Fun and funky Polo 1.4

Advantages: Great fun to drive, nippy and reliable
Disadvantages: Strange pedals!

...The Polo 1.4 was the first car that I ever bought myself so will always be quite special in a weird kind of way! I traded in my old battered Fiesta that my mum and dad had bought me and purchased a VW 1.4 Polo Match special edition for around £10000. The car came with quite a few extras for the money including manual air conditioning and an electric sunroof (very nifty gadget on such a small car!) I am not too sure why the car had both a sunroof and air conditioning though as you only really needed one or the other! It also came with metallic paint and I chose the Silver colour which was great as it hardly shows up any dirt at all and comes up very nicely when it's polished. I owned the 3 door version and you did have to be careful with the front doors as they are very big and heavy and can sometimes blow away in heavy wind...

VW Polo 1.4tdi 06 plate

Advantages: Reliable, stylish, economical
Disadvantages: none

...I have a VW Polo 1.4tdi 06 plate Its the best car I've had, economical, practical, stylish and nippy. The boot is not huge but can fit one large suitcase and two small at a squeeze so adequate for my family of four. A full tank of deisel ( around £40) will last me two to three weeks with the everyday school and work run and weekend local roaming around. We took it to Glasgow - around 360 miles from home with a full tank on leaving, it had just under 1/4 of a tank when we got there. When pulling away it drives more like a 1.6. and will sit very comfortably at 70mph on the motorway. It feels safe and comfortable to drive, and has excellent build quality ( so my husband says lol ). We've had no mechanical problems so far. It has cheap Tax and insurance. Servicing costs £45 to change the oil for its first service...

2006 VW POLO 1.4 Trendline with style packet

Advantages: Good allrounder, good handling, well built
Disadvantages: lack of equipment (unless paid for), low ground clearance

...small. We have a little baby and his pram won't fit into the boot unless the back seats folded down first. Once the pram is in, back seats can be returned to their original position. Fuel economy is as expected. No diffrent than the rivals. But the offical figures are a little bit on the conservative side. You will surely do burn more than stated in the owners manual. This is my fourth VW and I will probably continue using them for the forseable future. Previous ones included a Polo mk2, Golf mk2 and a 1967 Beetle. I ahe also driven a Passat TDi for work for a few years. If a VW designer is reading this: "In my view VW needs to put more extras in the cars, such as mp3 player, safety features, electric windows for the back as standart. They will make the good cars even more desirable must buys."...

VW Polo TDP 1.4 S 3 dr

Advantages: Air Con, Build Quality, Fuel Economy, Safety
Disadvantages: Service Costs

...This review is for the VW Polo 1.4 TDI S edition on the 52 plate. My experience of the car is that it was very reliable, well built, has excellent fuel economy around 50mpg and a good level of equipment for the class of car. The interior of the car is well made. The quality of the materials used is excellent. Instead of a plasticy looking dash the VW polo has a matt ruberised feel to the dash board and switches. Whereas the rest of the interior is finished in good quality materials. The use of grey materials is a bit excessive and in my opinion the quality of the seat materials could be a little more hardwearing but they are my only gripes with the cabin area. In terms of ride the car is pleasant to drive around town, very responsive, and not much cabin noise under 50mph. The car is very stable to drive with very little body...

OOOOOOH WHAT A POLO...........

Advantages: Very good quality
Disadvantages: Costly

...Before I start my opinion on the Volkswagen Polo, I would like just to let you know that I don’t actually own this car, but am very near to purchasing one. I have trawled through internet sites, opinions, magazines and company reps to gain the knowledge that I have; I hope it helps anyone interested in the Volkswagen Polo! The following in formation is based on the model that I am considering purchasing which is; A NEW (New number-plate) Polo 1.4 Match LOOKS The Volkswagen Polo is one of the better looking small car around; and by far the most grown-up and mature looking. It’s new front lights recently introduced both make the car look a little meaner, but overall make the car look far better than any other Polo before it. Alloy wheels and a rear wing available on any of the models, if you are willing to pay...

Is the VW Polo all it is cracked up to be?

