Vectra SRi 1.9CDTi

Advantages: Great drive
Disadvantages: Economy suffers when driven hard.

...I had a couple of these as hire cars, covering about 15000 miles over 6 months. They were pre-facelift models (04 and 54 reg). If I was in the market to buy a car in this class. this would be a sure contender. The SRi badge is probably pushing things a little. I always associated SRi's with BIG engines, and certainly not diesels! However, while the diesel (150ps) does a good job, I have to say the handling is the thing that justifies that Sri badge. The car feels really safe cornering and in general driving situations. While the Vectra has yet to reach the NCAP safety ratings of 5* acheived by manufacturers such as Renault, I would suggest that improved handling offered by a Vectra over a competetive model would actually reduce your need for this higher rating. Vauxhall Vectra SRI 150 2.2 (150ps)

Advantages: Reliable, well built performance family hatchback.
Disadvantages: Some faults too common, it's a Vauxhall Vectra!!

...The introduction of the new 2.2 16v Eco-tech engine amongst the current line up of 6 engines; ranging from 1.6 to 2.5 V6 with two diesel power plants thrown in between, gave customers a successful comprimise between the not-so-nippy 2.0l and the fuel guzzling 2.5l V6 engine. The 2.2l 4 cylinder engine gave real flexibilitly in terms of driveability. With dollops of low end torque, and with strong useable power right up to the redline, together with the potential of achieving mpg figures of mid 30's overall, customers would have had to have been given poor advice from their dealer to opt for either of the other two engines mentioned here. Advantages: great road handling, big boot space, comfortable to drive
Disadvantages: not enough interior room

...in my opinion the vauxhall vectra isa nice looking family car, we have the sri 1.8, the interior is satisfactory the cd radio is not the best sound in the world but it does the job, comfort wise it is again satisfactory but it lacks back pasenger space, i have 2 car seats in mine and with my husband being tall he has seat further back resulting in my toddlers feet not being able to move and also if someone gets in the back it is very tight. The boot space is ample i can get a double pushchair in and still have room for other things. The road handling is supberb it handles corners like a dream and i dont think petrol consumption is to bad, i am currently getting about 36mpg round town and 45mpg on the motorway. In all i think the car is a very good buy i would say the only badside in my opinion is lack of interior room....

Off road it is important to ensure that the amount of things that can get tangled up in hedges, branches etc is kept to an absolute minimum and the only option, therefore, is a wireless computer. ...I've owned a few Vauxhalls, even a Chevette , and also many other different brand vehicles, but the the Vectra was one of the worst cars i have had the misfortune to have ever purchased. It hated to be driven at all, when ever i turned the ignition key the damn thing wouldn't start as the sensors all seemed to go mad at the same time, each sensor must have had it's own sensor to sense it was senseless. When i did manage to get it started it dragged itself along the road as though someone had stolen my tyres whilst i wasn't looking. It cornered like a sherman tank with one track missing and trying to get some power from it was asking for trouble, considering it had a 2.0 litre engine under the bonnet you would have achieved more responce from a snail on sleeping tablets. Vauxhall Vectra 1.8i Club Hatchback

Advantages: Nice looking, good space, cheap to buy compared to similar vehicles
Disadvantages: slightly underpowered, expensive to run

...Previously owned a Ford Escort 1.6 16v EFI estate and I must say my first impressions of this car are that it is fantastic compared. We went to a car supermarket and saw this Vauxhall Vectra on a 51 plate (looks like a club rather than LS) with 15k on clock with a price tag of £4000. The car is a nice metallic burgundy in perfect condition with new tyres all around. Being a car supermarket you cannot haggle on price so I got them to double check the mileage as it is a 4 year old car. The mileage was correct so we snapped it up considering all my other cars were bought with 60,000+ miles on them. The car itself has a 1.8i 16v ecotek engine with apparently 122bhp. Vauxhall Vectra Arctic 2.0 Diesel

Advantages: Economical, Great Handling & Reliable, Spacious
Disadvantages: Looks a bit scruffy, No CD Player, security needs to be improved (But is Sufficient)

...I have recently purchased the Vauxhall Vectra Arctic 2.0 Diesel, 1998 (Second-Hand). To say the car is nearly ten, the wear and tear is in reasonable condition, and the handling of the vehicle is superb, I had the opportunity to test drive this vehicle (Petrol Version) when it was launched, but it did not meet expectations, it was tight to handle round corners, and the fuel consumption was high, and it just felt scruffy and clingy. So I scrapped the idea of getting one and went to fords instead. However I was given the opportunity to buy one of these cars second-hand, and I have to say the feel of the diesel is brilliant, although, not so good for the environment, the Vauxhall can do the distance on a low budget. Don't slate the Vectra just yet

Advantages: A load of equipment, very economical while still being powerful, spacious
Disadvantages: Handling in certain conditions, has had a bad press since its launch,

...The Vauxhall Vectra Arctic was a Special Edition that was available from 1997 (R reg) to 1999 (T reg) and so is no longer available as a new car but can, as I did, be bought second hand. It makes an amazing buy, primarily due to the extra features that it has and that would only be found on higher priced versions of the Vectra. If you manage to get one with a low mileage too, you are on to a winner. They were only available in metallic blue or silver and with only one choice of engine, 1.8 16V petrol. I have the metallic blue version and it looks really nice. What is also good is that the Arctic is relatively cheap to insure, despite the extra features. It costs roughly the same as an LS trim model to insure but significantly less than a GLS. As a 21 year old male, insurance is always a problem but with this car you can have...
