A VEGETABLE MEDLEY FROM HEAVEN......

Advantages: Packed full of vegetables, super value, filling, tastes great.
Disadvantages: None at all,but an even larger portion would be even better.

...I have to admit I adore curry, in fact I could quite happily live on it, but not the hot killer curry oh no, I like the milder versions that mean you can actually taste what’s in it and not be left with a burnt out mouth and stomach . I have tried a variety of frozen and ready meal curries but the one that I have had recently I am very impressed with overall. This particular curry is Tesco’s vegetable curry with rice, and before you ask no I am not a vegetarian I just like vegetable curries as well as the meatier varieties! SO WHY IS THIS ONE SO GOOD??? ¤•¤•¤•¤•¤•¤•¤•¤•¤•¤•¤•¤•¤•¤•¤•¤• Well it is a generous 400g and this includes a larger than average portion of curry, the curry is made from chunks of potato...

VEGGIE CURRY? WHERE'S THE VEGGIES?

Advantages: Quick easy to make meal
Disadvantages: Not as tasty as other curry's

...While I was doing my weekly shop in Tesco, I was just picking up my usual Birds Eye Chicken Curry when the box next to it caught my eye. Birds Eye Vegetable Curry looked very yummy on the box with lots of chunky yummy looking vegetables. For £1.49 for 400g, a whole 21p more than my chicken one, I decided to try one. It says on the front of the box that it is suitable for vegetarians, but there is no other allergy advice. but the creamy sauce contains coriander, cocunut and other tradition herbs and spices. I wouldn't give this to my son with his nut allergy. The vegetables that it is supposed to contain is carrots, tomatoes, potatoes, cauliflower and green beans! MMM thought me. The fat content per 100g is 2.3g, with 110 calaories per 100g! I'm not someone who is interested in calories and fat so don't know what that means...

Iceland veggie curry

Advantages: Really tasty, extremely good value, quick to prepare
Disadvantages: A bit on the small side

...bits the tastiest as you get a really strong flavour. The curry is a light brown colour and has plenty of chunky vegetables all the way through it, califlower, carrot, potato courgette and green beans. Thankfully for me there are no mushrooms in it! The rice is very ordinary plain white rice. It is a little drier than your average boiled rice when cooked in the microwave but if this really bothers you you can always boil it instead! The curry has a strong enough smell to be noticed when you walk into the room but is not so strong that you can smell it all around the house for days on end after you've eaten it. Likewise the taste is very mild. This is probably why I like it so much because it has all the taste of curry without the annoyance of having to drink five glasses of water with your meal! For people who love really hot food...

Vegetable Pancakes!

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -

...I love a burger in a bun - in fact, I love meat products in general, but I often find that I'm not eating enough vegetables . I think the big reason for this is that, in general, if I cook properly, from scratch, i'll include a lot of veg, but if I'm eating something from the freezer, I tend to go for speed and convenience, and end up microwaving some beans instead . So, I've started switching to veggie burgers - just as quick and easy to cook, but packed with a variety of vegetables instead of meat, for an easy way to get an extra little bit of veg inside me . Dalepak was one of the first brands I tried, picking up a pack of four vegetable grills from Iceland . They're pretty attractive to look at - cutlet shaped veggie grills, made of mashed potato with a variety of veg added in - onion, carrots, sweetcorn, broccoli, green beans...

Curry Me Away On A Cloud Of Veggies....

Advantages: Tastes yummy and Value for Money
Disadvantages: none

...minute. The meal can also be oven cooked, removing outer packaging, piercing film lids, placing on a baking tray in centre of a preheated oven at 910C or gas mark 5 for 35 - 40 minutes, but i couldnt wait that long. ~~~Taste Test~~~ The smell of this curry was very appealing and i could feel my stomach bubbling in anticipation. Or maybe i needed a shit. Either way, i sat myself down and began to eat. The first few mouthfuls gave me tastes of coconutty flavours, with crunchy vegetables. This pleased me as i would have been trashed had they been soggy and watery and tasteless. The curry was very mild, which i also like as i do quite enjoy having my tastebuds and not having them burnt to b*ggery. The rice was very pleasant also, not all caked together like some microwave meals do. I deem this veggie curry as very versatile also, i...

Simple curry paste!

