Advantages: ports on the front, good pic quality, additional ports on the back Disadvantages: everything is DVD or hardrive these days !!
...i think this video player is fantastic ... brought it about 5 years ago ... you can tell how long ago becuase it cost my mum £99.95 for a christmas present ... still got the VCR now though ...
this VCR is fantastic ... has amazin levels of durability and is really good value ... these days about £24.95 typically ...
i have had the VCR for at least 5 years now ... up to 8 maximum ... it shows the durability and has never failed me once ...
the VCR has a video and auido output on the front ... didn't think much of this at the time but know i think its amazin because i put the lead from my digital camera into each port and my photos come through the TV ... this is fantastic because i don't have to go round the back of the TV (rather messy with 10 million meters of cable) to find the ports ... just wack it in the front ...

Review of Bush VCR946
Advantages: Light, stylish, easy to use, good picture and sound quality at the price Disadvantages: You can't stop it, once it has started recording on the timer.
...The Bush VCR906 offered reasonable facilities and was available in Argos for £39.00.
I don?t know how much longer we are going to be using video recorders with tapes. So the last thing I wanted to do was lash out on an expensive one at this point in time.
My old video was perfectly ok. But the remote packed up. As it was a so called "transmitter" remote. It would be costly to replace, with no guarantee that a new one would even work. So I have to shop for an brand new video.
I found the new machine, stylish, light weight and easy to use, and adequate for my purpose, which is mainly time shifting, i.e. recording something so that I can watch it at my convenience at a later time/date.
The VCR906 has auto tune, and a capacity for 14 channels. More than I need for basic analogue Terrestrial TV. However, if the signal is week you...

Review of Bush VCR906
Advantages: Cheap and cheerful with all the main functions wanted Disadvantages: Nothing major-aesthetically not too pleasing
...Alba VCR6000
Features: On-screen displays, 80 memory for presets, auto TV station search, 2 speed recording/playback, timer recording, one touch timer record, video index search, auto rewind, auto eject, auto power off, zero return, on screen language display (English, French or German), scart socket and an infrared remote control.
This VCR was my first VCR and it is still in perfect working order after having daily use for a year and a half. I find that it is a very reliable video recorder-when ever I use the timer record function it has always recorded the right programme at the right time.
I find that I often use the index search feature-this allows you to fast forward or rewind to when you started to record something; I find this useful when I am searching through a tape to try and find something because it allows me to...

