...1998 Vectra 2.0 SRi The SRi (2.0) is a more defined car, than the "normal" range cars. This is helped by "uprated" suspension and wider track tyres. Interior features are slightly similar to the standard range, but enhanced by improved trim, based on the CDX. Performance is near to that of the GSi, as there are many complainants of the GSi, who have also driven the SRi! The vehicle is a compromise between the top of the range GSi (which is a modified SRi, supplied by MSD) and the CDX. Advantages: Great desirability

...In its early days not even theives and joyriders would be willing to drive a Vectra. The looks were to put it nicely bland and unappealing even to the company reps who get given them for nothing this car was a bit of an embarassment. However things have come along way since 1996 when the Vectra was first introduced. The sporty versions sucxh as the acclaimed SRi and the GSi are taking the humble saloon to new levels of ride quality and performance. The engines are extremley responsive, the 2.5 litre V6 is perhaps the best around, despite it being extremlet thirsty around town. The car looks as you would expect, mean and unforgiving. The interior is also pleasing to the eye and retains Vauxhalls reputation for durability and functionality. Overall a very nice car, but at a high price.... Read review

Advantages: Nice looking car

...I have just taken this model of Vectra on a test drive when at an open day for vauxhals, I accidently got lost so I could see what the car would preform like and to be honest it was not nearly as quick off the mark as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong it is not a slow car but for years I had a Cavalier SRi and if I had the choice I would go back to that rather than I a new Vectra. Vectra's still need new tyres every 10-12,000 miles and for somebody who puts in a few miles a week it can work out dear. Over all it is not a bad car but I still think that there could be a few more improvements made.... Read review

Advantages: Great drive
Disadvantages: Economy suffers when driven hard.

...I had a couple of these as hire cars, covering about 15000 miles over 6 months. They were pre-facelift models (04 and 54 reg). If I was in the market to buy a car in this class. this would be a sure contender. The SRi badge is probably pushing things a little. I always associated SRi's with BIG engines, and certainly not diesels! However, while the diesel (150ps) does a good job, I have to say the handling is the thing that justifies that Sri badge. The car feels really safe cornering and in general driving situations. While the Vectra has yet to reach the NCAP safety ratings of 5* acheived by manufacturers such as Renault, I would suggest that improved handling offered by a Vectra over a competetive model would actually reduce your need for this higher rating. ...If you want speed and to be be able to do 150mph plus then this car is fine I am not nocking it on the performance front. But we had this model 2.5 v6 and the amount of problems that we had were out of this world. It took 2 months to fix a blocked up air conditioning filter as the car is so complicated. The car flooded due to this with large pools of water flooding the passenger side. The handbrake was faulty with the vectra of this N reg batch that year. Also the pollen filter constantly got wet this was every 2 weeks it had to be changed so many times. My advice to anyone who wants to purchase a Vectra in the N reg year think again.... Read review

Advantages: all of the things i have said, the car itself is an advantage
Disadvantages: engine management light faults.

...I drove a few of these whilst looking for my new car, i settled on a new vectra c, 1,8 SXi, however i really loved the feeling these gave, a very raw, typical car feeling, in all of them the engine just sat and purred. Speed, for an 1800 engine, was surprisingly good, Acceleration was quick, and the top speed seemed fine, and seemed to get there quicly too. As for comfort, nice, very raw, looks like a car, no added things you dont need, confy seats, nice heating system and a well lit dash board, gave a comfortable stylish ride. As for the outside of the car, looks gorgeous, i have aloways loved the vectras, especially the sri and sxi's. Really sporty and stylish car for all ages. As for downsides? not really aware of any from what i have seen, I am only aware of a common fault with the engine management lights. But i believe... Read review

Advantages: Unusually good build quality and reliability from a Vauxhall.
Disadvantages: The wife limits my access.

...Having owned our Vectra Sri for some 2 years now I have to say first and foremost it's been unusual. This is due to the quality of this car when most of my experience with Vauxhall have been costly. The 2.6 V6 SRi is without doubt one of Vauxhalls finest cars, in my opinion. From the outside theres little to give away the potential of the car to the casual motorist. Sure theres the body coloured mouldings and bumpers, 16" twin spoke alloys, slightly lower stance, a square rear Irmscher tailpipe and a tiny badge on the side and rear but all these are normally overlooked. Fantastic! Who wants to scream out to the "modified" brigade and attract unwanted prying eyes? NOT ME! Out on the road the Vectra is a great car. It inspires confidence thanks to it's traction control and huge amount of grip in the corners. It never feels unsettled... Read review

...The successor to the MIGHTY Cavalier GSI - but this time in an estate version - this car has got so much power - I can literally smell the petrol fumes from it's engine?! All is well with the car - it is SO right - with awesome looks and great standard equipment - this is a car to be proud of owning. OK - so when you think of a highly innovative car manufacturer 0 do you think of Vauxhall - No. It's hardly the first name that springs to mind - Lotus could be one, and Porsche perhaps, maybe even Fiat - but due to cars like the Vectra - the Vauxhall image has been one of much blandness throughout the past few years. However, all is changing as I type - the latest Astra models and Astra Coupe models show style - and the forthcoming Corsa will be a hit. ...The first thing you think about when you think about a Vectra is, rep car. And for most people thats where it ends. It is true that they are used as company cars for thousands of people but there is oh so much more to it that than. The 2.0i 16v Turbo engine in this SRi model is simply spectactular. The styling inside and out is a vast improvement on previous models. The build quality is again much higher than you would think for a car that new you should be able to pick up for under 20K and secondhand for a 2 year old model for just under 10K. That there though shows one of the problems with the car. They can lose their value but if you do get a 2 year old model the depreciation is much much less. With a top speed of over 120 mph and 0-60 in under 8 seconds this car really can be fun to handle. The SRi has had it's handling... Read review
