Owning a Volvo S80
Advantages: Extremely well built reliable and comfortable vehicle
Disadvantages: Very low to the ground and can be thirsty on fuel
...The Volvo S80 is the Volvo flagship and inherits the build quality and reliability that Volvo is renown for. The smooth six-cylinder engine is quiet and reliable but if pushed can be thirsty with less than 18 mpg. Its not a BMW 528 and so you cant throw the S80 around in the same manner; but on the other hand its built with so many safety features you are at least safe and extremely comfortable. Its capable of 145 mph where the plod turn a blind eye and at 100 mph your passengers will never guess your going that fast!
Volvo servicing is excellent and the agents tend to ?look? after you like no other dealers, but again don?t expect cheap prices this is a £30,000+ car and when it does need parts, they wont be cheap!
Comfort is the big thing with this car, the moment you sink into the leather interior and adjusting the seat...

Volvo S50 D5 SE
Advantages: Nice Design, Great Comfort, Reliable, Economical
Disadvantages: High Insurance Group
...This is the 2.4 Litre, 5 Cylinder (Diesel) Volvo S60
My Dad owns this car but i borrowed it for a few days when i needed a car to drive around in.
I only took out a temporary insurance deal with norwich union which, for 2 weeks, cost me £71.40 which is expensive, but i only needed it for 2 weeks and i wasnt going to pay £4k for a years cover (just because im 18)
The boot space is good and is plenty for shopping, or luggage, although if you carry equipment around which is bulky, you may have a problem, because being a saloon, the boot opening is fairly small.
Although the engine has 163 Bhp which dosent sound a lot for a car this size when you see cars like my mates Renault Clio having 197 Bhp, but the car squeezes every last drop of power and the clio is no match on acceleration or top speed.
The handling round corners is...

The Volvo S60 Diesel SE
Advantages: Volvo , Great looks, Great Drive, Great Car
Disadvantages: None I Can think of
...I Took delivery of this car on the 13th Dec 2002. The car was spotless. It is a black S60 model SE.
I work as a senior ambulance officer. The car was then taken to our Ambulance Workshops. It was then fitted with Blue Lights behind the Grill Alternating Headlights that flash, rear blue and red strobes on the rear shelf and a magnetic blue lamp for the roof. It was also fitted with a hands free VHF radio and a VDO Dayton Sat Nav system. The reason for the fititng of the sat nav was that the volvo option was £3000 and the VDO was £1200. This was quite a saving so it was decided that it would be better . Finally the car was fitted with a 100 watt siren . The switched were fitted neatly below the heating controls.
The car its self also has electronic seats with memory. The seats are leather and heated. The car has automatic transmission...

New Volvo S40 2.0D SE
Advantages: Low Price for Premium Badge, Styling, Build Quality, Handling
Disadvantages: Lack of cubby space, Boot too shallow
...shut with a solid clunk, infact everything feels nicely screwed together.
Safety is synonymous with the Volvo name and needless to say it is superb. The S40 scored a maximum five stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests, and the SE model comes with Dual Stage Driver & Passenger Airbags, Side Impact Protection System (SIPS), SIPS Airbags, Inflatable Curtain, Whiplash Protection System for the Front Seats, ABS, EBD and Dynamic Stability & Traction Control ! - Phew !! That's a mouthful !
A neat feature I particurlarly like is the personal attack alarm featured in the key fob, press the red triangular button and the cars alarm blares away deterring any would-be attackers. Also the coming home lights are another neat feature.
So all in all plenty of positives, on the downside however I am disappointed with the lack of storage space in my S40...

V70 D5 SE, my 6th. Volvo.
Advantages: Comfortable, easy to drive, economical on long runs, spacious.
Disadvantages: Dealer service cost high, turning lock not as good as 240,700 &800 series
...I bought a 3 yr. old V70 D5 SE to replace my petrol engined 850 SE 2.5 10v. which was 12 yrs.old.Impressions as follows: comfort greatly improved, turning circle not as good-but can be lived with.Acceleration from start off is not quite the same, but once you are rolling it is superbly torquey, making overtaking easy. After 3 years of trying to make the 850 more economical I could get an average of 31.5 mpg. on a 1,300 m. trip to & around Scotland. This D5 163 hp V70 is currently averaging 54mpg for similar driving!! - enough said. Performance is more than adequate- if I wanted a sports car I would have got one ! Servicing is less frequent than with the 850, and so far I can only say it does everything I want very well-- would I go back to the petrol powered 850,.....NEVER!!..........................Ivan H....

