...I am sure that most of you are familiar with the bright orange, get your sunglasses out, Vax carpet cleaning system. I am now on my second one having bought my first when they were the state of the art vacuum cleaner and launched into the shops some twenty years ago. Now, don?t get me wrong, I am not an obsessive cleaner, but we currently own three hoovers. Interestingly, none of them are actually made by Hoover! When we moved here my Vax gave up the ghost after years of sterling service. It was with a sense of sadness that I hurled it into the huge skip at the council tip! I then bought a Dyson upright cleaner. I do generally prefer an upright cleaner- much easier on the old back! The Dyson has been, for the most part great. Advantages: Simple to use, inexpensive, great results
Disadvantages: Bulky, heavy machine, difficult to store neatly

Since our first Vax, some 15 years ago the accessories have been improved and are less liable to break. All in all I'm happy with the way it is put together. Assembly Drawbacks Removing the vacuum cleaning head can be hard, especially if it hasn't been taken off for a while. I recommend smearing the inside of the joint with a tiny amount of Vaseline. Noise level = Most vacuum cleaners are noisy, this one is a little louder than most but compensates by being a little more powerful and getting on with the job, so you don't have to run it for as long. I live in a 3 bed semi with my partner and 2 cats so I needed something substantial but nothing overly flash! Vax V006 vacuum cleaner

Advantages: Very powerful cleaner, sturdy.

My initial feelings were, that the Vax would be just another reincarnation of the Dyson, but I am pleased to say, 'I was wrong'! Vax a Heavy Cleaner

Advantages: very long lead, and a big water tank

I decided to borrow my brothers Vax cleaner as it is an upright and my old vax was in the shed and I didn`t want to have to dig it out. ...We initially bought this vacuum cleaner because our old one had developed a rather nasty smell and we'd managed to melt one of the pipes. (Don't ask) This was on offer at our local Argos, and we picked it up for £50 (down from over £100). I'd heard of the Vax brand name and I admit I expected good things from this cleaner. I wasn't disappointed. When you first get the cleaner it is in a large box, and needs putting together. There was one moment of confusion, where I thought we were lacking some screws (they were found partway screwed into the body of the machine), but otherwise, if you read the instructions properly, you should have a problem with putting it together.
