Sign Of The Times

Advantages: Suspense, Acting, Direction, Visuals - Terrific entertainment.
Disadvantages: None

...of an olympic athlete and the kids baby monitor tuning into a strange frequency where weird noises can be heard. Graham at first refuses to believe anything is going on and scalds his kids and brother Merrill who seem to be swept along with the 'goings-on' as seemingly does the whole town but gradually he realises through the 'Signs' that something is at work, something is going to happen, something is coming !! The thing that this film does particulary well is that it homes in on this family and this family alone thus creating a great relationship between audience and characters. Graham is a man suffering at the recent loss of his wife, killed in a road accident, we see his grief, we see his doubts and we see his broken heart. A particulary touching scene is when he is asked by his young daughter why he speaks to his late wife and her mother...

Vintage VRS100 - Blue

Advantages: The Wilkinson hardware. The playability. Good value.
Disadvantages: The blue finish hides the flamed maple veneer. Tone+Volume knobs. Serial number format.

...Vintage VRS100 Well first off I paid £150 for this. Ex-demo, so not new, not second hand, think in-between the two. This is a PRS copy and Vintage have pretty much nailed the body shape! It's a Double-cut. Vintage says the VRS means "Vintage Rock Series". The finish I chose for this guitar was the "through blue". A very dark blue finish on the front with a lighter greeny-blue on the back and neck. This finish is semi transparent (you can see the wood). Through blue is now a discontinued colour. For the body 3 pieces of Eastern poplar have been used. A bookmatched flamed maple veneer is glued on top. The top of the guitar is carved while the back is contoured for comfort. The neck is nice and chunky set neck and is made up of 2 pieces of maple with a 1 piece rosewood fingerboard. Upon the fretboard are 24 medium frets...

The button?s come in a pink box with a lovely pattern design on the box. On the flap to the side of the box it tells you that they researched old buttons from the 1700s, 1800s and early 1900s and became so absorbed that they decided to do their own collection. You get a total of 18 antique buttons in a box which are cast in 70% cocoa dark chocolate. The box is 100g and it cost?s £6.00. On the back of the box you will find a list of ingredients and their contact details as well as a picture of the buttons which you get inside the box as well. It also has a sell by date too, which isn?t until 15th Feb 2011, so these keep for a long...

Advantages: Very absorbing, suspenseful, Good performances
Disadvantages: The ending (somewhat anti-climactic and the visuals of the aliens), a bit too 'Hollywood' perhaps

Time of the Signs

Advantages: Nice performances, good sense of humour, genuinely creepy vibe
Disadvantages: May be a bit slow for some tastes, and THAT ending

...M. Night Shayamalan is carving himself a nice little niche as the world's finest purveyor of understated, Hitchcockian suspense. First reaching prominence with the mega-successful The Sixth Sense and following it up with the underrated superhero origin fable Unbreakable, Shayamalan's tales of ordinary folk caught up in extraordinary situations has seen the writer/director/actor's stock rise considerably in recent years. It has also, somewhat unfairly, seen him labelled as something of a "king of twist endings", but hopefully Signs will help peel that particular label off. Signs and Wonders

Advantages: Relatively intelligent, thought-provoking movie.
Disadvantages: It is nothing spectacular, acting isn't particularly breath-taking.

...Now who can forget the Sixth Sense? It's one of those movies that will forever stay etched in my memory, that's for sure, and I can remember the anticipation I felt when Signs was first released. Signs features Mel Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix and Rory Culkin (younger brother of Macauley, and don't pretend you can't remember Home Alone!) as the most notable cast members, and is about the story of the Hess family when earth is invaded by aliens. M. Night Shyamalan refrains from making this film into a replica of previous alien movies, and instead gives the whole piece a deeper meaning. Gibson plays the father of two small children (Graham). He used to be a reverend but lost his faith after the tragic death of his wife, and his brother (played by Phoenix) moved in with him to help him take care of the kids. Strange crop circles...
