1999 Volvo V70
Advantages: Swift, Well Made, Indestructable
Disadvantages: depreciation, service costs
...The Volvo V70 estate was brought into the market by Volvo to replace its ageing 850 range. The 1997-2000 V70's boast several exterior improvements over the 850 including reshaped front and side lights, and body coloured bumpers and door handles.
We bought our 1999 V70 for about £13,000, though expect to pay up to 5 grand more if you decide to buy through a dealer or specialist.
The car is a 2.5L Turbo Diesel, and was our first diesel car. We were surprised at the acceleration of the car, and even though it sounds like a van when your in traffic, it has a nice 'howl' when you put the pedal to the metal. Official Volvo stats record the V70 TD getting to 60 in around 8.5 seconds. The car does a little under 40mpg on the motorway, and a little under 35mph when accelerating heavily in towns or in traffic. There is also a lack...

Volvo V70 D5 - Very well built, spacious, safe, packed with toys.
Advantages: Build quality, safety features, Comfort, Spacious, Rapid fold-down seats, luxury at good price
Disadvantages: Manourverability, large turning circle
...a gentle hum of a more smooth refined engine, that you dont notice after a while.
Quality is visually apparent in the V70 with all fixings being solid construction and well finished with that bit extra that makes the difference to a good car. Doors close with little effort and with a reasurring solid clunk which protrays the solid design.
The V70 comes with generous finish as standard, if the budget allows go for the SE version which has leather finish and lots of gadgets and upgrades to the equipment for a just little bit more. If you really want luxury then have the luxury hide finish which also provides more cusioning on the seats to give the best quality seats in any vehicle of it's class and beyond.
Needless to say being Volvo there is plenty of safety features, with traction control, ABS, side impact protection, and passenger air...

Better than a Volvo V70.....
Advantages: Looks, Call Clarity, Coolness
Disadvantages: Aerial, additional bits...
...drooling at me?or was it the phone? Don?t answer that!!!
So onto the boring bit normally of the features of the phone and technical stuff?.
The size of the phone is comparable with all smaller phones with dimensions of 94 x 38 x 18.3mm. It fits in the pocket easily?
With the weight being a nice low 83 grams you can?t complain.
I?ve found talk time to be around over 2 hours and standby with the supplied battery to be around 4 days I would imagine as I talk all the time on the phone.
It is only a Dual Band phone which is where it beats my old V66 and it operates on the GSM 900 and GSM 1800 type airwaves.
You can have 16 Western European Languages or 11 Eastern Languages with Asian Support displayed instead of English.
You have a battery indicator, time and date, signal strength on screen as standard but it does have...

V70 D5 SE, my 6th. Volvo.
Advantages: Comfortable, easy to drive, economical on long runs, spacious.
Disadvantages: Dealer service cost high, turning lock not as good as 240,700 &800 series
...I bought a 3 yr. old V70 D5 SE to replace my petrol engined 850 SE 2.5 10v. which was 12 yrs.old.Impressions as follows: comfort greatly improved, turning circle not as good-but can be lived with.Acceleration from start off is not quite the same, but once you are rolling it is superbly torquey, making overtaking easy. After 3 years of trying to make the 850 more economical I could get an average of 31.5 mpg. on a 1,300 m. trip to & around Scotland. This D5 163 hp V70 is currently averaging 54mpg for similar driving!! - enough said. Performance is more than adequate- if I wanted a sports car I would have got one ! Servicing is less frequent than with the 850, and so far I can only say it does everything I want very well-- would I go back to the petrol powered 850,.....NEVER!!..........................Ivan H....

V70 D5, nice in theory but ....
Advantages: Good looking, comfortable front seats
Disadvantages: Bad build quality, too mnay recurrent faults, D5 engine not as good as reputation suggest
...I originally posted this review under the Volvo V70 2.5D by mistake. I have updated the report too.
The car is a 2004 (2005 MY) Volvo V70 D5 S. The D5 is a 2.4 litre "common rail" diesel and the S spec has cloth seats, climate control, fuel computer, and a single CD / FM Radio (which at least has LW for the cricket). Mine has a very light interior (they call it Oak) and the dashboard causes a lot of stray reflections on the windscreen - not good for night driving.
The V70 is a nice looking car but it does not have the robust build and quality of finish that have been associated with Volvo in the past. It is also not the supreme load carrier that Volvos once were - you get a much bigger load space with a Mondeo.
My V70 has proved to be a very disappointing car with numerous days (24 in 6 months) spent off of the road and too many...

