...I run a dog grooming parlour, so feel qualified to post on this subject. I found Wahl clippers to be nicely small, but very heavy. Design is poor - to hold comfortably, your had covers the ventilation slots. This means you either suffer hand ache or rapidly heating blades. Add to that the fact that the attachable combs (flimsy, flexible things) will fall off the unit at the slightest hint of a knot, and you have a recipe for burnt skin on your dog. They come with a tiny tube of blade lube - covered in warnings to keep away from the skin. Also with a woefully inadequate little brush to flick hair out of the blades. This shouldnt happen in a clipper. To my mind its a fire hazard for a start. The clipper is a nice compact size, however, its weight ruins this one plus. ...Not sure if this is the exact model Wahl but its probably near enough. I have used a variety of hair clippers over the years but once i had my hair trimmed by a wahl-well there was no turning back, compared to others i used wahls have always done a bril job and never broke down in mid job like others i have used. I decided to buy one due to their look, reliability along with the fact every barber id been to used one form of wahl or another. I paid £35, and have more than made that money back in savings on hair cuts. DIY is the way to go. The product is easy to use and comes with a variety of blades to get different affects plus the all important instructions to get you on the road to being a barber(home style) which are easy to pick up to. maintenance is easy also. ...This was a purchase borne out of deparation as my regular dog-groomer retired and I just didn't have the time or skills to handstrip my two Border Terriers.The dogs are well loved pets, not show dogs who are always hand-stripped. Having been an animal lover all my life I was delighted when Pets at Home first landed here in the UK back in 1991 (after the demise of the PetsMart stores throughout the country). The store practically has everything any pet owner could ever need. They stock all necessary (and luxury) items for out canine, feline, feathered, furry and fishy friends. Many stores also used to stock items for our reptilian friends but Pets at Home appear to have ceased this throughout the UK some years back. So whether you're after/have already got a dog, cat, bird, rodent or fish, you're sure to find what you want in a Pets at Home store. ...Ok I have 2 cats and have a history of owning cats. None of them were ever insured. I used to think that if my parents didn't insure our pets then I don't need to insure mine now I'm older...after all my parents are, I assumed, great with money. My attitude changed a year ago when friend of mine experienced a tradegy with her cat. Her cat developed a illness, can't for the life of me remember what it was, which had a sudden onset and resulted in death within weeks. What made her loss worse was the vet bills she had. In my naiivety I didn't realise that ir can cost you to have a pet put down at the vets! But then its not something I often think about. ...Having read through the other opinions posted about Pets at Home, I can see that people are very satisfied with the store in general and therefore I am hopeful that the incidents I have experienced of poor customer service are just isolated cases. I can see for myself that Pets at Home cares for the animals on sale in its store very well, which is why it is unfortunate that I have to bring up a few faux pas (or possibly fur paws…sorry, I know that was totally unnecessary but this is going to be a fairly serious op so I wanted to get it out of my system early.) that have left me without the new guinea pig I had intended to buy this week, but with a sickly guinea pig and some recently abandoned hamsters that I hadn’t really bargained for… Before I continue I want to make it clear that my concerns are with customer service I have... ...We have recently moved to a new area and decided to pay our local Pets At Home store in Cannock a visit. We knew that the store was 'Pet Friendly' so we decided to take our Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Bruiser along too. The idea of taking your pet in with you really appealed to me but I suppose thats just because I like showing everyone how lovely my dog is! Before I go on to describe the wealth of products that this retail outlet stock, I would like to praise their thoughtfulness when it comes to animals. The store seem to promote the need for planning and thinking hard before you commit yourself to a pet. Pet owners know what a major responsibility having a pet is but those considering an animal will find plenty of advice within this store. They supply free leaflets on having a puppy, kitten, rabbit and even goldfish... Read review

...Pets at Home is a chain of very large self-service pet superstores with an enormous range of very good products. Among the items on sale are quite a few unusual pet products, a lot of which are designed to be presents for pets, as well as the normal pet items that you would expect in any pet store. There are a number of pets for sale (not self-service), but these are mostly the small pets such as rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice and gerbils. There are also a variety of birds and some fish. What is really pleasing to see is that all of the animals are kept in really immaculate conditions. My youngest son was pleased as he could actually stroke the rabbits.
