Cough Medicine For Junkies
Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: None
...The title of this op has probably upset COVONIA and a few readers already but I stand by my statement. Benylin just has no effect on my colds anymore and since they brought out the non-drowsy formula it has quite frankly been pants. I had given up on cough medicine other than Calpol, and when I had a cold I resorted to Lemsip and whisky (Do not do this folk?s alcohol and paracetamol do not mix). It was a few years ago that a friend of mine gave me a swig from her bottle of Covonia Bronchial Balsam and I was amazed it reinvigorated my belief in cough medicine???.
Ok the instructions for Covonia Bronchial Balsam are:-
? Linctus containing in 5ml: Menthol 2.5mg, Dextromethorphan hydrobromide 7.5mg
? Symptomatic relief in non-productive coughs such as those associated with the common cold and bronchitis
? Adults: 10ml repeated after...

Vicks First Defence
Advantages: Gets rid of a cold
Disadvantages: Price
...Vicks First Defence is AMAZING! The only product to actually get rid of a cold. I have used this several times now and every time it has worked.
You're supposed to use it when you first feel the signs of a cold coming on, which you don't always know but I have used it mid way through a bad cold and it has cleared up. I've found I have had one bad day and then the next day my cold has dissappeared. It works by drawing the cold out of you quickly so you feel really lousy for a day but it's worth it so the cold doesn't drag on for days or even weeks!
Vicks First Defence makes no claim to cure colds, or to prevent them but it does claim to reduce the chance of developing a full blown cold by up to 50% if taken promptly at the first sign of symptoms and to cut symptoms by up to 40% but each time I have used it, it has worked better...

... VICKS VAPORUB
I thought I would write this review as I am using Vicks VapoRub at this specific moment in time, and with it been this time of year when alot of people get sniffles and nasty colds with the multitude of weather which is coming our way.
Vicks as a brand:
Vicks has been around since the late 19th century, and has stuck on our shelves since then, best known for the VapoRub product, they also have a HUGE product range, with their main products with Nyquil and Dayquil (for day and night use). All of their products are for use in relieving the symptoms of cold and flu, and they're a very trusted and well used brand.
The Product itself:
Vicks Vaporub comes in a small green box (you will find this in the medicine aisle in the Supermarket and behind the counter in shops like Spar and Co...

Vicks, great again!
Advantages: Excellent effective product, easy to use.
Disadvantages: Price varies greatly, so shop around.
...My lovely mother bought me this product during my last case of the flu, but it works especially well for just a simple blocked nose. She purchased the 50g pot for just under £2.50, which i think is a steal for how long it lasts!
Vaporub is produced by Vicks, a well known brand and already associated with other very good cold relieving products.
The vaporub can be used by children and adults, but i would suggest reading the instructions carefully before any applications.
The Vaporub can be either melted intohot water or simply rubbed into the chest and back, i have found that both of these methods work well, but i personally prefer melting 2 tablespoons into hot water, as it causes a little less mess!
Instructions for melting method:
-Melt 2 teaspoons of Vaporub into hot water
-Inhale medicated vapours for 10-15mins...

No effin cough!
Advantages: Effective and comforting and it works!
Disadvantages: A tad on the greasy side, so be careful of your nightwear...assuming you wear any!!
...anything for colds and the like, except maybe the odd soluble paracetamol, if staying at home is not an option. I prefer to let nature take its course. But paracetamol do absolutely nothing to impede this wracking cough that I had. The same one, that for some reason hardly bothers you throughout the day, but returns with a vengeance in the hours of darkness to torment you.
My husband swears by Vicks VapoRub, and up till now I have dismissed it as a waste of time, but desperate times call for desperate measures and when I was awoken on Monday night with said cough and a head that felt like it was being pounded with a sledgehammer each time I coughed I stumbled down the stairs to search for it in my medicine cupboard.
I opened the small squat turquoise topped plastic jar (used to be glass and taller when I was a child!) and my nose was...

