Polo 1.4 CL. A second hand dream!

Advantages: Reliable, Cheap to run, High Build Quality.
Disadvantages: Nothing I can think of!

...A few people have reported problems with their VW Polo, but I have had nothing but satisfaction from mine. I bought a second hand (1998 model) 1.4 CL about 12 months ago, and it has so far been everything you could ask of a small car in it's price range. The body work was, and still is in great condition. The engine always starts first time, and is very economical. For a car it's age the interior has hardly worn and the overall build quality is top-notch. The only thing I have had go wrong with it is a blown fuse for the 'Headlights on warning buzzer'! That took 2 minutes to replace. The ride is excellent compared to other cars in it's class such as the Clio, Saxo, 106 or Fiesta. Very smooth and pretty quiet even at very high speeds. While it's no 'GTI' there is enough acceleration to cope with most situations around town and I...

VW MK5 Polo GTI 2000 - 2001

Advantages: Small, nice to drive, nippy
Disadvantages: expensive to buy, hard to find, poor gearboxes

...Mirrors Electric Windows Air conditioning was standard on the 2000 model and later replaced with climate control from 2001 onwards It comes with a thatcham Approved Category 2 Manufacturers fitted alarm. The GTi is a 1.6 16v Engine, producing 125 bhp. It differs from the mk4 16v engine, as it has Variable Valve Timing. Variable valve timing advances the valve timing at higher revs to enhance performance. There are a few known problems with these cars that are quite common and i wish i had known about these before i borught the car. The gearbox bearings on this particular model tend to wear out ever so quickly. VW made a really poor design on this one and not many Polo GTI's will last more than 70,000 miles before the bearings break up. Not a cheap reapair. My poor Polo is on its third gearbox in the seven years it has been...

VW Polo Going green

Advantages: Fantastic fuel economy, low CO2 emmissions.
Disadvantages: No spare wheel, awkward to adjust front seats.

...I've now had my VW Polo Bluemotion 2 5 door for 4 months, have done over 5,000 miles in it and I'm loving it. The Bluemotion is VW's eco-friendly range, the Polo was the first of their range to be introduced, but the other main vehicles in the range will/have followed. It is a company car and I had a choice from a limited range of vehicles. I chose this one as it was the most economically one for my circumstances. VW claim it will do a combined 70.6mpg and 88.1mpg Extra Urban. I drive it mainly on the motorway and regularly get 83mpg out of it, and around 550-600 miles on a tank, which is costing me around the £40 to fill up from empty. Equipment All Polo BlueMotion models are fitted ? as standard ? with anti-lock braking, front and side airbags, power steering, electric front and rear windows, electrically...

VW Polo GTi as a 2nd hand Car

Advantages: Nippy for a small engine size, good handling, good build quality, tons of equipment!
Disadvantages: Gearbox bearings can wear between 60 and 80k, pedal box recall, bbs alloys corrode easily.

...for sale which are missing the xenon headlight washers. This could be due to a front impact or could mean the car has not always been a GTI. An HPI check should show up anything like this. Check that both electric windows are in working order and that the rear washer and headlight washers all spray sufficiently. Please note that if the washer tank has less than 1ltr of fluid left, the headlight washers will not operate. Other pointers: The heated wing mirrors will operate when the rear screen heater button is pressed. The fuel tank does not have a locking cap, instead the fuel flap locks with the central locking. Lastly I feel that I should give my opinion on the car now that I have given you all the facts. I have owned this car for 8 months now and have loved every minute of it. The car is quick for a 1.6 16v, VW managed to...

Volkswagen VW Polo Mk5 6n2 1.0E (00-02)

Advantages: Build quality, styling, interior space, reliability.
Disadvantages: Price

...I wrote a review about this vehicle on this very website in 2004. Now I'm a bit older with a fair bit more vehicle experience I thought I would re write the article. As with any VW you pretty much know what you're going to get. They are solid, reliable, well built, comfortable and generally expensive compared to similar vehicles in the same class. However they also have low depreciation so any likely initial expendature will be made back when you sell the vehicle. I will focus this review on the 1.0E in this range however, you also have availible the S and the SE models which encorporate various extras such as Elec windows/air con etc. If you were interested in purchasing this polo I would highly reccomend buying an S or an SE version as the very limited spec on the E can become tiresome after a while. Looks: As with anything, this...

