...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them.

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54
Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.
...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied.
On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

Sex with Viggo
Advantages: Good cast, strong performances
Disadvantages: Don't like alternative ending
...seems to have the perfect marriage to the equally wealthy Emily Bradford Taylor played by Gwyneth Paltrow, who works for United Nations. At first I had doubts over how believeable this marriage would seem, but the chemistry between the two leads actors makes for very believable performances, but that aside, it is the unmistakable chemistry betweeen the characters of Emily and David which really set the screen alight.
Emily is not happy with and has started an affair with a poor artist David Shaw (although we later discover that this is not his name), who is played by Viggo Mortensen, who seems to look remarkably different with each role he plays. She thinks that their affair is secret, but we soon discover that Steven knows all about the infidelity and is determined that he will exact his revenge, and we soon see that he is planning to...

He's not Viggo, he's Aragorn
Advantages: Quite a good story
Disadvantages: Inconsistencies, annoying son.
...I watched A History of Violence seeing on a website list of the top 20 mob movies of all time. I can't remember the website now but I have to say they obvioulsy didn't watch alot of Mob movies. They had The Sopranos on the list. It's not even a film.
The film starts off with two men leaving a motel, they both seem shift but calm and collected and it's only when one of them goes inside to fill up his water bottle that we see that they're not the nicest men in the world as there are the results of a small massacre inside.
The film then moves on to Tom Stall's (Viggo Mortensen) house and his daughter has just had a nightmare. Things all go a little Waltons as the entire family come in and start hugging each other like a bunch of freaks. Stall is the owner of a small cafe in town. His wife is a successful lawyer and his son...

Lord of the DVDs
Advantages: Better film, lots of extras

...particularly in battle scenes and most of Frodo and Sam's journey.
The story begins with a flashback to Gandulf's death fight with the Balrog, our heroes have been split into three parties: Pippin and Merry have been abducted by Uruks, Gimle, Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) are trying to save them, and Sam (Sean Astin)and Frodo (Elijah Wood) are making their way to Mordor. Meanwhile Saruman is gathering his armies and planning the overthrow of Rohan and Gondor.
So there are basically three threads to the story and it could have been a complete mess, luckily the acting and direction were excellent and the film's been skillfully cut together so that the whole thing works well, even though the it cuts between the three stories. Tolkien's story has key motifs of good v evil, nature v mechanisation and the sacrifices...

...My recent quest for FREE DVD hire I visited and many DVD web sites that offered a free trial. Now call me tight (no that wasn?t an invite), but I like bargains and freebies and am not ashamed to say so.
My quest took me to enough sites to hire DVDs for about four months so far (with plenty to come too). My latest free DVD site also happens to be the best I have tried for several reasons (see rest of op); the site in question is Blockbuster.co.uk.
Other sites that I have had free rentals from and then cancelled have all been similar, two weeks free trial with two DVD?s per time ? which in effect gives you about four free DVD?s. With Blockbuster?s things are different slightly ? which add a great deal of benefit to us the customer. ...Before I bought this DVD player Id never really owned a DVD player before. I had however had and still do have a ps2 on which I used to play my DVDs.
I never really went and still don’t go on this so much so I was going to sell it and buy a DVD player.
In the end I decided to just keep the ps2 and to get a cheaper DVD player than I was looking for in the first place.
The main reason why I wanted a new DVD instead of the one in the ps2 was so I could play divx format DVDs on it. The DVD player in a ps2 doesn’t recognise this format and scene as I have several divx movies already on disk and on my laptop to put onto disk then I wanted a DVD player that would recognise and play this format.
Another plus to this format is that it saves space on disks as it compresses movies into smaller file sizes without compromising...

DVDs for a fixed monthly fee...
Advantages: Simple, easy to use, quick delivery, good customer service
Disadvantages: May not have all the titles you are after
...I was using one of those sites that offer you points or a few cents for trying out free offers (don't recall which one exactly, may have been 'IPoints'...) and it had Lovefilm's FREE two week trial.
I signed up free for the minimal membership which allows you to keep one DVD at a time for as long as you want (with no late fees!) and although I had to give my credit card information, the agreement states that you will not be charged anything if you cancel within the two week period..
The membership ranges from £9 to £15 per month now; I do not recall how much it cost mid last year to be honest.. The other memberships get you 2 and 3 DVDs at a go.
I added the films I was interested in to some sort of 'wishlist'. The idea is that they send you one DVD, you keep it for as long as you want, then they send you the next one on your list...