Advantages: A Hidden Character
Disadvantages: Hidden Costs

...Firstly i do own a polo (1.4cl), as does my sister (1.0cl), we previously owned a golf (1.6cl). Clearly this may indicate a possible subjectivity to my views. However i will concede this car is not perfect in any right. We have had the cars for a few years now so we have a pretty good idea about how they handle, run, their quality and looks. Handling I have driven a few other similar cars all different makes but all similar engines and all hatch backs. I believe that the polo didnt handle as well as one or two of the others but is solid and you always know what the car is doing. The suspension is average witha a fair ride but a bit sloppy on corners. At any speed it does certainly have more grip than expected but probably not worth testing to find out anyway! Running As a car it has relatively high running costs for its class...

Polo 1.4 CL. A second hand dream!

Advantages: Reliable, Cheap to run, High Build Quality.
Disadvantages: Nothing I can think of!

...A few people have reported problems with their VW Polo, but I have had nothing but satisfaction from mine. I bought a second hand (1998 model) 1.4 CL about 12 months ago, and it has so far been everything you could ask of a small car in it's price range. The body work was, and still is in great condition. The engine always starts first time, and is very economical. For a car it's age the interior has hardly worn and the overall build quality is top-notch. The only thing I have had go wrong with it is a blown fuse for the 'Headlights on warning buzzer'! That took 2 minutes to replace. The ride is excellent compared to other cars in it's class such as the Clio, Saxo, 106 or Fiesta. Very smooth and pretty quiet even at very high speeds. While it's no 'GTI' there is enough acceleration to cope with most situations around town and I...

READ THIS BEFORE BUYING THE NEW MODEL VW POLO

Advantages: Looks good and quality feel
Disadvantages: Questionable Reliability

...I have been the unfortunate owner of a VW Polo 1.4 Sport since last September and feel the car buying public should be aware of the catalogue of disasters I have experienced over the last 11 months. One month in and the engine management warning light appears and disappears frequently. Dealer (Dovercourt, Bristol) inspect car and feel they have done all necessary work to resolve the problem. Throughout the following months, car returned to them on 3 occasions to resolve problem. At one point they advise they are unable to fix problem as they don?t have the correct CD? I thought spanners were used to fix cars not the latest Kylie release??!! Next the clutch fails and after giving the matter some thought, Dealer decides to replace master clutch cylinder but not before letting us have the car back with the defective clutch...

Polo, The car with no holes

Advantages: Performance, Fuel Economy, Specification
Disadvantages: None that I can see so far.

...Straight off, I should tell you I got a bargain. The car everyone dreams about, one lady owner.... no actually it was my dad's car. He'd had it from new, bought from the local dealers in Cardiff in October 1997, a nice shiny blue R plater. He's just bought a new car, so the polo was destined for the classified ads in the local paper. I just jokingly said, so how much do you want, five grand came the reply, and that was that. The car is a 1997(R) Polo 1.4 CL. It is pretty much from what I understand the standard 1.4 CL, apart from the extra pearlescent paint which cost a few hundred more. The build quality is beyond belief, everything about it says quality. That satisfying clunk when you shut the door, the gentle, almost non existant whirr of the fan when you have the blower on, everything is either gentle or satisfyingly...

VW MK5 Polo GTI 2000 - 2001

Advantages: Small, nice to drive, nippy
Disadvantages: expensive to buy, hard to find, poor gearboxes

...Mirrors Electric Windows Air conditioning was standard on the 2000 model and later replaced with climate control from 2001 onwards It comes with a thatcham Approved Category 2 Manufacturers fitted alarm. The GTi is a 1.6 16v Engine, producing 125 bhp. It differs from the mk4 16v engine, as it has Variable Valve Timing. Variable valve timing advances the valve timing at higher revs to enhance performance. There are a few known problems with these cars that are quite common and i wish i had known about these before i borught the car. The gearbox bearings on this particular model tend to wear out ever so quickly. VW made a really poor design on this one and not many Polo GTI's will last more than 70,000 miles before the bearings break up. Not a cheap reapair. My poor Polo is on its third gearbox in the seven years it has been...
