...Sahara Hotel and Casino , located 2535 Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89109 This Hotel is one of the oldest Hotels in town , must be at least 47 years old. Until abuot 5 years ago, it was pretty neglagted. The rooms and the service wasn't so great or in other words it was real bad. The walls had paint chips all over , it wasn't too clean either. 5 years ago new ownership took over, they invested few Million Dollars, to fix it and make it look real good. They added a NasCar Arcade with a Restairant, Roller coaster for the kids, night club who hosted some good entairteners. They fixed the show room and had some reaal great shows such as: Clint Carlini was of the best Elvis empesenator in the world. Debbie Ranoylds, Susanne Barr and more and more. MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas

Advantages: Everything you could want under one (massive) roof
Disadvantages: Located at the southern end of "The Strip" - so a bit of a walk to some attractions...

...We stayed at the MASSIVE MGM Grand for a few days this time last year. The MGM Grand, guarded by a 45-foot-tall bronze lion statue has 5,005 rooms and used to be the largest hotel in the world, a claim recently stolen by the Ambassador City Jomtien hotel in Thailand with 5,100 rooms. It's still the largest hotel in North America, although I think this will soon be stolen by George Clooney's Vegas hotel development... (While we're on the subject of large hotels, 17 of the 20 largest hotels in the world are in Las Vegas ! So even if you don't stay at The MGM Grand, odds are you'll be staying somewhere big...) Premiering in Vegas!

Advantages: Flashback to the glory days of Vegas, low prices
Disadvantages: A bit shabby, minimalist housekeeping

...and a bit of tarnish, it's still a fully functioning casino with all the bells and whistles. Other amenities include a large outdoor pool, a spa and salon, a business center, a hair-raising roller coaster ride, and monorail access. Of these, we only took advantage of the monorail access--which was enormously useful for traveling up and down The Strip. For gamblers, membership in Club Sahara (every casino in Vegas has something similar) offers opportunities to earn premiums on meals and other comps. Membership is free for the asking. Clearly, there was a time when the Sahara meant luxury. There are signs of this everywhere--the tiles in the casino bathrooms, the crystal chandeliers in the casino itself, and even the wallpaper and trim in the rooms. Today, however, it's just a remnant of the Rat Pack's Vegas. It doesn't compare well...

Vegas Virgins?

Advantages: Centrally Located, Great Views, It's In Las Vegas

...Las Vegas. Hotels are a by-product of the number one business of the city- gambling. So, in ANY hotel casino you stay in, you WILL have to walk through the casino to get to the elevators (lifts). This is their business and if you fully understand that, you won't be shocked. We did find that the walk to the lifts was not bad. We have stayed in other hotel casinos that have had a MUCH longer walk. ~Room~ One of the reasons we choose the petite suite at the Mirage was because it had 2 bathrooms. YES, you read right! 2 BATHROOMS- His and Hers. The room door is actually French doors that open into a marble floor and mirrored foyer. There is a wet bar that includes a sink, drinking glasses, wine glasses, ice bucket, fridge and mini-bar. Please note that the mini-bar is very expensive. We knew how mini-bars can be in Vegas...

Totally Vegas!

Advantages: Fantastic location, very reasonable
Disadvantages: Pool a bit busy, didnt win at the casino!

...buffet, including as much (non alcoholic) drink as you want and coffee. The buffet counters were: Salad Bar Sushi Pizza Seafood Latin Pasta Pizza Noodle Bar Mediterranian Carvery Chinese Cakes Ice Cream Fruit Each counter had a huge spread and would have been enough on their own! There were probably more which I have forgotten. CASINO TIME -------------------------- These days there is so much else to do in Vegas you dont have to gamble but it is what Vegas is all about. We found all the casino's to b much the same as each other, but the Mirage one is, like the rest, huge! Im sure we didnt see it all. There are use usual slot machines ranging from 1c to $100, blackjack, craps, roulette, sports betting etc.. You have to be over 18 to gamble. MGM Grand Hotel - Las Vegas

Advantages: 4/5 star, great price, good gambling and atmosphere

...My husband and I have just gotten back from a trip to Las Vegas and chose the MGM hotel to stay at so this forms my review. The MGM is located right on the strip (Las Vegas Boulevard) right by Tropicana Avenue so fairly near one end of the strip. It is located close to the New York New York hotel and there is actually a walkway which joins the two hotels to give you easy access to both. The hotel in its present form was opened at the end of 1993. Most of the hotels in Las Vegas have a certain them that they like to promote through each of their casinos such at NY NY, Paris, The Venetian etc. The MGM in my opinion is not as heavily themed as the other hotels but follows along the lines of old Hollywood/California movies stars etc with the feature of the MGM lion and movie star photos in the bedrooms. A Taste of Egypt- Las Vegas Style.

Advantages: Unique Shape, Good Casino
Disadvantages: Cleanliness an issue, Understaffed.

...reception areas, we had booked into the Pyramid, and there is a 'Pyramid' reception and a 'Tower' Reception, for guests staying in the towers. The decor was clearly Egyptian, obviously, with hieroglyphics? moulded into the wall, artificial greenery surrounded the walls. It all looked presentable but the floor had some fast food litter on the floor which hadn't been cleared up yet. As you enter up an escalator or stairs, you go past the walkway to/from The Excalibur and head past some of the Luxor souvenir and clothing shops, they were never packed when we pasted but had a steady flow of customers throughout the holiday and the window displays showed a nice selection of goods that could be bought. You enter to try to find reception through the casino, a common theme in Las Vegas, the signage for receptions also stop outside the casino...

Casino - great Vegas of the 70's insight

Advantages: Cracking cast and well acted
Disadvantages: It is violent, and at nearly 3 hours long some will find it too much

...Casino is a long and bloody look at what the gambling epicentre of the world, Las Vegas, was like before the big corporations took over all of the casinos, back in the day where any self-respecting organized crime family could have their fingers well and truly in the many pies offered in Nevada. De Niro is never disappointing, and Sharon Stone plays her part as a cokehead whore worryingly well. Pesci is also great and the voiceovers by the two male lead characters really make the film. Even though it is 171 minutes long, it is so good that it prevents even the most ardent of clockwatchers from wishing away the hours....

...Everyone has heard of the Bellagio in Las Vegas very opulent, a fantastic place to stay and a real budget breaker-but I'm going to tell you about my favourite discovery in Las Vegas where you can enjoy all the glitz of Las Vegas at a fraction of the price.. King Arthur Las Vegas style

Advantages: value for money, right on the strip
Disadvantages: Not exactly tasteful

...your room watching TV you won't be spending your cash downstairs. There's all the usual shampoos and freebies in the relatively spacious bathroom (Excalibur own brand, not terribly exciting). Our room had a table and armchairs and a very comfortable kingsize bed. There are plenty of adjoining rooms with connecting doors for those with children. I don't think there were any safes in the room, but you can rent a safety deposit box if you have that big win! The casino itself is huge (similar to most of the others along the strip). If you haven't been to Vegas before, you'll be amazed by the sheer size and noise and madness of the place. Like all the other casinos, it's open 24 hours a day and it can get pretty busy especially at the gaming tables. If you're playing slots or at the tables, waitresses will bring you drinks for free...
