuel consumption, too common
...will go where and when you want it to. Despite my initial belief that the firm ride on the Corsa was to provide better handling I was soon to discover that the car was twitchy under braking and accelerating and wobbles quite a bit on corners and small roundabouts.
The engine is very good for nipping in and out of traffic but on B roads and Motorways you are forever looking for the next gear up as it seems to be working its socks off. Now I know this is because it has a small engine, but I've driven 1 litre engine cars (2 Hyundai Amicas) that sound less like they're going to blow up. At 70 on the motorway, in fifth gear (top), the engine revs at about 4,000 rpm, which is noisy and inefficient.
The stereo on the car cannot cope with the road noise and constantly skips when going over bumps. The gearbox has this mushy no-mans land when you...

* Vauxhall Brava Boob job .
Review of Vauxhall Brava 4 x 2 Doublecab by
smudgeybabes
Advantages: Cheap, decent site pickup.
Disadvantages: No longer made.
...If you type BRAVA into Google, you will come up with quite a few sites referring to breast enhancement before you find vehicles! I wonder if Vauxhall tried this before the naming ceremony?
Vauxhall Brava - Oh, just a couple of small points, Oops! another boob, Sorry. Made me titter, Oops, sorry again!
Seriously, I just mean that this is not actually a Vauxhall at all, it is a joint venture, with Isuzu providing the vehicle, and Vauxhall providing the badges for the UK versions.I will explain that this is also sold in Austrailia and many other parts of the world.
Production of these vehicles ended In March 2002.
Vauxhall - The Vauxhall company celebrated its Centenary in 2003. They have been making cars and vans for a considerable amount of time, and have also gained a vast amount of experience of commercial vehicles, more...

Vauxhall Astra 1.4 HI TORQ - True All Purpose Car
Review of Vauxhall Astra LS 1.4i hatchback by
MR2MK1CCW
Advantages: Cheap, Very Reliable, Carry Large Loads, Safety
Disadvantages: Fuel Economy is Poor while the HI TORQ claim is false advertising, Security
...Vauxhall for making such a ludicrous claim. The car is sluggish especially after 50 mph although it does accelerate well from standing to 30 mph. Acceleration is non-exsistant in 5th gear when on the motorway at 70 and if you come across a driver going at 60 mph whom forces you to slow down then you will have to drop into 4th gear to get back up to 70mph to overtake. Do not expect much over 80mph in this car but even then anything over 70mph is a strain.
Fuel economy is bad for the power you get with the car returning 34 mpg in everyday driving and about 44mpg on the motorway. This is its major fault especially considering I dont drive I cruise along. I dread to think what fuel figures this car would return if you really hammered it about.
The gearbox is strong but extremely clunky especially going into reverse gear.
HANDLING

More Va Va Voom from a Vauxhall (Renault)
Review of Vauxhall Movano Chassis Cab by
01709andy14
Advantages: nice ride and good interior build quality
Disadvantages: high repair cost and low service interviles
...Please don't read this review and take it the wrong way, it may sound like I am having a moan about this vehicle but in fact I am very happy with it and would recommend to anyone.
For those of you that are not very up on commercial vehicles this cab says vauxhall in a few places and you could take it to vauxhall for service but that is where the link with vauxhall ends.
Designed and built by Renualt it is French through and through. Oh no I here you say, the gearbox is going to spend more time on the bench than on the van and the doors are going to fall off.
Well I can say that the 100k I have done in this {plus the 100k on the clock when I bought this vehicle} have been far from trouble free. You may say that buying a vehicle with 100k on I should expect break downs, but it was a calculated risk as being only two years old...

The Corsa Club - A Missed Opportunity by Vauxhall.
Review of Vauxhall Corsa Club 1.2i by
tel1
Advantages: Economy, Cheap Spares / Servicing, Compact
Disadvantages: Lack of Space, Strange Power Steering, Heavy Accelerator, Sloggy Engine
...The first Corsa I ever drove was an Opel (I don't think there was a British version then) in Gran Canaria in 1991. Nine years later, I was looking for a small, economical runabout and remembered the Corsa. I test drove a Vauxhall Club and discovered a few built-in problems but decided I could live with these and bought a new 1.2 in metallic silver.
I still have that car and so this is a long-term, five year test of the small Corsa (as opposed to the bigger version marketed a little later).
I'll start with a brief overview of this 'compact'. At first glance it appears to be a small, light, nippy car, which is what it should be. However, this view is somewhat dispelled when you start driving the Club. Unexpectedly, the power-steering is heavy at low speeds and the accelerator is heavy all the time. The engine characteristics...