Big old thing!!!
Advantages: Nice fresh outlook
Disadvantages: Volvo tank!!!
...ensure correct fitting every time you install Junior.
Volvo has revised its engine line-up in recent years and offers five five-cylinder motors for the latest V70. A light pressure turbocharged 2.4-litre 200bhp engine should be popular while the flagship sporting T5 model gets a mighty 2.3-litre fully turbocharged powerplant punching out 250bhp. Conventional 140bhp and 170bhp petrol engines are also available along with a 140bhp, 2.5-litre turbodiesel. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard. You can also order a conventional five-speed automatic or the S80's Geartronic autobox which offers the choice of full automatic or clutchless manual driving.
As ever, the model line-up is vast. S and SE trim levels are an alternative to 'base' on most models and there's a long list of factory-fitted options and dealer-installed accessories. If you...

V70 D5 SE - expensive to run but comfy seats
Advantages: load capacity, seats, stereo
Disadvantages: expensive servicing and runnimg costs
...This review is for the car with SE specification trim which adds full leather seats, upgraded stereo and possibly a few more bits.
I bought this as a 3 yr old car to replace my volvo T4 which was getting a bit old.
I'd always liked the look of this model and decided to go for a diesel as economy should be better without too great a loss in performance.
If you want comy and supportive seats then you need look no further than this, the seats are truly superb. I guess that's one of the reasons so many police forces have these cars on traffic.
The upgrade dolby pro logic stereo is good if you sit in the front but for rear seat passengers sound is truly appalling, far too much bass and voice is difficult to pick out.
As for performance, it is a bit sluggish pulling away but mid range, say 40 to 70 mph it just flies. It makes...

Is it a Rolls? Is it a BMW? No it's super Volvo..
Advantages: Performance, flat load area, quietness, looks
Disadvantages: Turning circle
...I can't admit to owning a Rolls, but I have owned a 7 series BMW and a Jaguar and I have to say that the Volvo V70 T5 beats them both hands down. (maybe not in sheer speed, but taking everything into consideration it is by far the best)
Well that's my opinion.
Practicality, safety and performance are the three things the V70 T5 does well. 90% of the British traffic police can't be wrong.
It's not the most economical car in the world, but I like the fact that if you want to save fuel you can just drive it carefully. A lot of high performance cars are gas guzzlers how-EVER you drive them. With the V70 T5 the power is hiding until you hit around RPM then it's like you've been kicked in the back.
I've owned 4 & 5 litre cars in the past and I can honestly say the V70 drives like one of those. It's only a 2.3litre engine but when...

And it's not even bad to look at!
Advantages: spacious, powerfull and comfortable yet still 'without a badge'
Disadvantages: Becomin accustom to living in it.
...2.4 litres of Sweedish muscle combined with a low-pressure turbo makes even the automatic sound sporty as it pulls away in the snow from the blond bikini clad party girls after a late night at the Stockholm Savoy.
The Facts
- 2.4L I5, 20 - Valve,
- 6000 Horsepower
- 20 mpg / 26 mpg
- 5 Speed Automatic
- Ground Clearance 5.3
- Height 57.7
- Length 185.4
The Drive
The Volvo V70 is a quite literally a thrill to drive. The driving position is commnanding as you are elevated significantly from the hustle and bustle around you on a slightly bucketed seat with thermal 'bottom warmer pads' inset in the lining. Whilst a manual is favoured by drivers for the control over the power you can exert, the joy of this automatic is that there is so much power to fall back on which is effectively and instantaneously...

Tecknet v70, smooth,funky music machine
Advantages: great sound, nice look, easy to use, great price
Disadvantages: none i can find yet
...and bought me a very funky looking mp3/4 player. It?s about 5 inches in length, 2cms depth and roughly 2inches wide so you can probably tell it?s very slim line an small, ideal for tucking away discreetly anywhere. Mine is white in colour but it does also come in black (hubby also has one for fathers day will explain more after!).
The name of it is TeckNet V70 1.8" Screen 1G MP4/MP3 Player With 1.8" LCD Screen and Build in FM, we purchased both of them one white and one black with an extra set of earphones from www.amazon.co.uk for the amazing price of £52.95 this included the shipping of £11.97 so I think that this is remarkably cheap for what we received. The order came through within 3 days of payment so I can recommend the delivery times of Amazon. I have regularly used them and have always found them to be very quick in delivery. One word...