Volvo V50 Sportswagon - A drivers car
Advantages: Fast effortless drive, stylish, surprisingly roomy cargo space
Disadvantages: Bit small for 5 people, hard suspension
...I acquired my Volvo V50 Sportswagon 2.0lt diesel in June of 2005 so at the time of writing this have been driving it for 6 months and have travelled about 9000 miles.
It's probably worth noting that prior to this I had been driving a SEAT Alhambra 7 seater so was used to excellent visibility and acres of room inside. A change of job and family down sizing gave the opportunity for a change.
I find the driving position to be generally comfortable and; easily and variously adjustable (I'm 6ft tall so need a reasonable amount of leg room). However, I have an occasionally recurring back problem so still use a lumbar roll as a rule.
The clock is digital and inside the drivers instrument area, which is an irritation for watchless passengers (I'm told!!). Other than that I find the instruments easy to read. The messaging system is...

Volvo V50 Sportwagon 2.0DS
Advantages: Looks, Ride, Handling, Perfomance
Disadvantages: Controls, Safety
...has really got it really wrong controls wise. Dangerously so in my opinion (I'm an Advanced Driver, and used to drive 40-50000 miles per year - no convictions or accidents to date in over 25years, so I feel reasonably confident in my assessment).
For day to day practical load lugging - this car is not too brilliant either, mostly because Volvo can't be bothered to change the rear seat arrangements for RH drive versions. The lack of door pockets (microscopic in the front, and none at all in the back) is poor too.
For image and external design they have got that right, and it?s a delight to drive handling and performance wise- just don't knock the indicator or use the radio! Oh, and I'm getting 50mpg in urban traffic to and from work everyday.
So in summary, if you're looking for traditional Volvo values, forget it. If you want...

dream car
Advantages: extras you can get
Disadvantages: there isnt any maybe the price to some people
...volvo best known for its safety but well known for the ugly box like shape but now things have changed the s80 is far from box like its shape its just stunning to look at i bought the w reg moondust met and people are constantly coming up to me and admiring the car i must admit one of the reasons i bought it is because of its looks.
this kind of car is usually bought by the business man mostly because of its price but im not a business man just part of a family with 3 children which is also one of the reasons i choose the s80 its a little bit wider than your adverage car so perfect for 2 children but still the lots of boot space for the luggage that comes with a family.
the car is a dream to drive very smooth it even drives by its self on cruise control if you want it to you just steer and the trip computer is a must it tells you how...

Good - but not the best Volvo S60
Advantages: Style, performance, comfort, good economy for performance, well built
Disadvantages: Not S60 prime model
...privileged guests, pretty much able to test drive anything on the market today. In previous years I have tried several Volvos, all in fact diesels, S80's and S60's with manual or automatic transmissions. The S60 D5 will be subject of a dedicated review as I have many more hundreds of miles experience with that to tell you about!
Last year dished up the ideal weather conditions in which to try that most reassuring of marques Volvo! The rain lashed down and there were force 6 side winds blowing. For me these are absolutely the best conditions in which to thoroughly test any car, if you like it in truly rotten weather conditions then you are not going to dislike it when the sun shines!
Before arriving we had actually made a conscious decision not to drive an S60 at Millbrook this year. Having chosen the S60 D5 as a replacement for my four...

volvo 850
Advantages: Loads of boot space, loads of extras and excellent safety
Disadvantages: Repairs can cost, Relatively low MPG (25mpg)
...Volvo's...square,ugly old peoples cars.
Well no. The 850 released in about 1994 was part of the big image change for volvo and was the first step in the V70 evolution. T
The basic car an 850SE 20v was better than most of its opponents and was cheap. The 850 is built like a brick but fortunately doesnt look like one as much as the older Volvos. Some may say that it looks like a slab but what do you expect from a big estate car with the legendary huge volvo boot?.
The 850 carries Volvo's reputation for being tremendously safe cars, and now with airbags in the front and between the 3inch thick doors and comfy seats, this is no exeption. The base model does about 125mph at a respectable 10.4secs or if you buy the T5 or R version, you will be burning off those sportscars, as they reach 60 in under 7 seconds. The interior is not bad...
