...The Waldorf Astoria, An iconic, Landmark Hotel. This hotel has been in many films, so....I suppose I should be saying wow. My husband and I visited New York in the February of 2005. I was treated to a stay at the Waldorf Astoria. When we entered the hotel, I was.......blown away. The entrance is plush, extravagant yet elegant, with a pianist playing music, for those that wish to sit and enjoy a drink and just take in their surroundings. The reception area again was stunning. That unfortunately is where the glamour of it all stopped, during our 10 day stay, I lost count of how many times their \"systems were down\". Checking in therefore took an age. When we eventually got our key and were directed to our room, the disapointment set in. The room was shabby, the bathroom, although ornate and I am sure impressive in it\'s time...

Waldorf Astoria Hotel, NYC

Advantages: 5 Star hotel in central location
Disadvantages: Some areas could be improved upon

...I stayed at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in January 2004, which was my first (and only so far) trip to New York, and at the time only my second trip to the USA. Given that I didn't feel I'd be regularly jetting off to New York, I'd decided to check us into the hotel I'd always heard about and hence had always wanted to stay at. We arrived late evening by taxi which dropped us off at the main entrance to the hotel on Park Avenue. The lobby area is large, with the reception being located right at the back, meaning you have to walk through the lobby and past the main lifts to get to check in to your room. It's not a problem as such, but you are left following your nose and common sense, which, when your body is telling you it's 2am, you're not really up to doing. One of Blackpools Hiccups!

Advantages: In a good spot near the Pleasure Beach
Disadvantages: Too expensive for that type of hotel

...A few weeks a go we spent a weekend in Blackpool and found The Waldorfe Hotel on the internet it looked very nice. Seventy eight pounds a night with breakfast for the two of us in a double en suite room was just about the right price that we were prepared to pay. We arrived at tea time on the Friday night and found the Waldorfe on the right hand side of the front passed the Pleasure Beach, not a bad spot to be and we were going to be given a sea view so I was quite pleased on the first glimpse of it from the road. Off street parking was provided at the back of the hotel so we decided to park up first then walk round to check in at reception. Parking in Blackpool is a nightmare so it was an added bonus the hotel having a car park. The hotel had one of those old fashioned turning doors it would have impressed me slightly more...

DON’T TRUST THE NAME

Advantages: Central and the Lobby is amazing

...If you don’t already know (where have you been?) l have just come back from an amazing 6 night stay in New York City. It was fabulous and amazing, but if there was one dark cloud on the horizon it would be our hotel. It simply did not live up to the high expectations l had set in my mind, and because of this we were severely let down. We stayed at the world renowned Waldorf Astoria hotel. It is a name that rings with luxury and top quality, at least that’s what l thought. The Waldorf is the hotel all the visiting dignitaries stay at and all the American presidents have at one point or other stayed in the hotel. The hotel is often the back drop for many movies – Maid in Manhattan and Coming to America are just a few that have used the luxurious lobby to film in. The hotel is styled in the Art Deco style...

Beautiful Hotel - worth the price

Advantages: Quality Counts
Disadvantages: You have to leave!!

...I've been a regular visitor to London over the past few years, both for business and pleasure and have yet to find a hotel that beats the Waldorf for style, quality and, in my opinion, value for money. Yes, you pay extra for this kind a style, but the hotel is ideally situated on Aldwych, which is close to Theatreland and Covent Garden and, of course, the Underground network, so the whole of London is within easy reach. The Hotel ************ The Waldorf Hotel was established almost a century ago, and despite various changes in ownership since then, has retained its reputation for Edwardian quality and style. The façade is very impressive, forming a crescent which follows the line of Aldwych perfectly, which means it is easily accessible for taxis and buses, slightly off the busier traffic in The Strand. ...I have always dreamed of going to New York and staying at the Waldorf Astoria, to me it represented the true glamour and romance of the city. Upon arriving we were tired and just wanted to have a shower and then head off to take in a few of the closer sights. The queue to check in was HUGE, and when we finally got to the front we weren't even greeted with a hello or smile, just got asked for our names, not a good first impression. However, we were upgraded to the Waldorf Towers, apparently the more luxurious part of the hotel. The Towers does have a fitness suite that Towers guests can use free of charge, and hotel guests can use at a supplement. ...The Waldorf Astoria, one of the world?s landmark hotels takes up an entire New York block, between Lexington & Park Avenues at 49th and 50th streets. We thought this would be the ideal place for our 4 night stay in New York in August 2003. We booked the hotel through expedia.co.uk and got a good deal which worked out at £50 per person per night (room only). I had read a number of reviews (on other websites ? so slap my hands!) and had mixed feelings about the accommodation we had booked. Some said it was great and others said it was pretty awful. It?s neither of those things, but it was an experience! Getting to our Room: We had booked a Limo to transfer us the 45 minutes from Newark Liberty Airport to the hotel. Advantages: Your staying in a historic Art Deco landmark!
Disadvantages: Service could be better....

...I had a very lucky trip to NYC Summer 2005. Lucky, because I went thru Priceline, and cheekily asked for a 5 star hotel, in August, for 5 nights, in downtown NYC for £75 a night! I ended up in the Waldorf Astoria!!! I've stayed in NYC for business before, and I knew to expect small rooms and spend a lot of money. Here, I was staying in the most historic hotel in the US, oozing Art Deco chic from every corner. Your first impression of the hotel is it's impressive Park Avenue frontage, seen many times in movies. The entrance and reception area is stunning . The clock in the reception hall, a stunning timepiece, shows you that this is no ordinary hotel. Reception was quick and pain free, and we were in our room in minutes. And a lovely room it was. A massive king size bed, with the requested cot bed from my daughter...
