ViaMichelin X970T
Advantages: Light, sexy, Music player. Hands free phone via Bluetooth
Disadvantages: Unreliable, impossible to use, always lets you down
...Very disappointed! I have the French map only version with the latest software Vs7. I brought it due to the full European life time license for live traffic information including major roads not just the motorways as some have. Unfortunately to receive this information you need to be connected to the car mount and have its external aerial connected. This makes forward planning an testing experience of hanging out a window with a damp finger against the contacts on the unit while trying to tune to a FM signal.
But back to basics. Version 7 was only released in the UK at end of October I seem to have a pre launch version . I contacted Via Michelin, not easy, and they have added a rushed French manual on line but its poor pictures and layout make it very difficult to use. it seems any changes to try and improve the poor performance...

Via Michelin for the Palm PDA
Advantages: Value for Money, quality of Maps and amount of POIs
Disadvantages: Some locations aren't available, can be unreliable
...Via Michelin Navigation Package for the Palm PDA
How I Came to Own this Product
I was going away to university after my summer break and I planned on taking my car with me, for the first time ever. Being a not very confident driver I was planning on writing and rewriting the directions. With my birthday coming up I was constantly being bothered with the one question that I dread; "what would you like?" This particular year I was completely out of ideas, I had a tv that worked fine, my hifi was still hanging on, my car stereo had just been fixed, there was no beauty products that I wanted and I had more clothes than I knew what to do with. It was my mum who suggested to me getting a Palm PDA. "But what would I do with it?" she pondered the question for a while before picking hers up and showing me; "it...

* Michelin man sat nav is - very good. . .
Advantages: Simple operation. Price.
Disadvantages: None found.
...ViaMichelin Navigation X-960 New Edition - Good time to buy.
I recently had a scare, when my trusty TomTom threw a wobbler, and I thought I would need to replace it, I had chance to look around, and remember looking at this particular model, mainly because it looked like my TomTom, I assume it was a copy. I am not saying this is a bad thing, let someone else decide what the customer wants and then provide just that.again, I am pleased to say my TomTom is in working order so I do not need to replace it, if and when I do however, I may well go for this model. At less than £90 it has to be a bargain. This is the cheapest price I could find brand new, so you could get a real good second hand bargain.
The basic idea is the same as most of these gizmos, there is a touchscreen, a mains or car charger, a USB lead for connecting to a PC...

A little help from the Michelin Man
Advantages: Quick, up to date, free, useful
Disadvantages: Som countries not completely covered
...route planning. If you would like it to save various things, such as maps, regular route plans and so on, you must register, again it's free. You can then make use of the "My ViaMichelin" option.
The site also has news and articles relating to travel which might be of use to you. There are also some downloads - a rally game, wallpaper and screensavers to do with Michelin.
All in all viamichelin.com has a lot of useful content, it's bang up-to-date, it's very quick to calculate routes, maps and so on - doesn't have too much distraction, is free, oh and available in four other languages. A worthy addition to your favourites!...

ViaMichelin X950, excellent value for money system
Advantages: Clear screen, accurate directions, good support from viamichelin website, slim and lightweight design.
Disadvantages: Battery only lasts 3 hrs.
...I purchased the ViaMichelin X-950 in January 2007 and continue to be impressed with its ease of use, clear, accurate display and navigation instructions.
So what's in the box....
The Windscreen Mount:
The mount is very sturdy and solid and is very easy to install either on the windscreen or on a flat surface of the dashboard. The device doesn't move or vibrate when driving, which is a big annoyance with some of the cheaper mounts.
Home Charger:
Unlike some GPS systems, this one comes complete with a home charger, so you can charge it up without going to your car.
Car Charger:
No big surprise here, keep this in your car to allow you to easily charge the device on the road.
USB Cable:
Connect to your PC to download patches, speed camera updates and add other POI's.
Software DVD:
Contains all the software you need...

