Motoring, with sporting accent (part two)
Review of Vauxhall Vectra SRi 3.0CDTi V6 24v by
MJKerr
Advantages: Sporty feel, improvement over others in range
Disadvantages: Minor technical faults (trim, electrical), fuel economy, company car tax band
...2005 Vectra 3.0 V6 CDTI SRi
The SRi is a more defined car, than the "normal" range cars.
This is helped by "uprated" suspension and wider track tyres.
Interior features are slightly similar to the standard range, but enhanced by improved trim
Performance is near to that of the older 2.5 V6 GSi, but with vastly improved fuel economy
The vehicle is a compromise between the 1.9 CDTI SRi (which will return a better fuel economy) and the 3.0 V6 CDTI Elite
Fuel consumption averages 30mpg.
Insurance is reasonable for the performance
Due to the high company car tax band and the poor fuel economy (compared to the 1.9 CDTI version) haggle hard for a discount
I bought my 16 month old, 10000 mile example for £10800 on a window price of £11995
When bought from a Vauxhall dealership, a 12 month unlimited mileage warranty is included and can...

Vectra SRi 1.9CDTi
Review of Vauxhall Vectra SRi 1.9CDTi by
cpennington
Advantages: Great drive
Disadvantages: Economy suffers when driven hard.
...I had a couple of these as hire cars, covering about 15000 miles over 6 months. They were pre-facelift models (04 and 54 reg). If I was in the market to buy a car in this class. this would be a sure contender.
The SRi badge is probably pushing things a little. I always associated SRi's with BIG engines, and certainly not diesels! However, while the diesel (150ps) does a good job, I have to say the handling is the thing that justifies that Sri badge. The car feels really safe cornering and in general driving situations.
While the Vectra has yet to reach the NCAP safety ratings of 5* acheived by manufacturers such as Renault, I would suggest that improved handling offered by a Vectra over a competetive model would actually reduce your need for this higher rating. I always felt that I could fully trust the brakes on the Sri, which I...

Vectra 1.8 club (2004)
Review of Vauxhall Vectra Club 1.8i hatchback by
simon5800
Advantages: fast, comfortable, reliable
Disadvantages: hard to park
...more mpg then go for the 1.9cdti and you shouldnt be disapointed.
The car certintley doesnt deserve the company car stick it usualy gets or the bashing from top gear!! things have come along well, and if you get a 'facelift' version from the end of 2005/06 then handling will be improved further, however some of the features of the car are lost around this time, e.g rear vents.
All in all i think its a great car and wont be changing for a while and think ill be getting another vectra....

More than just a car
Review of Vauxhall Vectra Design 1.8i 16v by
emilne82
Advantages: Looks, handling and the toys....
Disadvantages: Takes too long to polish!
...cabin there is cupholders under the rear seats. Under the front arm rest is two storage areas, this is where my wife keeps her handbag. The glove compartment is also cooled. Ideal for keeping your sandwichs and can of coke cool on long drives! (Not that anybody is allowed to eat inside my car)
Engine
If I had the choice I would proberly go for a bigger petrol engine or possibly a diesel. The 1.8 engine is fine on long motorway journeys once it is upto speed, but it does labour a bit getting upto speed. I really notice the low mpg while town driving, the vectra is a very heavy car and the 1800cc engine is just not strong enough to give a good millage. Speaking to other vectra owners the 1.9CDTI engine gives a bit more power and torque than the 1.8petrol. The diesel also has the advantage of better fuel economy with many owners reporting 40...

The Rep Mobile
Review of Vauxhall Vectra LS 1.8i hatchback by
steveymacca
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...I say the rep mobile because this particular model is the most popular car - from the Vectra range - that the Reps - and Business users have - the lease holders etc - Probably because it is safe - inexpensive - relatively - and has enough power - that makes the car - 'not sluggish'.
The Range has had a recent faclift and Update in general - making a once dull to look at car - a bit more accepable - Fresh looks and Styles - The newer Vectras are also Very cheap and very much better than the old version. Vauxhall's Flag ship vehicle is no class leader - but the newe model arriving in 2001 looks very much more promising.
The 1.8 is a BETTER car than the majority of Vectras...

Is the Vectra now a serious threat
Review of Vauxhall Vectra SRi 2.6i hatchback by
mematedave
Advantages: Great desirability
Disadvantages: Poor fuel consumption
...In its early days not even theives and joyriders would be willing to drive a Vectra. The looks were to put it nicely bland and unappealing even to the company reps who get given them for nothing this car was a bit of an embarassment.
However things have come along way since 1996 when the Vectra was first introduced. The sporty versions sucxh as the acclaimed SRi and the GSi are taking the humble saloon to new levels of ride quality and performance. The engines are extremley responsive, the 2.5 litre V6 is perhaps the best around, despite it being extremlet thirsty around town.
The car looks as you would expect, mean and unforgiving. The interior is also pleasing to the eye and retains Vauxhalls reputation for durability and functionality.
Overall a very nice car, but at a high price....

Not as fast as the Cavalier
Review of Vauxhall Vectra SRi 2.6i hatchback by
Stephen140870
Advantages: Nice looking car
Disadvantages: Not fast enough from a standing start
...I have just taken this model of Vectra on a test drive when at an open day for vauxhals, I accidently got lost so I could see what the car would preform like and to be honest it was not nearly as quick off the mark as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong it is not a slow car but for years I had a Cavalier SRi and if I had the choice I would go back to that rather than I a new Vectra.
Vectra's still need new tyres every 10-12,000 miles and for somebody who puts in a few miles a week it can work out dear.
Over all it is not a bad car but I still think that there could be a few more improvements made....

The Good and Bad points of a Vectra
Review of Vauxhall Vectra LS 1.8i hatchback by
robhartley
Advantages: Three different models, not bad insurance, good engine, runs for ever
Disadvantages: Dealer prices and servicing, could have better specification.
...The first question you have to ask your self is why to I want a Vectra? For me it is the fact that I like Vauxhall's, by before this car I had a Cavalier for over eight years with no problems at all and over 150,000 miles on the clock. So when we changed the car I wanted another Vauxhall. We only wanted the same size engine but all the other little things that you get used to, like electric windows (only the front) and a sunroof.
The engine is strong and revs well, the only thing you have to remember is that as a 16v the power and torque bands are high in the range compared to a 8v. So far since we have had the car the only problems we have had is the airbag light come on. This has been fixed but cost a bit. If you are buying one more that a year or two old it is best to get it serviced somewhere other that a Vauxhall dealer...

OK, I guess.
Review of Vauxhall Vectra LS 1.6i hatchback by
steveymacca
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...The 1.6i 16 v ls model may well be the bottom of the range Vectra - but it does have Air Con - a must have for those hot Winter and Summer and Spring days. I think that this car is OK, but is Underpowered - get a 2.0 litre + if you want performance - but this is a good Family car.
When Vauxhall Unveiled it's vectra back when N reg cars were around - about 1994 - the public were not amazed by it's design - it was dull, uninspiring - and Did resemble the highly popular Cavalier - but carried a different name - the public didn't like this. The Range has had a recent facliftn and Update in general - making a once dull to look at car - a bit more accepable - Fresh looks and Styles - The newer Vectras are also Very cheap and very much better than the old version. Vauxhall's Flag ship vehicle is no class leader - but the newe model arriving...