VW Polo 1.0- Don't expect to much

Advantages: Nice looking car
Disadvantages: To many problems

...I bought this car because I could afford it, the insurance is cheap (1.0 litre engine) and it looks really nice. I got it in white, but of course there is any colour you want available. If you can afford it. Of course I could not afford a new one, so I got a second hand VW from a dealer for £5100. It looked new and did not seem to have any major problems, plus a 6 month warrantee. Features: The VW Polo I got came with a CD player/radio, ABS, power steering (adjustable steering wheel). It?s a 1 litre and goes about 97mph. The petrol usage is quite low, so this a good reason to buy this car. Probably about the only one, apart from its cute looks and nice interior. Feature which would be nice, but are not available: Unfortunately it does not come with central locking, alarm or electric windows. Pretty annoying I would say. Well...

Is the VW Polo all it is cracked up to be?

Advantages: A Hidden Character
Disadvantages: Hidden Costs

...Firstly i do own a polo (1.4cl), as does my sister (1.0cl), we previously owned a golf (1.6cl). Clearly this may indicate a possible subjectivity to my views. However i will concede this car is not perfect in any right. We have had the cars for a few years now so we have a pretty good idea about how they handle, run, their quality and looks. Handling I have driven a few other similar cars all different makes but all similar engines and all hatch backs. I believe that the polo didnt handle as well as one or two of the others but is solid and you always know what the car is doing. The suspension is average witha a fair ride but a bit sloppy on corners. At any speed it does certainly have more grip than expected but probably not worth testing to find out anyway! Running As a car it has relatively high running costs for its class...

VW Polo 1.9 S SDi

Advantages: Comfort and safety
Disadvantages: no CD Player!

...felt safer in the Polo - I'm not sure why?! But I felt the Lupo would be lost on the motorway doing motorway speeds and doing around a 100 miles a day. The Golf was too big for me, and with big comes price...too expensive, insurance too! So I was happy with the VW Polo diesel, so it was a decision between 1.4 and 1.9. I was told by a firend that whilst the 1.4 was very good with fuel efficiency, the 1.9 would be more comfortable doing the miles that I do. There was a choice between the E and S model. The E is entry level spec, basics. The S is the higher spec model with electric windows, electric heated mirrors, Climate control, anti hijack locking system etc. I was lucky to find a reasonably priced VW Polo 1.9 S SDi within my price range with good mileage. I have only had it a week but learning a lot about it already. I didnt...

Review on VW Polo 1.0

Advantages: It's A VW - Should Be Reliable! Looks Nice & Stylish.
Disadvantages: It Keeps Braking :(

.... The petrol cosumption is excellent; it lasts ages. However, it lacked electric windows, alarm and central locking, which is annoying. I?m insured with Privilege as fully comp and first driver (without no claims bonus), costing me £1,900 in the first year. Ouch, but surely it would be more expensive with a larger sized engine car. The Polo is only a 1.0 litre for goodness sack. Still expensive. And the expenses don't stop there! All right, I got the airbag warning sign and ABS faulty sign keep coming up on the dashboard. So I took it to a VW garage. Overall, it cost over £1500 to fix the darn problems. After diagnosing the car several times, they still couldn?t find what was wrong with it. They tried re-setting the systems various times, replacing the sensors, re-wiring connections, and still the lights on the dash board showed. In the end...

My Polo 1.0

Advantages: It's a great little city/town/country car. Its fabulously economic.
Disadvantages: No power steering on this particular model.

...So here it is, I passed my driving test about three years ago and growing up in a town where cruising was the real thing to do, I needed to get something that could stand up to all the Corsa's and 106's that seemed to plague me anytime I left the house. But as it goes, my entire family are VW enthusiasts and it was obviously going to be something from Volkswagen that I would take much pride in calling my first car. I began with a Mark 2 Golf Driver. It was nippy, clean, honestly, absolutely rust free, beautiful little car. But it had problems way beyond my pocket and so I moved on. My dad brought me home a little 1.3 1995 purple Polo. I'll admit it, as sad as it sounds, it was love at first sight, but with Pedro, my name for it, it was never meant to be, he came to a sticky end after I skidded on oil one morning on my way to...
