Viennese Treasure

Advantages: Architecture, museums, gardens
Disadvantages: Needs a lot of time to see everything

Orange & Viennese Sophisticated Snacks

...Being a student, it is a definite fact that I love to eat snacks instead of cook as I am kind of lazy. I do like to look for offers on biscuits and crisps so that I get to try a lot of new ones and the one that I most recently picked up were on McVities Moments. A while back I had tried these but the flavour I got this time was Chocolate & Orange Viennese Melt which sounded really good and I am a fan of anything that is chocolate orange. They look unusual on the box bur I will try anything chocolate and decided to buy these and see what they were like. McVities are run under a company called United Biscuits. They were founded in 1948 when two biscuit companies, McVitie being one of them merged together. As they went on they gained some more biscuit companies under their wing, expanding the company. Another sly fox is around again!

...Introduction For those of you that read my previous review on Fox's Chocolate Viennese biscuits, I went back (at a members suggestion, jesi) as I thought I might leave a packet or two in the cupboard. Well I noticed that the offer of BOGOF (Buy one get one free) also included the Fox's Chocolate and Orange Viennese biscuits. I took this offer at 99p for two packs via the offer from my local Co-op. The Product The packaging is nothing to get excited about and is much the same as the other pack except for the colourings being brown and orange to represent chocolate and orange flavour I presume! Again there is an good best before date on the packaging I bought this pack today 22nd February 2006 and I have until 14th October 2006 to eat them, I don't think they will be in the cupboard that long though...

Viennese answer to Fortnum and Mason

Advantages: good range of foods, not sold out as much as Fayed's hell hole
Disadvantages: not really the place to shop on a tight budget

...Until the Meinl Group was taken over by Corso Spar, in 2000, the word Meinl was synonymous with Coffee and quality food, with Meinl being the supermarket for the more refined shopper, who didn?t have to watch the Schilling and Groschen (now the Euro and cents!). The flagship store, located on the Graben, right in the city centre, remains and the store is the Viennese equivalent of say Fortnum & Mason or the Foodhall at Harvey Nicholls. Of course this does mean that there is a certain premium to be paid on specific items, but this is mainly due to the fact that they are not available elsewhere in town. However, the ostentatiousness of the place is nothing compared to the likes of Mr. Fayed?s Food Hall in that emporium of vulgarity, Harrods. Getting to Meinl am Graben is a synch. On foot it is about 200 metres from the Stephansdom...

Warning..Too much Whirling can make you feel sick

...A biscuit or a cake? That is the first most fundamental question that we must ask when considering a Viennese Whirl. Lets consider: Cake - soft, moist, usually comes with jam, cream, etc. Biscuit - usually firmer and more crunchier than cake, but comes in just as many varieties, often with cream or jam in between but the chocolate is usually to be found on the top of the biscuit. Quite obvious therefore, cake of course feels and looks softer than a biscuit, but when it comes to Mr Kiplings Viennese Whirls it all goes out of the window! Viennese Whirls come in packs of 6, the packets come in the usual red and orange, with a peek- a - boo window of the contents inside. There are some delectable, hearty looking specimens portrayed on the outside, lovely looking swirled, circular biscuits with a think layer of jam and cream...

take me to chocolate heaven

...During a frantic dash round Tesco?s yesterday I decided to treat myself to a bit of chocolate to much on as Chris had deserted me in favour of football down at the pub. As I wandered down Tesco?s extensive chocolate aisle I came across a selection of Thornton?s chocolates. I decided I deserved a treat and so I opted for an old favourite ? The continental Viennese Truffle bars. ------------------------- Packaging and Price ------------------------- I paid £1.49 in Tesco for a packet containing three 37 gram bars. Thornton?s usually sell the bars for 50 pence each though if you?re very lucky they may well be on a 3 for 2 offer. Thorntons also sell Continental Viennese truffles which is the same chocolate in smaller, bite sized form. This will set you back approximately £1.99 for a 125g bag. Obviously they taste the same but...

A luxury chocolate bar to waltz away your blues

Advantages: It's Chocolate!
Disadvantages: May not be such a good idea if you're on a diet!

...Whilst buying a magazine from Goodbuys Newsagents I spotted a bar of Thorntons Continental Viennese. I bought it on impulse as I hadn't tried one before and the picture of the bar on the label looked good. The wrapper description read "a white and milk chocolate bar with a chocolate and vanilla flavour butter truffle centre, sprinkled with fine sugar." Woo ooh, sounds good...it cost me 59p. If you want to skip the boring bit just scroll down to the 'Nitty Gritty' now...I wouldn't want you to go through the agonies that I went through all in the sake of reviewness! The chocolate bar's wrapper is a pale lilac colour from the left of the wrapper to approximately 3/4 of its length with Thorntons Continental Viennese written on it in a dark, peuce script. This is followed by a picture of two of the bars, one of them cut in half...

Pure Indulgence

...As you may have gathered from previous opinions, I’m a girl who likes her chocolate! Well, I have recently discovered another chocolate delicacy to add to my ever-growing list of treats. Thornton’s Viennese Continental. Now, I have had these before as part of a box of Thornton’s choccies, but the other day I was in Tesco (yes, Tesco!) when I spotted packs of Thornton’s chocolate bars. So I grabbed myself a pack and headed for the checkout. The outer wrapper was ripped off as I headed back to work and the first bar consumed as I walked up the hill. Heaven! I could have eaten the other 2 bars there and then but thought I better slow down a bit for the sake of my waistline! So the second bar was consumed yesterday and I am now sitting down with the third bar, ready to indulge in the wonderful silky...
