1999 Volvo V70

Advantages: Swift, Well Made, Indestructable
Disadvantages: depreciation, service costs

...The Volvo V70 estate was brought into the market by Volvo to replace its ageing 850 range. The 1997-2000 V70's boast several exterior improvements over the 850 including reshaped front and side lights, and body coloured bumpers and door handles. We bought our 1999 V70 for about £13,000, though expect to pay up to 5 grand more if you decide to buy through a dealer or specialist. The car is a 2.5L Turbo Diesel, and was our first diesel car. We were surprised at the acceleration of the car, and even though it sounds like a van when your in traffic, it has a nice 'howl' when you put the pedal to the metal. Official Volvo stats record the V70 TD getting to 60 in around 8.5 seconds. The car does a little under 40mpg on the motorway, and a little under 35mph when accelerating heavily in towns or in traffic. There is also a lack...

Volvo V70 D5 - Very well built, spacious, safe, packed with toys.

Advantages: Build quality, safety features, Comfort, Spacious, Rapid fold-down seats, luxury at good price
Disadvantages: Manourverability, large turning circle

...The V70 D5 is a very spacious car indeed. You can fit a family of five in the car with ease, still leaving a massive boot space for the biggest of suitcases and childrens artilery. With a flick of a button the rear seats are folded away rapidly to leave a perfectly flat luggage area large enough to fit a double matress. It is even possible to carry 3meter long items such as copper pipe and still close the rear tailgate. The choice of diesel is no loss on the petrol versions, the performance being near equal with 185Bhp output, and fuel economy delivering over 50mpg on stretches of dual carriageway or motorways. Put the accellerator to the floor and you will cruise past most other cars with ease making overtaking manouvers safe. The D5 engine does sound noisey when cold, but after a few minutes this dies away and settles down to...

Better than a Volvo V70.....

Advantages: Looks, Call Clarity, Coolness
Disadvantages: Aerial, additional bits...

...Not being a follower of fashion I seem to be at the front of it now, pushing the boundary forward, that?s how it is since I bought a nice shiny new Motorola V70 last week and the number of people I?ve heard saying ?oohhh? since is unbelievable and the better half hasn?t complained either. I bought my phone via Cyren-Communications.co.uk which is on a previous Op if you fancy a look. The Motorola V70 was released in the UK on the Orange network in April this year, yes only a few months back? True it only cost me £10 on a £25 per month mobile tariff with Orange, but I would shop around as I?m sure the prices fluctuate as much as the reliability of the Scottish weather. If you really want to you could pay around £100 in the shops for the phone without looking around. Or buy it for £420 without any contract. With my V70 I...

V70 D5 SE, my 6th. Volvo.

Advantages: Comfortable, easy to drive, economical on long runs, spacious.
Disadvantages: Dealer service cost high, turning lock not as good as 240,700 &800 series

...I bought a 3 yr. old V70 D5 SE to replace my petrol engined 850 SE 2.5 10v. which was 12 yrs.old.Impressions as follows: comfort greatly improved, turning circle not as good-but can be lived with.Acceleration from start off is not quite the same, but once you are rolling it is superbly torquey, making overtaking easy. After 3 years of trying to make the 850 more economical I could get an average of 31.5 mpg. on a 1,300 m. trip to & around Scotland. This D5 163 hp V70 is currently averaging 54mpg for similar driving!! - enough said. Performance is more than adequate- if I wanted a sports car I would have got one ! Servicing is less frequent than with the 850, and so far I can only say it does everything I want very well-- would I go back to the petrol powered 850,.....NEVER!!..........................Ivan H....

V70 D5, nice in theory but ....

Advantages: Good looking, comfortable front seats
Disadvantages: Bad build quality, too mnay recurrent faults, D5 engine not as good as reputation suggest

...I originally posted this review under the Volvo V70 2.5D by mistake. I have updated the report too. The car is a 2004 (2005 MY) Volvo V70 D5 S. The D5 is a 2.4 litre "common rail" diesel and the S spec has cloth seats, climate control, fuel computer, and a single CD / FM Radio (which at least has LW for the cricket). Mine has a very light interior (they call it Oak) and the dashboard causes a lot of stray reflections on the windscreen - not good for night driving. The V70 is a nice looking car but it does not have the robust build and quality of finish that have been associated with Volvo in the past. It is also not the supreme load carrier that Volvos once were - you get a much bigger load space with a Mondeo. My V70 has proved to be a very disappointing car with numerous days (24 in 6 months) spent off of the road and too many...

