Advantages: Great drive
Disadvantages: Economy suffers when driven hard.

...I had a couple of these as hire cars, covering about 15000 miles over 6 months. They were pre-facelift models (04 and 54 reg). If I was in the market to buy a car in this class. this would be a sure contender. The SRi badge is probably pushing things a little. I always associated SRi's with BIG engines, and certainly not diesels! However, while the diesel (150ps) does a good job, I have to say the handling is the thing that justifies that Sri badge. The car feels really safe cornering and in general driving situations. While the Vectra has yet to reach the NCAP safety ratings of 5* acheived by manufacturers such as Renault, I would suggest that improved handling offered by a Vectra over a competetive model would actually reduce your need for this higher rating. Vauxhall Vectra SRI 150 2.2 (150ps)

Advantages: Reliable, well built performance family hatchback.
Disadvantages: Some faults too common, it's a Vauxhall Vectra!!

...The introduction of the new 2.2 16v Eco-tech engine amongst the current line up of 6 engines; ranging from 1.6 to 2.5 V6 with two diesel power plants thrown in between, gave customers a successful comprimise between the not-so-nippy 2.0l and the fuel guzzling 2.5l V6 engine. The 2.2l 4 cylinder engine gave real flexibilitly in terms of driveability. With dollops of low end torque, and with strong useable power right up to the redline, together with the potential of achieving mpg figures of mid 30's overall, customers would have had to have been given poor advice from their dealer to opt for either of the other two engines mentioned here. 2001 Vauxhall Vectra 2.6 24v V6 SRi.

Advantages: Unusually good build quality and reliability from a Vauxhall.
Disadvantages: The wife limits my access.

...Having owned our Vectra Sri for some 2 years now I have to say first and foremost it's been unusual. This is due to the quality of this car when most of my experience with Vauxhall have been costly. The 2.6 V6 SRi is without doubt one of Vauxhalls finest cars, in my opinion. From the outside theres little to give away the potential of the car to the casual motorist. Sure theres the body coloured mouldings and bumpers, 16" twin spoke alloys, slightly lower stance, a square rear Irmscher tailpipe and a tiny badge on the side and rear but all these are normally overlooked. Fantastic! Who wants to scream out to the "modified" brigade and attract unwanted prying eyes? NOT ME! Out on the road the Vectra is a great car. It inspires confidence thanks to it's traction control and huge amount of grip in the corners. It never feels...

Advantages: great road handling, big boot space, comfortable to drive
Disadvantages: not enough interior room

...in my opinion the vauxhall vectra isa nice looking family car, we have the sri 1.8, the interior is satisfactory the cd radio is not the best sound in the world but it does the job, comfort wise it is again satisfactory but it lacks back pasenger space, i have 2 car seats in mine and with my husband being tall he has seat further back resulting in my toddlers feet not being able to move and also if someone gets in the back it is very tight. The boot space is ample i can get a double pushchair in and still have room for other things. The road handling is supberb it handles corners like a dream and i dont think petrol consumption is to bad, i am currently getting about 36mpg round town and 45mpg on the motorway. In all i think the car is a very good buy i would say the only badside in my opinion is lack of interior room....

Beruwela (Sri Lanka)

...We have recently come back from Beruwela (Sri Lanka). We flew from Heathrow on Sri Lankan Air Lines. The flight it self was nearly 10 hours but made as comftable as possible. On each seat was TV screen, the various channels included 3 film channels, comedy channel and also a channel where you could map out the journey. The meal service was first class. Food was Sri Lankan food and you had a choice of meals so suitable for any taste. Compimentry drinks included. Downside when arriving at the airport lookout for the porters wearing orange BIBS, if they help with baggage they expect english money. My experience included one porter taking to meeting point and another trying to take bags to bus pick up point and another trying to load on the bus. ...I am going to explain my experience in Galle. I went on a trip to Galle with my friends. We took "Ruhunu Kumari" train. It was operated through the coastal area. Scenery was so beautiful and we enjoyed very much.The beaches are very beautiful. There were few tourists in the train. You have to realize how beautiful Galle is. You can see fishermen sitting on sticks fishing in the see along the south coast. It is a strange technique of fishing. Nobody knows how this technique originated from. It works as the stilts are attractive sceneries. You can catch a glimpse of the famouse stilt fishermen in the down south. You are lucky as such a sight is nowhere to be found in Sri Lanka. ...I've owned a few Vauxhalls, even a Chevette , and also many other different brand vehicles, but the the Vectra was one of the worst cars i have had the misfortune to have ever purchased. It hated to be driven at all, when ever i turned the ignition key the damn thing wouldn't start as the sensors all seemed to go mad at the same time, each sensor must have had it's own sensor to sense it was senseless. When i did manage to get it started it dragged itself along the road as though someone had stolen my tyres whilst i wasn't looking. It cornered like a sherman tank with one track missing and trying to get some power from it was asking for trouble, considering it had a 2.0 litre engine under the bonnet you would have achieved more responce from a snail on sleeping tablets. Sri Lankan Airlines scammed us

Advantages: OK food I guess
Disadvantages: I never would have paid for the flights they stuck us with.

...We booked tickets from London to Colombo and Singapore a couple months before our holiday and choose Sri Lankan because they were slightly cheaper than others. A month before the holiday they cancelled one of the flights and rescheduled the remaining flights without giving us any option for a refund. The flights we were left with were horrible (9 hour layover and a long haul flight leaving at 4am) and we were forced to take extra time off work as the new flights arrived on Monday morning. We would NEVER have agreed to the flights that were forced on us and definitely wish we had paid a bit more to fly with an airline that doesn?t screw their customers. When we complained (Ref:E/051108/26414/TP) we were told this was within their terms and conditions....
