Dell Vostro 1700: the dark horse of notebooks

Nice laptop, FAB extended warranty!

Advantages: Good specs, fast, wonderful extended warranties
Disadvantages: Feels a bit flimsy, no indicator lights showing wifi connection, etc.

Dell Inspiron 1545 - good entry level laptop

...The Dell Inspiron 1545 is an easy to use entry level laptop. Unlike two years ago when I bought my previous laptop, you can now get a number of Dell computers (of which this is one) direct from high street retailers. This is good if you want it in a rush and want a nearby place to handle any issues, but has the disadvantage that you can't customise your laptop to your own requirements to the same extent that you can if you buy it direct from Dell (which takes several weeks). Because Dell are so good at allowing customisation, you need to be very careful when you buy that you actually get the one you need - they are not all the same, so you can't just go into a shop and say "Give me your Inspiron 1545" - you need to be sure that it e.g. has a suitable processor, enough memory and a big enough hard drive for your needs. The dell inspiron laptop is it a good buy!

Advantages: The look of the dell inspiron laptop seems more classy then other notepads. It is simplistic.
Disadvantages: Maybe Dell Have gone too simplistic with this model as the features are nothing to rave about

...The Dell inspiron laptop has an attractive classy look, it has a simplistic stream-line look. When I take it out its case I feel good about it because its not a big bulky embarassing computer thing. However, if your one for keeping everything clean and tidy and no smudges anywhere, then maybe you might be irritated by this laptop. With its glossy look smudges, smears and fingerprints stand out like a sore thumb. You feel like your constantly wiping it. You also have to watch what you wipe the laptop with as it is quite easy to scratch. A better idea for Dell would be to provide a cloth to clean it with, one they know wont damage your laptop. It would be a real bummer to scratch it while cleaning it. I also decided to get the colour black because there wasnt a lot of colours to choose from which I found quite dissapointing as...

Advantages: Cheap and well spec'd

...of Dell laptops always seem to be getting better. I made the decision to buy. The snag I found was this Dell Vostro 1000 was a range that is only available to business customers. This wasn't really a major problem, as I could just buy it as a business. Purchasing as a business has a drawback, but it also has a pro point. The drawback to buying as a business is that the distance selling regulations only apply to consumers, so you cannot send it back within 7 days if you change your mind. The pro point is that the laptops tend to have less rubbish installed on them, than their equivalent consumer models. The Dell Vostro 1000

...I bought the Dell Vostro 1000 for starting a Degree last september. The Vostro 1000 is marketed at businesses and as such is installed with Windows Vista Business. The laptop came with 2GB of RAM which is ample to run vista comfortably. The fact that the laptop is marketed for businesses has made no difference to me. In fact it has probably helped me with my degreee as it doesn't come with all the extra unnecessary rubbish that others do (e.g. solitaire, hearts etc)! The Vostro has been able to handle everything I have thrown at it; every game I have installed, the microsoft ultimate 2007 package, etc. The Dell Vostro 1000 is amazing quality for money and I would thoroughly recommend it, expecially for anyone on a limited budget. The battery once charged does not last for ages but it is not too bad at all; as with most laptops...

All you'd want from a business class laptop

Advantages: Fast, good value for money, robust, professional looking, quiet
Disadvantages: battery life isn't the best, 2 hours.

...The most important thing to me in a business class laptop is speed and value for money, because no matter how much I want to get myself a top of the line computer price is always what counts. I snatched up the vostro 1720 in a dell sale, with the free TPM module and Wifi upgrade. So it was a delightful saving for me and gave me an extremely powerful machine. With 4gb of ram and a dual core processor I haven't had a single time where the computer couldn't handle having publisher, excel, word and powerpoint open at the same time. The graphics card handles some basic CAD files I'm sent from time to time without an issue, and excel calculates things really quickly I must say. The machine is quite heavy though and unless you have a very comfortable carry bag it may be a bit uncomfortable. However, the high resolution screen makes me want...

...This Laptop is a good value for it's money's worth. Equipped with a Intel Duo chip going at 2.0 Ghz speed, this laptop also has the advantage of 1 Giga Ddram (expandable up to 4 Giga DDRAM), a large 17" screen, a 150 Gigabytes Samsung HDD (it is also equipped with internal space for an additional HDD). It's a very light device, not as heavy as most of his class. As for the video board, it uses a 512 MB ATI video board, making it possible to see movies decently, if You are connected to the electrical power (battery lasts only 3 hours maximum). All in all, if You are not a gamer and do not require maximum visual performance, this device is one of the best of its type and I definitely would recommand it to all friends....
