Owning a Vauxhall Vectra,
Review of Vauxhall Vectra GLS 2.0 by
dennyjames
Advantages: Safe, comfortable large family car. Quite economical.
Disadvantages: Gearboxes can suffer on earlier models.
...I have had 3 Vectras in my time, two 1.8LS models & a 2.0GLS. All are fantastic cars in my opinion. They make great family cars because of the roomy interior and on post 96 models, having 3 proper seat belts in the back instead of the usual useless lap strap in the middle. They are also very economical for the size of car & engine. There are 3 varients, hatchback, saloon & estate. I have only owned the hatchback models as these have been best for me.
The only bad point about them is the gearbox! If you are unlucky, the final drive can fail as this unit cannot take the torque produced from the engine. So if buying a used Vectra, have a good test drive & listen carefully to the gearbox.
I recommend the 1.8LS for best economy and the 2.0GLS for comfort. You can expect 30-34 MPG urban driving & 45+MPG on a motorway run from the 1.8 ecotec...

awesome performance
Review of Vauxhall Vectra SRi 2.6i hatchback by
D1A1UK
Advantages: Very quick and well built
Disadvantages: depreciation
...The successor to the MIGHTY Cavalier GSI - but this time in an estate version - this car has got so much power - I can literally smell the petrol fumes from it's engine?! All is well with the car - it is SO right - with awesome looks and great standard equipment - this is a car to be proud of owning.
OK - so when you think of a highly innovative car manufacturer 0 do you think of Vauxhall - No. It's hardly the first name that springs to mind - Lotus could be one, and Porsche perhaps, maybe even Fiat - but due to cars like the Vectra - the Vauxhall image has been one of much blandness throughout the past few years. However, all is changing as I type - the latest Astra models and Astra Coupe models show style - and the forthcoming Corsa will be a hit. Add to that the greatest Sports car at under £24000 - the VX220 - and Vauxhall's image...

BIRTHDAY OPINION.
Review of Vauxhall Vectra CD 2.2i saloon by
wilsam00
Advantages: SEE OPINION
Disadvantages: The all new model will e avalible soon which will affect the re sale values.
...in a Vauxhall dealer near you in June 2002.
Fuel Economy.
The fuel economy for this type of car is very respectable, I average around 33.0 mpg around town and sometimes can get up to 40.0 on a short motorway journey. The fuel economy does not really make a difference if you’re going fast or slow. Overall I was quite impressed with the fuel economy.
Looks.
Some may say the Vauxhall Vectra is an old and dated car, but I can’t agree, its not the most modern of cars on the road but it looks sensible. The Vauxhall Vectra can be bought in the Saloon version (which I have), Estate and Hatchback. The CD has the sporty extras which Inc 5 spoke Alloy wheels and the sporty side skirts
Reliability.
The reliability of ‘Vauxhall’ is not the best reliability record. Various members of my family have owned Vauxhalls and 99% of which...

I bought a 1997 Vauxhall Vectra
Review of Buying A Second Hand Car by
stripey
Advantages: Lots of mod cons and economy for a 2.0 litre car
Disadvantages: boot space and rear trim
...I recently bought a 1997 Vauxhall Vectra Estate 2.0 16v GLS estate. Having looked a a number of estate and hatchback examples privately and from traders it was clear that some had had a very hard life, so I took my time and kept looking.
The car I finally purchased privately and wish to share the merits of this car. The engine is very quiet and fantastically smooth.
It comes with electric heated mirrors, air conditioning, central locking, alarm and immobiliser. The steering wheel is adjustable, as is the drivers seat up and down for that perfect position and visibility. It has traction control and ABS.The brakes are fantastic. Electric windows to the front and a super CD radio. The traffic master warns of motorway hold ups and has already saved me from some serious motorway delays.
I used to have a saab 9000i which I loved but I...

Possibly the worst car I have ever driven
Review of Vauxhall Vectra LS 1.8i estate by
JeffFromPoole
Advantages: It didn't let the rain in
Disadvantages: terrible comfort, performance and economy
...used in 24 hours. I did just over 200 miles and it cost over £30 to fill the tank when I gave it back.
Vauxhall are very good at re-hashing all their old designs and making them look different but in the thirty years I have been driving a wide variety of cars they still have not improved basic comfort.
Performance is decidedly average, there would be no need to worry about G force when accelerating hard. I found the brakes a bit spongy but they did the job. all in all I cannot recommend the vectra estate when there are so many better cars available for the same price or cheaper....

