...I am sure that most of you are familiar with the bright orange, get your sunglasses out, Vax carpet cleaning system. I am now on my second one having bought my first when they were the state of the art vacuum cleaner and launched into the shops some twenty years ago.
Now, don?t get me wrong, I am not an obsessive cleaner, but we currently own three hoovers. Interestingly, none of them are actually made by Hoover!
When we moved here my Vax gave up the ghost after years of sterling service. It was with a sense of sadness that I hurled it into the huge skip at the council tip! I then bought a Dyson upright cleaner. I do generally prefer an upright cleaner- much easier on the old back!

...I bought my Vax 6131 back in October 2007 after my old upright vacuum cleaner finally gave up the ghost. I was searching for a new replacement upright vacuum cleaner but after stumbling across the Vax 6131 on special offer I decided a wet and dry vacuum that also shampoos carpets would be really handy, especially with a dog and cat in the house!
The Vax 6131 is a cylinder or canister vacuum cleaner that as well as being used as an ordinary dry vacuum cleaner, can also suck up wet spills and shampoo your carpet.

I use my Vax 6131 mainly as an everyday, ordinary vacuum cleaner and I've found it does the job well. It comes supplied with a standard hose and vacuum head. The head has a simple switch for 'brushes down' for hard floor vacuuming and 'brushes up' for carpets.

We live in a small cottage which has beams and is over 200 years old. Anyone who has lived in such a property will tell you that dust and cobwebs are an occupational hazard. As it is small we bought one of those compact bagless cleaners which turned out to be a real pain in the derriere, it would fall over rather than be dragged around, the capacity was laughable and the bits would fall out of the cupboard every time we opened the door. It got the sack and we bought the Vax on special offer.
Price paid
Considerably cheaper than the one we bought in 1993, we paid £79.95 in Robert Dyas in Dorchester. Good old Bobby D's.

...Having a 3 year old, plus 2 cats who love to leave us presents in the living room my carpet really needed a good clean. I decided to borrow my brothers Vax cleaner as it is an upright and my old vax was in the shed and I didn`t want to have to dig it out.
He gave me the basic instructions on how to use it but had lost the manual so I had to figure most of it out myself!
How did I clean my carpet?
Basically I filled up the clean water tank with hot water,this is quite a big tank and sits in the upright part of the vax. I then added the vax solution to the solution tank which fits in underneath the clean water tank.

The cleaner arrived securely packaged in tough box, complete with instructions on assembly and useage. After unpacking this lightweight model I found it very easy to attatch the handle and place the accesssories ( which is a 3 in 1 cervice tool,dusting brush and upholstery tool ) into the body ready for use on more specific tasks. And so I ventured into the virtual land of cost comparison seeking a replacement for my old stager but the best price I could find for a Dyson was just short of £300. However I noticed that the name Vax Turboforce Pet kept cropping up as an alternative. The few reviews I found delivered mixed opinions but all recommended its pet hair raising abilities! When I eventually arrived in Amazon land and found a new machine available for next day delivery for just £97.99 (including post and packing with Amazon Prime), it was an offer I couldn't refuse and a few clicks sealed the deal.

...I've owned this carpet cleaner with upholstery attachment for nearly exactly two years, when purchased it was on offer at £69.99, currently £81.74 (RRP £149.99)at amazon. The first and probably most important thing I would say about this cleaner is don't pay £149.99 or you may be disappointed. When you first get the cleaner it is in a large box, and needs putting together. There was one moment of confusion, where I thought we were lacking some screws (they were found partway screwed into the body of the machine), but otherwise, if you read the instructions properly, you should have a problem with putting it together.
The best thing about this hoover is it's powerful suction. This will get anything, and I mean anything, up from your floor. This is especially useful...

...After the 2nd dyson packed in we decided that we would give another company a try. Went and looked at the vax mach 6 and thought we would buy it and give it a try.
Got it home and tried it out and wow what a machine, i thought dyson had good suction, but the vax had even more, you could see it lifting the carpet up as you went over and the dyson only did that for the first month we had it, vax is now 6 months old and still has the suction from day one.
comes with all the normal attachments and also 2nd flexi pipe to extend the hose out.
It has a great attachment that is really good if you have cloth sofa, attahment is just like brush on hoover but in smaller form and when attached to the hose the suction makes the brush spin round, also really good on the stairs.
