Advantages: ease of use, excellent sound, good quality video in good light. Disadvantages: placing of control buttons, menu options, low light performance.
...I have owned the Sharp vl-pd3h camcorder for about a year now, mainly used for family BBQ's and the odd day trip out. (havn't caught any UFO's yet !!)
First impressions of the camera are of a good quality product, fits nicely in the hand. The main off, camera, vcr control button has to be "pressed" then rotated to the position you want.
The menu of options is very comprehensive, if a bit confusing at first. As with most things, "if you dont use it enough you tend to loose it "
Flip out the viewscreen, hit the record with thumb and your away. I've used the camera mostly on full auto mode (as most people will) but there are a range of manual overrides to correct certain lighting conditions, eg backlight compensation, and very bright conditions where the iris size can be reduced / or adjustable shutter speed can be selected. Camera shake...

...for another subscription to Mr Murdoch?s evil empire? You could do it the crude way and start laying down wires and drilling holes through walls and ceilings.
Thankfully, there is an alternative in the form of a video sender and in this case, the Philips VL1200 Wireless TV Link, a great little gadget to have which could save you money (minus the initial cost of buying), hassle and all those fights for the remote.
What is it?
=
The VL1200 or ?Wireless TV Link? as Philips markets it, comprises of two trendy silver boxes, which are almost identical to each other. One is a transmitter and the other is a receiver both with short aerials and they are distinguished by the amount of buttons on the front. The transmitter has 2 buttons on the right hand side, which allows you to select the input you want to transmit, and an on/off button...
Advantages: Comfortable to use, excellent output, packed with features Disadvantages: Dodgy menu buttons, below average battery life
...turn off the Digital Image Stabilisation for crystal clear shots.
- Purchase a decent camcorder bag to protect your investment.
- A huge stack of Mini DV tapes is also essential and so is the SD/Multimedia cards.
- Finally think about purchasing a iEEE1394 Firewire card and cable for your computer for real hardcore movie editing, there are a huge range in Currys, Comet, PC World, Dixons and other places on the internet.

CONCLUSION
All in all a camera well worth the money, it handles well and suffers only a few niggles but other than these I would definitely recommend to others? Should you require a better picture output however opt to spend a bit more cash and purchase the Sharp VL-Z8H ? essentially the same camcorder but with 1.33Megapixel output, I have upgraded...

Review of Sharp Viewcam VL-Z5H
Advantages: Relatively cheap, Hi-8, budget video camera Disadvantages: Only 16X zoom, now out of date hardware
...At the begining of 2003, I thought that I would buy myself a camcorder. I didn't want a brand spanking new one which would go the same way as my new PC (i.e. out of date before I took the wrapper off), so I went to my good old trusted friend, ebay, and looked for refurbished, cheap yet functional camcorders.
The Sharp Viewcam VL-AH131H was at the time not the newest kid on the block, nor the smallest, but it has done more than I wanted and for the price (a little over £150), it was a bargain.
My camcorder mostly sits on my desk, attached via the video out to my WinPC card within my PC, making it into a Webcam. Fantastic for showing all my imperfections in glorious detail or very very close up! Before spending hundreds of quid on an OK webcam, I'd suggest attaching your camcorder to your PC, as even the worst camcorder is better...
Advantages: Easy to use, good value Disadvantages: No case
...I've had a VL-Z1H for a month and can't fault it. At the price I paid (£249 from toys r us) it represents incredible value.
At first I thought the twist feature might be another useless gimmick but its very useful and allows comfortable fiming at any angle.
The camera is small enough to be carried in the palm of the hand all day. I've not tried filming using the view finder as the flip out screen can be seen bright sunlight with or without the backlight switched on.
You do need to get a firewire card to transfer video to your PC but at £12 including cable from ebuyer this isn't a problem, the camera is instantly identified by XP when connected. The manual is weak in this area and barely mentions linking to a PC.
The camera has a 10X optical zoom, 500X digital zoom (of little use), fade, various effects (sepia B&W etc), gain up...
Advantages: UDMA 66, Good build quality Disadvantages: 5200rpm spin speed, small cache
...If there's one hard drive company that knows how to hit the consumer hard, it's Maxtor. With a range of retail-packaged drives and the accent on value, the company has done well in the consumer sector, in the OEM and particularly the upgrade markets.
The new VL line is intended to strengthen that position, with VL standing for 'Value Line'. Considering that this product range features 10, 15 and 20GB capacities, with the top-of-the-range model coming in at a mere £149 including VAT, it's hard to argue with the name.
Maxtor is not known for being a high-performance drive manufacturer, but even so, the DiamondMax VL drives are not sluggish. The 5,400rpm spin speed is average for this end of the market, and there's a sub-10ms (just) access time, 512KB of SDRAM data buffer and a maximum potential throughput of 66MB/sec, based...