Apple MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.5 GHz - 17" TFT

Advantages: nice screen, good battery life, fast specs
Disadvantages: large size (price?)

...Apple mac-books, where to start... ok, so to start, it is an apple, that means you get a solid quality product and on the whole very good customer are. this particualar apple is deffinatly more suited to being a media center than other laptops. At first glance you realise that it is a fairly large laptop, this allows for a big screen, which being an apple ffers clear vivid displays, unfortunatly the big screen increases the overal size and also uses more battery, however, the 4.5 hour yattery is still very good for an entertainment laptop. The laptops technical specs include a very fast 2.5 ghz dual core proccesor which is very fast, the dual core allows it to tackle multiple tasks quicly as well as increasing the overall speed of the laptop. The price is quite steep however, but i believe, if given the money, it is...

V70 D5 SE - expensive to run but comfy seats

Advantages: load capacity, seats, stereo
Disadvantages: expensive servicing and runnimg costs

...This review is for the car with SE specification trim which adds full leather seats, upgraded stereo and possibly a few more bits. I bought this as a 3 yr old car to replace my volvo T4 which was getting a bit old. I'd always liked the look of this model and decided to go for a diesel as economy should be better without too great a loss in performance. If you want comy and supportive seats then you need look no further than this, the seats are truly superb. I guess that's one of the reasons so many police forces have these cars on traffic. The upgrade dolby pro logic stereo is good if you sit in the front but for rear seat passengers sound is truly appalling, far too much bass and voice is difficult to pick out. As for performance, it is a bit sluggish pulling away but mid range, say 40 to 70 mph it just flies. It makes...

Is it a Rolls? Is it a BMW? No it's super Volvo..

Advantages: Performance, flat load area, quietness, looks
Disadvantages: Turning circle

...I can't admit to owning a Rolls, but I have owned a 7 series BMW and a Jaguar and I have to say that the Volvo V70 T5 beats them both hands down. (maybe not in sheer speed, but taking everything into consideration it is by far the best) Well that's my opinion. Practicality, safety and performance are the three things the V70 T5 does well. 90% of the British traffic police can't be wrong. It's not the most economical car in the world, but I like the fact that if you want to save fuel you can just drive it carefully. A lot of high performance cars are gas guzzlers how-EVER you drive them. With the V70 T5 the power is hiding until you hit around RPM then it's like you've been kicked in the back. I've owned 4 & 5 litre cars in the past and I can honestly say the V70 drives like one of those. It's only a 2.3litre engine but when...

Safest car around.

Advantages: safety first,excellent road handling,responsive.
Disadvantages: width, wide turning circle, seat belt non adjustable.

...VOLVO V70 D5 2.5litre SE.2002model This is a superb all round family car.Loads of boot space.Heat/air controls for rear seats.Plenty of cup holders/9v sockets for games/personal stereos etc.Sub woofer pleases the teenagers.Extremely comfortable on long journeys.Heated seats are a real treat in winter.Quick clearing of icy windscreen.Always starts first time.Loads of legroom.Very economical being deisel.Superb road handling/holding.Hot braking system-DSTC does its job well.Great acceleration, never a problem overtaking.Super safety features-loads of airbags-that work! Two family members were hit head on by drunk driver & they walked away from this car with minor bruises. Will always buy Volvo from now on. Width I've only found a problem down country lanes.Parking & 3 point turns can be a bit tedious as long wheelbase prevents slick...

Fantastic load lugger

Advantages: Space, comfortable driving position and fuel economy
Disadvantages: Wide turning circle

...Our second V70 (03/2003 2.4 D5 SE) is not likely to be our last. Volvo's reliability and good after sales service befits the premium brand. The car is supremely comfortable, bags of space and we're never stuck for room lugging golf clubs, dog, baby stuff, etc. Performance is good on the diesel - a definite improvement from the old one (was a 2000 V 2.5 D which was an old Audi A6 engine in fact); much quieter and very gutsy. Best performance is overtaking from 50mph onwards. The automatic does affect fuel economy a bit, but averaging 35-40 mpg and it's a combination of motorway/A road driving. The one detraction is the turning circle is worse than on the old model but this is only a nuisance really in tight car parks. Servicing is £300-ish but no probs yet with the car, as you would expect from such a workhorse. Despite us...
