..."Don't even attempt to understand time travel- it's just not scientifically possible." Those were the words of a wise friend of mine shortly after completing The Terminator marathon near the end of our University days. Having just finished watching Deja Vu for the first time, literally five mins ago, I attempted to apply this philosophy... and failed, miserably. So, equipped with a bottle of Lucozade, I shall be up all night attempting to piece together all these thoughts concerning what actually just happened in Tony Scott's confusing, but wonderfully entertaining, "Science-Fiction" movie.
Things begin when agent Doug Carlin (the consistantly brilliant Denzel Washington) arrives at the scene of an exploded ferry boat- the work of a terrorist. The body of the apparent victim Claire Kuchever (Paula Patton) is found, and Carlin has...

Review of Deja Vu (DVD)
Advantages: Suspenseful, great special effects. Disadvantages: Complicated
...Déjà vu is a science fiction film that was released 22nd November 2006. It did amazingly well at the box office, grossing an estimated $180,557,550 at the box office on a budget of $75,000,000. The film is rated 12 & runs for approximately 126 minutes. Déjà vu received mixed reviews.
Déjà vu is the masterpiece from the superstar team of Tony Scott & Jerry Bruckheimer. Tony Scott being, the younger brother Of Ridley Scott has directed many amazing films including: The Last Boy Scout, Top Gun, True Romance & one of my favourite Will Smith films Enemy Of The State. Jerry Bruckheimer is the producer of this film, he?s just as accomplished as Tony Scott and has worked on films including: Confessions Of A Shopaholic, Pirates Of The Caribbean, Black Hawk Down, Enemy Of The State, Coyote Ugly & Con Air. With two such accomplished film makers...

Review of Deja Vu (DVD)
Advantages: SOME INTERESTING TWISTS Disadvantages: QUITE PREDICTABLE IN PARTS
...Deja Vu is a entertaining light scifi film about having the chance to go back and change the past.
The film opens with the explosion of a ferry which has just left the Canal Street Pier in New Orleans. Doug Carlin (Denzyl Washington) is the ATF-New Orleans and is called in to investigate this accident when his partner Larry, who should be covering the investigation goes missing.
Doug's job is to confirm whether or not this is just a normal accident. He does a bit of searching around and locates evidence to prove that a device was used to cause the explosion.
Doug prove's himself to be a very skilled investigator finding clues that even the FBI haven't detected yet, which brings him to the notice of Jack McCreadie (Val Kilmer) who is the special FBI agent placed in charge of the investigation.
Also during this time a woman...

Review of Deja Vu (DVD)
Advantages: amazing vocals, wonderful harmonies, thought provoking lyrics Disadvantages: one song is slightly dated, but still fun as a trivia piece
...concert. (Of course, several more albums were released without Neil Young.)
But let?s take a look at this particular album - Déjà vu - and find out what it is that makes it so special.
The album starts out with the song ?Carry On?, and what a song to start with. The harmonies in the chorus to the simple, but hopeful words /Carry on/Love is coming/Love is coming to us all/ pull the listener in, and do, indeed carry us into the song and on to listen more.
The next track is probably one of their most famous songs - ?Teach Your Children?, and the one that probably influenced my life (as well as the lives of many others) more than any single song ever written. This song, written during the Vietnam war era, became a banner for many who grew up and out of those eclectic and fascinating times. The melody to this song could hardly be called...
Advantages: A decent basic concept Disadvantages: Doesn't stretch the acting talent on display
...Denzel Washington is a fine actor and I'm hard pushed to think of a film he's been in that I haven't enjoyed. But back in 2006, he didn't really stretch himself. His two major films that year involved him playing a calm, laid back officer of the law, which seemed to fit his personality very well. To his credit, he was selected for the role by a couple of major directors and the first of his two films, "Inside Man", was a decent idea for a film, even if the role didn't stretch Washington himself as an actor. So, what of the other one, "Déjà Vu"?
Once again, the idea is a really intriguing one. A huge explosion destroys a New Orleans ferry, full of US Navy sailors and their families celebrating Mardi Gras. In the absence of his partner, ATF agent Doug Carlin is called in to investigate. Shortly afterwards, the body of a young woman...

Review of Deja Vu (DVD)
Advantages: A very atmospheric film Disadvantages: NONE
...Déjà vu is one of the best and most atmospheric films I have seen in a very long time.
When a ferry explodes in New Orleans causing horrific destruction and casualty numbers surpassing the 500 mark ATF Doug Carlin begins to investigate the crime, which is believed to be a terrorist attack. In the mean time a young women is washed up on the shore, with injuries that suggest she was caught up in the ferry blast. The only problem is that the estimate time of death places her as dead before the explosion, furthermore she had earlier that day rang contacted the FBI.
Carlin's intuitive instinct leads him to being asked to join a team of FBI agents who have the technology to be able to look into the past, 4½ days in the past to be precise and using this piece of technology they aim to follow this woman's life and find out hoe she got...

Review of Deja Vu (DVD)
Advantages: Denzel Washington, Special effects are amazing, Decent Story Disadvantages: Science of it all is dodgy, couple of characters could have been better
...I'd seen the adverts for Déjà Vu a couple of months ago and although I wasn't too sure about it I decided to head off to the cinema on Friday night and give it ago. I've quite liked all of Denzel Washington's films and for that reason I assumed that I'd at least find this to be a half decent movie. So not too sure what to expect from the team that brought us Top Gun, Enemy Of The State and Days Of Thunder. Of course the combination of Bruckheimer and Tony Scott seemed to suggest this would be a film worth seeing.
Denzel takes the lead role of Doug Carlin, an ATF agent working in New Orleans when he's brought in to investigate an explosion on a Ferry killing the majority of the Crew from the USS Nimitz. At the same time a young woman's body washes up down town and Carlin assumes that the two cases are related. After some investigation...

Review of Deja Vu (DVD)
Advantages: Great fast moving action movie Disadvantages: Maybe slightly confusing in parts
...IDenzel Washington teams up with director Tony Scott again for Deja Vu (Previous film Man On Fire). He stars in this movie as Doug Carlin a police agent with the ATF.
A ferry filled with navy crew & their families explodes at the very beginning of the film, killing over 543 people. Doug is on the scene immediately trying to find clues as to why this has occurred. Val Kilmer plays FBI Agent Paul Pryzwarra leader of a new unit which has been set up. Deciding that they like and trust Doug they decide to let him in on the new technology they have developed.
Using the technology they hope that they can solve the case. It allows them to look anywhere within a set distance at events that were happening exactly 4 days and 6 hours ago. However, they can only look at 1 place at a time and can't rewind. So they need to be looking at the right...
