Not dumb and you don't have to wait very long

Advantages: Generous portions of food served at generous prices, good ambience and situation in the heart of the North Laine
Disadvantages: Not so good if you don't like listening to techno music

...The Dumb Waiter is situated on Sydney Street part of Brighton's trendy quarter the North Laine. It looks cheap and cheerful from the outside and the welcome you get is equally so. The decor is quite basic, consisting of wooden seats and tables. There is an upstairs room with an activity room, a garden and some tables and chairs outside at the front so you can dine al fresco if the weather is good. You order your food from the counter and someone will bring it to you. The Dumb Waiter mainly deals on variations of English breakfasts and the good news is that the choices are as generous if you are a veggie or an omnivore. You can also combine ingredients to make your preferred dish if you prefer. Not only that but the portions are very generous and very freshly cooked, those veggie sausages are not some cheapo Quorn excuse...

...to choose from the menu. It may just be my experience, but the waiter serving us was very flirty with one of my mates, and got more so as the evening progressed! Maybe it was his Italian accent doing the trick, but it was certainly entertaining to watch! Anyway, the pizzas are served straight from the kiln-type thing they're cooked in, and they both tasted really good. I know this because my mate couldn't finish his, so I did the decent thing and polished it off for him. Unfortunately my other mate couldn't manage all her pasta, so I had to eat that as well! Three meals for the price of one, ideal! At this stage we were onto the third bottle of wine and things become decidedly hazy. Look Out For The Snooty Waiters

Advantages: Good food. Basement restaurant (Pier 32) is good value.
Disadvantages: Vey snooty staff in main restaurant.