Review of Alba VCR6000 SIL
Advantages: Seems to do everything the maker claims Disadvantages: hav'nt found one yet
...I have recently purchased the Toshiba D-VR16SB combo unit, and am initially very pleased with it.
It is a neat looking unit, and I found the initial connecting and set up relatively easy.The unit has an auto tune facility to find the terrestial TV channels, and scart connection for satellite, and facilities are there for s video or audio/video cables if required.
For DVD recording it has a choice of six modes, giving up toa max of 600 minutes on a 12cm DVD disc, down to the highest quality level of recording, giving 60 mins of very high quality.I have used the recorder on the standard setting, which gives 120 mins at a fairly good quality level. You can use DVD RW disc, which you can wipe and reuse, or normal discs which you finalise, and they can then be played on any DVD player.
If you wish to record onto Video tape, then the VCR...
Advantages: records straight from VHS to DVD, acutally real dual tuner! Disadvantages: cannot edit unless you use DVD-RAM discs, not freeview
...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Reasons for purchasing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had about 300 recorder video tapes of some key moments that I wanted to keep. Having had them stored in cardboard boxes for about 5-10 years, I was worried about the degradation of their quality so decided to invest in a dvd-recorder rather than a dvd-writing service..After some research between this and a
hitachi model I opted for this. My primary requirement was to copy from VHS to DVD and this does it perfectly, it is real time which means you cannot use either function as you have to play the video tape in order to write it to the dvd for permanent retention.
The Unit
The unit is a matt silver colour with the DVD unit on the left and the VCR unit on the right. The respective load/unload buttons are the the right of each...
Review of Toshiba D-VR 3
Advantages: Good Quality for VHS, Many Features Disadvantages: Outdated Technology, Complicated to use
...This was the last VCR we owned before upgrading to Sky+ and DVD's. If you still prefer to use tape this would be a very viable option recording in standard play/long play and extended play. This allows you to choose to degredate quality in favour of longer recording times. Using extended play you can fit 9 hours of video on a 3 hour tape, this is very advantageous if you are going on holiday as coupled with its DPSS you can set all your recordings in advance and not have to worry about the tape running out.
Overall this is a great machine for getting the best quality out of old technology, it allows the use of Sharp Super Picture to increase the quality of tape and records in Nicam Hi-Fi Stereo to give some of the best audio quality available on VCR's. Another feature that greatly improves the quality of this VCR is its use of Scart...
Review of Sharp VCMH704
Advantages: Easy to set up and use. Disadvantages: Some functions may be rarely used
...LCD Display which keeps you fully informed of all that is happening.
In short, the machine gives you easy access to all you need, but does so in a beautiful appearance. In our living room, this has elegantly replaced the old DVD player and VCR, and left loads of space on the shelf as a result.
3 Operation
**********
There are folk who get put off technology because machines are difficult to operate.
Let me describe the ease of operation of this machine in two sections - setting it up at the beginning, and then the day-to-day use of the recorder.
Set-up
++++
One of the problems about receiving gadgets as Christmas presents, is that the recipient has to get the hang of them very quickly on Christmas day, or he will lose all credibility as a budding technofreak.
So I had some cause to be nervous as Christmas Day approached.
I knew...
Review of LG RH 7500
Advantages: One of the cheapest dual format recorders Disadvantages: slow to start recording from standby
...the channels is completed, it is necessary to do a lengthy swap-around to put the channels where you want them, as they are organised in the order they were found rather than strongest signals first. Luckily, most of the other default settings do not need altering. Aside from this initial annoyance, the set up menus are easy to follow and logical. It is also worth noting that channel set up is required each time you have updated the firmware, and sometimes if you have just had to reboot the machine.
Once the task of connection and setup were complete, it was time to test the recording. Ther are several recording quality settings, ranging from 1 to 6 hours playback from a single layer 4.7gb disc (dual layer writing is not supported on this machine). Purchase of the machine was initially to replace the VCR, and to transfer umpteen years worth...
Review of LiteOn LVW-5006
Advantages: Guideplus; several recording modes; plays CDs and MP3s Disadvantages: Freezes occasionally; missed programme endings
...Setup
Connecting the cables is relatively straightforward using the enclosed diagram. The first time I set it up, I couldn't get the electronic programme guide to work (probably because of a poor TV signal in my area), although I learned to live with it as I was still able to pre-programme recordings. When I moved house, setup went as described, so I must presume that my first negative experience was a glitch. The EPG works well now and is always up to date.
The DVDR-80 can record from two external receivers (satellite set-top boxes, to you and me). UK users beware, though: not all makes of satellite receiver appear in the setup process.
Recording
There are several recording modes. These range from M8 (the manufacturers describe this as video quality, though I think it's better than any recording on my best VCR), giving you eight...
Review of Philips DVDR80
Advantages: Reliable, good quality Disadvantages: A few minor things
...A year later and another Christmas, after getting a TV last year (see previous review) I decided I wanted a VCR to accompany it. We are a very TV / video orientated family, as there are five of us it is very rare we all watch what we want to watch when it is on. We record programs most nights and often have a stack of 15 videos or so in the corner of the room waiting to be watched! There are often arguments as only one thing can be watched and two things recorded (you can only record what you are watchign downstairs), a fourth program causes many a argument!
Therefore I decided me getting a VCR would solve this scenario and would also enable me to watch videos in bed (i'm lazy like that!).
After opening the box I again (as with the TV) saw the unknown make, (Matsui (it was unknown to me anyway)). Still with the last unknown...
