...I was reading my guestbook when I noticed a note from lilkayb telling me to get writing, so here goes: ::::VISA ELECTRON CARD:::: I have had an account at Lloyds TSB since I was about eleven years old, this was then known as a Young Savers Account, When you get to 16, it changes to a Current Account. All I had to go with the account was a paying in book and a cashpoint card. When I was fifteen I damaged my Cashpoint card and requested a new one, a few days later I recieved a letter from the bank containing my new card, only it wasn't the card I'd wanted. They had sent me a cheque guarantee card, only problem was I didn't have a cheque book! I rang later that day to tell them what i'd requested and what i'd recieved, the lady on the phone was very helpful and assured that my cashpoint card would be through the post very shortly...

Ipoints Visa Card from Halifax Bank PLC

Advantages: World wide recogniion , good initial APR
Disadvantages: Charges on cheques ,paying in opions at present.

...Purchased online , without any problems , this card should also be available by asking from your local branch . Offering an initial low APR of 3.9% for 5 months , rising to a standard 17.9 % APR there after . The card itself took just over two weeks to arrive after acceptance - a little too long to wait without undue cause for worry . However it is virtually accepted anywhere , and no problems have been encounered in its use to date . An unusual feature was the inclusion of 5 cheques ,for use where a card cannot be used , eg transfer of balance from another C.C. or loan . There is however a 1.5% charge ( Maximum of £20.00 ) for their use , which spoils their novelty use. Ipoints are earned at a rate of 10 per £100 spend on the card ( excluding balance transfers ) , so collectors of these will welcome them . One bad point was...

...I applied for this card from the moneysupermarket website although it now appears that it is no longer available via that route - but keep your eyes open they pereiodically re-open their offers! There have been a lot of messages on the web about people applying for this particular product and not getting it and I would say that most of that confusion is due to Citibank themselves - maybe that's why it's no longer available because of all the problems that people have had.... Visa Electron - What a great card 4/3/06

Advantages: Reconised in nearly every high street shop, Can't get overdrawn

...What a brilliant card. It is mainly aimed at under 18s. This is a debit card and not a credit card. When I first got this card which was two years ago I went around the shops trying to use it. But there was a huge problem it was not highly recognized. When I went into big high street shops such as WH Smiths and Woolworth's they would not accept it. This was a huge blow. A big advantage of it though is that it can be used online. When I first got my card not many of the websites I used would allow me to use it. But now 90% of websites allow this card which is great as it is an easy way to pay for goods. Amazon.co.uk accepts this card and so do many others. Asset Platinum Visa

Advantages: Low APR, no annual fee, looks pretty
Disadvantages: No reward scheme

...Lloyds TSB recently issued me with one of their Asset Platinum cards. This came as quite a surprise to me as I only earn £15,000 a year, and was under the impression that a Platinum card holder had to earn a fair bit more, but having been a good customer for a number of years (and spending a small fortune each year with Lloyds on other financial products) welcomed the offer. Two weeks after applying, my shiny new Platinum card duly arrived, along with it's not unsubstantial £3,500 credit limit. So far it seems like a great piece of plastic - 3.9% APR on transfer balances and a very competitive APR on purchases. There's no annual fee, and, I must confess, it's a bit of a status symbol really. I can actually convince friends and clients I'm slightly minted as I have a Platinum card, when actually I don't earn a small fortune or drive...

Disadvantages: You could be encouraged to spend more than normal

Instead of the usual rubbish you get offered by credit card companies for every £2.00 you spend in any shop you get 1 Tesco loyalty point, For every £1.00 you spend in Tesco you get 1 loyalty point. It is a lovely surprise when you get your quarterly loyalty card account, to see how many more points you have earned just for using your credit card. These points can then go towards your weekly shopping or towards outings in Tesco's special offer booklet. Also, if you have a Delta or Switch card you can telephone Tesco personal finance to make a payment to your visa card. ...There are only two debit cards that I know of which are available to under 18's, one being Visa Electron and the other being Solo. I decided when I was 17 that I wanted a debit card, as they are so much easier than carrying cash around with me - and much safer too. My bank account at the time was with Lloyds TSB, but they could not offer me any type of debit card because of my age.
