...I had a couple of these as hire cars, covering about 15000 miles over 6 months. They were pre-facelift models (04 and 54 reg). If I was in the market to buy a car in this class. this would be a sure contender. The SRi badge is probably pushing things a little. I always associated SRi's with BIG engines, and certainly not diesels! However, while the diesel (150ps) does a good job, I have to say the handling is the thing that justifies that Sri badge. The car feels really safe cornering and in general driving situations. While the Vectra has yet to reach the NCAP safety ratings of 5* acheived by manufacturers such as Renault, I would suggest that improved handling offered by a Vectra over a competetive model would actually reduce your need for this higher rating. ...of power however if you need more mpg then go for the 1.9cdti and you shouldnt be disapointed. The car certintley doesnt deserve the company car stick it usualy gets or the bashing from top gear!! things have come along well, and if you get a 'facelift' version from the end of 2005/06 then handling will be improved further, however some of the features of the car are lost around this time, e.g rear vents. All in all i think its a great car and wont be changing for a while and think ill be getting another vectra.... Read review

Advantages: Looks, handling and the toys....
Disadvantages: Takes too long to polish!

.... Inside the main cabin there is cupholders under the rear seats. Under the front arm rest is two storage areas, this is where my wife keeps her handbag. The glove compartment is also cooled. Ideal for keeping your sandwichs and can of coke cool on long drives! (Not that anybody is allowed to eat inside my car) Engine If I had the choice I would proberly go for a bigger petrol engine or possibly a diesel. The 1.8 engine is fine on long motorway journeys once it is upto speed, but it does labour a bit getting upto speed. I really notice the low mpg while town driving, the vectra is a very heavy car and the 1800cc engine is just not strong enough to give a good millage. ...Having owned our Vectra Sri for some 2 years now I have to say first and foremost it's been unusual. This is due to the quality of this car when most of my experience with Vauxhall have been costly. The 2.6 V6 SRi is without doubt one of Vauxhalls finest cars, in my opinion. From the outside theres little to give away the potential of the car to the casual motorist. Sure theres the body coloured mouldings and bumpers, 16" twin spoke alloys, slightly lower stance, a square rear Irmscher tailpipe and a tiny badge on the side and rear but all these are normally overlooked. Fantastic! Who wants to scream out to the "modified" brigade and attract unwanted prying eyes? NOT ME! Out on the road the Vectra is a great car. ...I have recently purchased the Vauxhall Vectra Arctic 2.0 Diesel, 1998 (Second-Hand). To say the car is nearly ten, the wear and tear is in reasonable condition, and the handling of the vehicle is superb, I had the opportunity to test drive this vehicle (Petrol Version) when it was launched, but it did not meet expectations, it was tight to handle round corners, and the fuel consumption was high, and it just felt scruffy and clingy. So I scrapped the idea of getting one and went to fords instead. However I was given the opportunity to buy one of these cars second-hand, and I have to say the feel of the diesel is brilliant, although, not so good for the environment, the Vauxhall can do the distance on a low budget. ...Previously owned a Ford Escort 1.6 16v EFI estate and I must say my first impressions of this car are that it is fantastic compared. We went to a car supermarket and saw this Vauxhall Vectra on a 51 plate (looks like a club rather than LS) with 15k on clock with a price tag of £4000. The car is a nice metallic burgundy in perfect condition with new tyres all around. Being a car supermarket you cannot haggle on price so I got them to double check the mileage as it is a 4 year old car. The mileage was correct so we snapped it up considering all my other cars were bought with 60,000+ miles on them. The car itself has a 1.8i 16v ecotek engine with apparently 122bhp. ...engine and not a lot less from the more powerful 2 Litre. Insurance is reasonable for the 1.8 litre models but the 2 Litre models are a bit costly as they are rated at insurance group 12. All Vectras offer a nice smooth drive, quiet engine and stress free motorway driving. When looking for a large family saloon/hatchback car, you should put a Vectra on your shortlist for sure. ...I recently decided to change my car and started to look for something suitable. I had already decided on an estate car to cope with the dog and I wanted to swap to diesel to reduce the fuel bill; however, that's as far as I had got. Now there are loads of decent diesel estate cars out there, so whats the best way to choose one? My advice is to follow the basic steps of, listing the contenders, going to a car supermarket to test drive as many as possible and then searching for the right car. Anyway, I test drove the Renault Laguna, Ford Mondeo, MG ZTT, Honda Accord, Peugeot 307 and the Vauxhall Vectra. ...The introduction of the new 2.2 16v Eco-tech engine amongst the current line up of 6 engines; ranging from 1.6 to 2.5 V6 with two diesel power plants thrown in between, gave customers a successful comprimise between the not-so-nippy 2.0l and the fuel guzzling 2.5l V6 engine. The 2.2l 4 cylinder engine gave real flexibilitly in terms of driveability. With dollops of low end torque, and with strong useable power right up to the redline, together with the potential of achieving mpg figures of mid 30's overall, customers would have had to have been given poor advice from their dealer to opt for either of the other two engines mentioned here.