3 years warranty wasn't enough
Review of Vauxhall Vectra SRi 2.2 dti estate by
sueymoss
Advantages: good looking car, low servicing costs
Disadvantages: regular expensive repair costs
...Bought an 8 month old Vectra SRI 2.2DTI estate (2001 Y reg) for a fraction of the new cost. Thought I'd got a good deal. It's not a bad looking car, and has enough power when required, but can average (at first) 50+mpg (55mpg@70mph on a motorway).
It has been looked after and driven carefully, (I wanted a diesel estate car, not particularly an SRI to drive fast), and has a full Vauxhall service history.
At first, oil consumption was high (approx 1/2litre every 1000 miles), but gradually reduced to almost nothing as the car got older. Servicing costs have been very low, with a 20000mile/1year service interval, and the average cost being approx £150 at a Vauxhall main dealer.
We were happy with the car at first, but became more despondent each time it developed a fault or broke down.
It came with the balance of the manufacturers 3...

An estate that drives like a saloon
Review of VW Passat Estate 1.9 TDI by
kev19687607
Advantages: massive boot, and looks good
Disadvantages: fiddley heating controls. Tiny glove compartment.
...Ive been the proud owner of a VW estate for about 2 months now. It looks beautiful in Silver Blue and performance wise its a real gem to drive.Sadly its a company car and not my own.
Compared to my old car (Vauxhall Vectra Estate) it has lots more space in the boot and more leg room for the rear passengers.
The only complaints I have are the tiny glove compartment (hardly big enough for a pair of gloves) and fiddley controls for the heating / air con.
Its the small details with VW's that make the difference, like the flaps covering the boot catch, and the fold away cargo net. Automatic windowscreen wipers, heated mirrors and a self dimming rear view mirror - however I have'nt quite worked out how this works yet..
For a diesel the car is remarkably quiet, fuel consumption is excellent and going by the on board fuel computer I can get...

Vauxhall Vectra Elite 2.0DTi 16v Estate
Review of Vauxhall Vectra Elite 2.0i 16v Turbo 5dr by
aldonald
Advantages: Spacious, comfortable, well equipped and economical.
Disadvantages: Sounds like a diesel, accelerates like a diesel!
...I recently decided to change my car and started to look for something suitable. I had already decided on an estate car to cope with the dog and I wanted to swap to diesel to reduce the fuel bill; however, that's as far as I had got.
Now there are loads of decent diesel estate cars out there, so whats the best way to choose one? My advice is to follow the basic steps of, listing the contenders, going to a car supermarket to test drive as many as possible and then searching for the right car. Anyway, I test drove the Renault Laguna, Ford Mondeo, MG ZTT, Honda Accord, Peugeot 307 and the Vauxhall Vectra.
They all had good and bad points but I chose the Vectra as the one that suited me best. Because I like all the toys, I wanted the top of the range Elite and although they are not too common, I searched the Internet and found...

Nice Car Shame its a Vauxhall
Review of Vauxhall Astra Club 1.6i 16v Estate by
ali007
Advantages: Rewarding Handling, Torquey Engine, Driving Position
Disadvantages: It's a Vauxhall, Depreciation
...usable and seems to have been put together properly.
The driving position is good, I’m over six foot and can (just) fit comfortably, all the pedals are light which makes the car particularly easy to drive, however as I mentioned earlier the Vectra gear box means it can be difficult to change gear smoothly.
Like the previous model the best aspect of this Astra is it’s engine. It may only be a 1.6 and has just 8 valves rather than 16, but it’s very torquey and pulls well, even when the estate is fully laden there is still enough grunt to overtake safely. It’s also a very responsive engine, which combined with plenty of grip and feel in the steering makes for fun driving if you can find a quick twisty road (A74 into Moffat). I never thought I’d ever say fun and Vauxhall in the same line!
As for resale, well fortunately this is my parents...
