Honda Civic Sport 1.6 V-tec, 3 door.
Advantages: Mans Car, Fast, Very Stylish, Economical
Disadvantages: Repairs,
...My boyfriend bought this car in June 2006 (it was 1 year old at this point). He pays almost £900 for insurance with Arnold Clark (whom he bought it from - he was aged 22 at the time). That's fully comp, and includes business class 1 terms, so for his first car and own insurance policy (no other drivers), I think it's not too bad (insurance group 6). Elephant.co.uk have offered him a quote of almost £650 with 1 years no claims. Again, not too bad.
I drive the car on occasion. It's maybe a bit slow off the mark (it can feel as though the gear grinds between 1st and 2nd), however, other than that it goes through the gears with ease. You can feel the power of the engine when the V-tec kicks in, at around 60 mph. The car has good fuel consumption. My boyfriend uses his car every day for work, quite a lot at weekends too, and he uses £35...

VTEC fun!
Advantages: VTEC Engine, Brakes, Handling, Safety, reliability
Disadvantages: Poor seat adjustment, road noise,
...The Civic Type R is an out and out drivers car, happiest in a lower gear with the revs high and the engines growling. The power of the 2 litre VTEC engine doesn't really kick in till it reaches 6000 rpm, but when in most cars your dipping the clutch and changing gear, the Type R just keeps rocketing towards the horizon!
The car is set up to be driven positively, feel the car grip the road as you push it a little harder, that said it's comforatable enough being driven more conservatively, but give it an open road and you can hear it chuckle!
Level of comfort is basic, air con isn't standard, the seats lack the extra adjustments many oth cars in this clas would have, but they#re supportive and firm. All round visibility is great and the Type R is one of the strongest and safest in it's class should things go horribl wrong. Rear...

Honda civic 1.6 sport - a good buy.
Advantages: Looks, reliability, performance, economy
Disadvantages: some little niggles (see text)
...,500 miles which cost me around £120.00 from a dealer (most of this is labour charges). Nothing to report from the first service - just the usual oil change and the like. A courtesy car is easily available from your Honda dealer if required - all you pay is for insurance cover on the car. Over the last 9 months I've had to top the engine up a good few times with oil - the VTEC engine is known to be more thirsty than other engines but not overly so - just keep your eye on the oil level.
The 1.6 VTEC engine is strong and the exhaust emits a nice note when your pushing it that bit harder. Otherwise, the car is quite in normal driving conditions. While on the top of the range Type R the VTEC 'kick' is much more pronounced, power delivery in the sport is much more progressive and as such, the VTEC kick is absent. The 1.6 is a quick car though...

A very civil Civic
Advantages: Value, comfort, well-equipped
Disadvantages: Not a drivers car.
...on the clock. Brand new, a 1.6 VTEC SE auto will set you back a nifty £12,255, with bottom feeder 1.4 E manual leaving you £2,860 richer at £9,395 and the rip-roaring 2.0 i-VTEC Type R is defintely only for those that can afford the £15,340 price tag and the subsequent oversize novelty cheque from the insurance boys.
So 1.6 is safely middle of the road, and that pretty much sums up this car. I like cars to have a bit of grunt, and whilst the engine isn't that big, it certaily has grunt. Yes, putting your foot down creates a huge amount of noise and absolutely nothing happens. But if you wait, and wait, and wait a bit longer, you suddenly find yourself eyeballing the car behind and your neck three inches longer than it used to be. It's like turbo-lag, only without the turbo. In fact the first few times this happened, I had to check behind me to...

CIVIC TYPE-R - CHAV'S CHARIOT or MODERN HOT HATCH?
Advantages: Performance. Brakes. Gearchange. Seats. Space.
Disadvantages: Visibility. Ride. Materials. Insurance Cost.
...- and feels it! The 2.0 non-turbocharged engine has the most advanced version of Honda?s VTEC system. I am not going to go into great detail here in order to explain how this works, but in driving the car you feel a massive change in personality as 5,400rpm is passed and the car flies up to the red-line which is at a heady 8,000rpm.
On the road, if you stay blow 5,400rpm, you will wonder what all the fuss is about. The engine does not develop very impressive torque, which will leave you changing gear frequently in order to keep up with ordinary traffic speeds. Press the accelerator harder though and once the VTEC comes into play ? you?ll know it from the dramatic change in engine sound ? and you need to keep your wits about you in order not to tail-end the car in front??
??or flip the car into someone?s attic!

The power really is a dream
Advantages: Small and very nippy
Disadvantages: the boot could be a bit bigger
...I recently purchased a brand new honda civic as a second car mainly for my wife to use, this was after great research. In my opinion, the car is everything we need. With Honda's renouned reliability for engine assembly i decided to go for it. From a very nippy 1.6 vtec engine to a spacious back seat area its a great little car. The interesting thing about this car is that the channel running from the gear box to the back seat you find in most cars isnt on this one, and suprisingly creates a massive area of space. Any Honda drivers will know that the gear shift on this car is actually on the dashboard and it doesnt look or feel out of place after sitting in the car for a short while. The dash board is quite a nice feature also. The dials are backlit and so can be a really soft glow to a dazzling illuminous orange colour, this can be...

This is the best car i've ever had.
Advantages: Good engine, reliability and nearly sporty
Disadvantages: suposidly succums to rust (but no evidence yet)
...I have the EX model (thats not listed here)
The Civic has comfortable seats in both front and back. Both seats are the perfect mix of strong and soft. The rear seat, though supportive, is very tight, legroom is scarce and three people often complain (I just tell them I won’t take them again!). The front sunscreen blocks visibility slightly for me, but I am quite tall (about 6’ 2”).
The Civic's ride is a little bit choppy, but it's fun and almost sporty. Plenty of noise enters the cabin, but you can still talk at normal levels and be heard.
The car is fun to drive. The VTEC Four provides peppy performance without a compromise in fuel economy. (I averaged 53 mpg in mixed driving.) It also provides precise, quick steering and powerful braking.
The Civic’s boot isn't huge, but it's not very small, either...

makes a little too much sense!
Advantages: Space, performance, easy to drive
Disadvantages: I Drive it too much!!
...i bought my Civic five door 1.6 SE about two months ago and ive already done over 4000 miles!
Its been perfect, my only gripe is that because it is so good i drive it all the time, i end up filling it up every 4 days! costing me £40 a time!
but saying that i get around 380 miles to a tank which is better than i would expect given how easy it is to get over excited with it,
Now, because hondas VTEC system makes you want to race around everywhere, because all the power is high up the rev range, (like 5000rpm high!) getting anywhere fast without revving is difficult, but its quick when you do, much quicker than most 1.6's ive driven and a few 1.8 cars ive driven like the focus, so no complaints there then.
Driving is easy too, having electric power steering it is eerily light compared to my previous car. all pedals are light and well...