Advantages: tasty, easy to use!!! The perfect spiciness for me!
Disadvantages: Not suitable for those with a nut allergy!

...around £2, and contained around 4-6 meals for two inside. I read the instructions and decided it would be very easy to make, only having to add water, chopped tomatoes and onions, and anything else you might want to add to a curry (vegetables, mushrooms etc). So we bought some, and although since buying it for that first time, I have learned how to make a curry direct from curry powder (along with a lot more!), and we don?t buy this as much anymore, it is a great product which really boosted my confidence in the kitchen. And it makes at least 4 delicious meals! Use Patak?s curry paste is used to make a traditional Indian Madras curry at home. It is extremely simple to use, and all instructions are written out clearly on the back of the jar. The instructions are to serve two people, so if you are making this for a family of four...

Vegetable only stock

Advantages: flavour
Disadvantages: none

...I used a knorr vegetable stock cube when I made a leek and onion soup this week. I had an 8 pack in my store cupboard which I had previously bought at Tesco. This slim rectangular pack costs £1.09 . Each stock cube must weigh 10g as the whole pack weight 80g. The outer card pack is a green and yellow so easy to identify as vegetable especially as there is a picture of a few veg on the pack too. The stock cube is wrapped in green foil There are no artificial preservatives or artificial flavour enhancers. No added MSG. knorr stock cubes are free from artificial colours. They are Suitable for a Gluten or lactose free diet. Only 7 kcalories per100ml of made up stock. This stock cube contains Salt, Vegetable Oil, Potato Starch, Yeast Extract, Sugar, Carrot , Onion Tomato , Herbs (Parsley, Tarragon), Spices (Turmeric, Pepper...

Chicken (and vegetable) soup for the soul

Advantages: delicious, healthy, price
Disadvantages: /

...I have always loved soup. As a child I preferred tomato soup, and the occasional bowl of chicken soup. Though as I've grown older, I prefer soup with 'bits' in. When I discovered the Big Soup options from Heinz, I couldn't believe how satisfying they were, and went exploring the range of flavours to see what they had on offer. This was when I came across the Heinz Big Soup chicken and vegetable soup. The soup can be found in the tins aisle of supermarkets, such as Tesco or Asda, alongside all the other soups. Though the range is easily recognised as each tin is wrapped with a green label, the Heinz sign clear at the top with 'Big Soup' written in bold underneath. Then each one has a picture of a bowl of soup, an image that almost lets you feel the heat rise from the product, a delicious picture to tempt you further. There are many...

The Ultimate Curry Bible?

Advantages: Very comprehensive, interesting background facts, tasty recipes
Disadvantages: Large amount of ingredients can be off-putting, a lot of reading, quite expensive.

...and produced new versions or recipes altogether. The book is split into eight sections; 1) Lamb, Pork, Beef, Veal and Goat. 2) Poultry and Eggs. 3) Fish and Seafood. 4) Vegetables. 5) Dals, Beans and Split Peas. 6) Kebabs and Soups. 7) Rice, Noodles and Breads. 8) Relishes and Accompaniments. There is also an additional section on Special Ingredients and Techniques, as well as an Index. Each section is prefaced with an introduction of the ingredients i.e. Fish and Seafood and how they are commonly used in curries in different countries. There are also further historical explanations and these sections are quite interesting. Each recipe is also prefaced, usually with a small anecdote from Madhur on how she has used the recipe or where she has gotten it from. Sometimes she also has tips on how to serve the curry or different ingredients to...

A Curry and a Pizza

Advantages: Yummy
Disadvantages: None

...Recently I had made some Chicken and Pineapple kebabs for tea and was left with 1/2 a tin of pineapple rings in the fridge. The following day I was thinking what to do for tea using the Pineapple rings and as it was Saturday, it is normally curry night in the Paulpry cottage. My favourite from the local Indian Takeaway is a Chicken Balti Kaghani which is made from mint sauce, cream, pineapple and mushrooms, so with me being the adventurous type when it comes to cooking thought I would try to make it. I gave it a go and served it up to my husband without telling him what it was it it tasted nearly as good as the one from the Indian. This curry is a flavoursome curry with using cream and mint sauce. So here is the recipe. Serves Two 1 Onion chopped 18p 1 Chicken Breast per person cubed about £1.50 per Breast 2 fresh Green...