No thanks Mr. Vicks
Advantages: portable inhalator
Disadvantages: no steam at all
...PRODUCT: Vicks Vaporub Inhalator
PRICE: £6.99
Winter is approaching and i thought it would be perfect to share my experience with this product. During this time of the year, most of us catch flu, cough and cold easily. And I really hate being unwell specially having a blocked nose, a nightmare even at your sleep that's why i usually take my vitamins C, but of course not everyone have a strong immune system to fight it. So i usually visit my local pharmacy to stock up something for winter season. I came acrossed with this box from Vicks. A very well presented Vicks Vaporub Inhalator which described as an easy and convenient way to enjoy soothing vicks vapours. It's also portable, has a leak resistant design and dishwasher safe so instantly I knew it would be useful to have.

George's Marvellous Medicine
Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review
...?George?s Marvellous Medicine? was the first of Roald Dahl?s stories which we read to our eldest son. It?s the story of a little boy who has a real stinker of a grandmother. She?s rude and scary and bosses him around all the time. One day George?s mum and dad have both gone out, leaving him alone with his Grandma. George has had enough of Grandma bullying him and so decides to cure her of her cantankerous behaviour with a special potion, which he?ll give her instead of her usual medicine.
He finds an enormous saucepan in the kitchen and lugs it all around the house, essentially putting in a bit of everything he finds [lipsticks and canary seed included!]. He even makes sure he adds some brown paint so that it is the same colour as Grandma?s real medicine! He then boils it up to make sure that everything?s nicely mixed together before...

Vexed without my Vicks!
Advantages: It works and it's cheap!
Disadvantages: Very addictive
...Vicks Sinex Decongestant Nasal Spray is a spray which you squirt up your nostrils to give "relief from a blocked nose". The spray is recommended as suitable for anyone aged over 6 years, although I wouldn't be too happy giving it to a child to use - it's the kind of thing a child might squirt up their nose every five minutes if they could and I don't think that would be very healthy! I've used the spray quite a lot of times and would recommend it, albeit with reservations.
The spray costs about £2.50 per 20ml bottle - the bottle doesn't state how many applications there are per bottle, but one bottle has seen me through several colds so I'd reckon that it probably contains several hundred squirts. According to the instructions you need to reuse every six to eight hours but on my experience the effects start to wear off within...

Carry On Coughing
Advantages: non- sedative
Disadvantages: The taste, not very effective
...I have been suffering from a very chesty cough; how I got it I have no idea, as none of my family had it! It was one of those coughs that you have which is a constant tickling in your throat, regardless of how much water you drink, and the kind that gives you coughing fits where you go red in the face, your eyes start watering and your partner makes you sleep in the spare room because they think you are putting it on for sympathy and you are keeping them awake!!
I am not one to run to the doctors so the day after my cough started I went to my local chemist and bought Beechams Veno's Expectorant for Chesty Coughs.
I picked up this cough medicine, 100 ml for £2.50, as Beechams is a well know brand and as they are the same people who make Lemsip, they must be Ok, but I was somewhat disappointed! Beechams Veno's comes in a blue...

My Vicks for sharing
Advantages: lets you breathe easy again
Disadvantages: dont get in the eyes
...Vicks vaporub has been around for over fifty years, I just bought my latest one from Tesco for £1.98 and in case you are interested, the reason you cannot eat it is because of the camphor it contains, as that is known to be poisonous.
The menthol and camphor help calm coughs, the eucalyptus helps relieve catarrh, and the eucalyptus as well as the menthol in Vicks relieve congestion. It is safe to use on children over the age of six months.
It comes in a green and white box containing a very dark blue squat tub holding 50 grams and has a lighter blue lid, and is really a form of aromatherapy, since it is essential oils and inhaled or massaged on the body, so if you have though of aromatherapy and decided no, you can think again now!!
It has a soft waxy creamy feel and is opaque and smells absolutely wonderful in my opinion. It...