* Hey, You look like the Michelin Man! . .
Advantages: Very good grip in all weather, especially in the wet.
Disadvantages: The cost and fact that they wear faster.
...Two French brothers called Edouard and Andre Michelin, owned a rubber factory. One day, a cyclist with a punctured pneumatic tyre arrived at their factory. This tyre was glued to the rim, and It took over 3 hours to remove it and repair the tyre, which then had to be left overnight to dry. The next day, they took the repaired bicycle into the yard for testing. After several hundred Meters, the repair failed. Despite this setback, they were still enthusiastic about this pneumatic tyre, and proceeded to made their, own, which didn't need glueing onto the rim.
In 1891, they took out the first patent for a removable pneumatic tyre. The rest as they say, is history.
I was lucky enough to buy a car with these fitted, and I can say the amount of grip is brilliant. They do cost more than most tyres, and the noise is slightly louder, but...

Michelin Tyres
Advantages: Well known brand
Disadvantages: Go out of shape.
...Over the years, I reckon I have had most makes and brands attached to my car.
From this I have been able to be more picky and choosey when buying my new tyres.
I now know whats good, whats bad and what is worth avoiding.
Michelin boast being one of the 2 tyre suppliers to the Formula 1 world championship.
Yet it fails to pass its lessons leared from the track to the consumer.
As much praise as people want to heap on the French Tyre giant, Michelin have always failed to meet my expectations.
I have had these tyres twice. Once through coming with my new car and once through buying them as a replacement.
When we had our new Ford Escort, it came with Michellin XT all around. 175/70/13's were the size we had.
Soon we were experiencing problems with ride quality, particularly under braking or at high speeds.
After several...

VIA CONDOTTI BARGAIN HUNTING
Advantages: Exclusive
Disadvantages: Expensive and pretentious
...Bargain hunting on Via Condotti? Surely that's a near impossibility. Why this is one of the most expen...oh, wait a minute, That should read BAR hunting. Much more sensible.
The most famous fashion streets in Rome are the three parallel streets that all run into Via del Corso - Via Condotti, Via Borgognona and Via Frattina.
And the most famous of these is Via Condotti, named after the channels that carried water to the nearby Agrippa thermal spa baths. But that's all water under the bridge now...as it were. These days, it's more about channelling hard cash into the fashion houses.
It all started back in 1905 when Bulgari (who never learned to spell apparently) was first to spot the trend of people who had almost as much money as they had fashion sense but considerably more than common sense. Bulgari can, I suppose, be considered...

Traveling Via Vias
Advantages: Lovely beach....the south of France, dahling
Disadvantages: Not much to do without a car
...If you want to bemuse a foreigner, send them to the bit of France from which I've just returned. Not satisfied with the usual 'one name per place' rule, you'll find references to the areas of Vias, Vias Plage and Vias sur Mer (on post cards, in brochures, on the internet) but, confusingly, only 2 different parts of town, the touristy end and the old French bit.
****** Travel
We drove Manchester to Liverpool, flew Liverpool to Nimes, taxied to Nimes town centre, caught a train to Agde and then taxied to Vias Plage. Travelling days were long - in excess of 8 hours - but if you live in other parts of the UK, or are happy to pay a little more for your flights you can reduce the trip quite significantly by flying to Montpellier and then grabbing a cab from there. We chose the fun long way round instead, and paid £100 each...

Michelin Energys
Advantages: Long lasting, brilliant grip
Disadvantages: None!
...Michelin Energy
A tyre designed to reduce running costs and respects the environment with these tyres on your car is said to use less fuel and last longer than other brands.
On a wet road they help make a shorter stopping distance making them a super safe tyre to have on your car.
These tyres are designed for, city cars, MPV and family cars.
These come as standard on my model of car so have been using this the 2 and a half years I have had it, I have found them to be a brilliant tyre, very long lasting and keeping grip right un-till the end of their lifespan. They also wear evenly so if you buy a set as long as none become damaged they should all be ready for being replaced at around the same time. They are not at all road noisy and do not pull the car around at all. They are very good in the wet maybe no as good as they are...