Owning a Vauxhall Vectra,
Review of Vauxhall Vectra GLS 2.0 by
dennyjames
Advantages: Safe, comfortable large family car. Quite economical.
Disadvantages: Gearboxes can suffer on earlier models.
...I have had 3 Vectras in my time, two 1.8LS models & a 2.0GLS. All are fantastic cars in my opinion. They make great family cars because of the roomy interior and on post 96 models, having 3 proper seat belts in the back instead of the usual useless lap strap in the middle. They are also very economical for the size of car & engine. There are 3 varients, hatchback, saloon & estate. I have only owned the hatchback models as these have been best for me.
The only bad point about them is the gearbox! If you are unlucky, the final drive can fail as this unit cannot take the torque produced from the engine. So if buying a used Vectra, have a good test drive & listen carefully to the gearbox.
I recommend the 1.8LS for best economy and the 2.0GLS for comfort. You can expect 30-34 MPG urban driving & 45+MPG on a motorway run from the 1.8 ecotec...

Vauxhall Vectra Elite 2.0DTi 16v Estate
Review of Vauxhall Vectra Elite 2.0i 16v Turbo 5dr by
aldonald
Advantages: Spacious, comfortable, well equipped and economical.
Disadvantages: Sounds like a diesel, accelerates like a diesel!
...I recently decided to change my car and started to look for something suitable. I had already decided on an estate car to cope with the dog and I wanted to swap to diesel to reduce the fuel bill; however, that's as far as I had got.
Now there are loads of decent diesel estate cars out there, so whats the best way to choose one? My advice is to follow the basic steps of, listing the contenders, going to a car supermarket to test drive as many as possible and then searching for the right car. Anyway, I test drove the Renault Laguna, Ford Mondeo, MG ZTT, Honda Accord, Peugeot 307 and the Vauxhall Vectra.
They all had good and bad points but I chose the Vectra as the one that suited me best. Because I like all the toys, I wanted the top of the range Elite and although they are not too common, I searched the Internet and found...

Vauxhall Astra SRi 1.8 hatchback 2002
Review of Vauxhall Astra SRi 1.8 hatchback by
neildemmert
Advantages: Affordable, good alrounder
Disadvantages: Cambelt change every 40000 miles (expensive)
...Revised, edition.
Intro
A solid, reliable, practical car all round I must say! The performance is good and the suspension serves the car well, it is light and very easy to drive, with good steering and a good ride, maybe a little firm for some. The SRI is a little more expensive than the base models but for that you get a larger engine and considerably higher spec, more gadgets.
Engine and Drivetrain
The 1.8l 16-valve ecotec engine has a very smooth and responsive power delivery. It can be a little thirsty if you ring it’s neck The gearbox has an average set of ratios, first is a bit too short, basically you have to change into second a little sooner than you would want to, and a sixth gear or a longer fifth would not go amiss. Gear selection can be a little stiff on cold mornings but that is fairly commonplace with any car...

Signum - an odd kind of car
Review of Vauxhall Signum 3.0CDTi V6 24v Design 5dr by
RICHADA
Advantages: Superb 3.0 litre diesel engine, fuel economy, performance
Disadvantages: Massive depreciation, cheap enterior, poor visibility
...novelty value.
Fortunately, this year, they had a V6 CDTi available, albeit with an automatic gearbox. This was the "Design" model which had an unfortunately cheap looking interior. All Signums now come as standard with satellite navigation system and blacked out rear windows but the trim levels stay the same. The ambience of the two Elite models driven last year certainly makes an overwhelming difference to the interior of this car.
The cynic inside me tells me that Vauxhall have had to throw expensive items like sat-nav at this car in order to get them through the showroom doors, it has been on the market for two years now and you still see remarkably few of them out on the road.
However, and it's a big one - this brand new 3.0 litre - common rail (that is the diesel fuel injection system) 6 cylinder engine is superb! Whilst I would...

The Vectra That Thinks It's An Omega.
Review of Vauxhall Vectra SXi 2.2i New 2002 Model 5 Door Hatchback by
RayMan_UK
Advantages: Superb Ride, Responsive Powerful Engine, ABS, Power Steering, Added Safety Features, Security Alarm, Plus More.
Disadvantages: New Technology Causes Some Awkwardness.
...or heavy loads, around 203Nm (150lb.ft.) @ 4000rpm torque, maximum power of 147PS (108kW) @ 5600rpm. (Quoted figures from Vauxhall’s website). I decided the new model had to have this engine in it.
When I first clapped eyes on the new shape (5 door hatchback / 4 door saloon), both looked strange, to say the least. I was used to the older sleeker lined Vectra. The hatchback being more practical in all respects, easy access for passengers or handling awkward loads, it had to be the hatchback. Anyway, the saloon looks very plain from the side view to me.
Of the three cheaper hatchback models, LS, Club or SXi. Only the LS or SXi had the option for a 2.2i engine. The cost of these two with a manual gearbox (preferred), was about the same. The SXi has better specification in appearance as well as features, such as: 9 spoke 6½J x 16" alloy wheels...
