Warhammer 40k
Review of Warhammer 40,000 by
webreaper
Advantages: Interesting and fun to play game and hobby.
Disadvantages: Not the worlds cheapest game/hobby.
...with the Warhammer 40k boxed set which cost £50. This leads to the games only downside - cost. It isn't exactly the worlds cheapest of hobbies. In order to fight some proper battles you need to buy more troops, etc. to add to your army. The boxed set only comes with a limited amount, enough to get you started. You can buy scenery to make your battlefields look that bit better, but again thay don't come cheap. You can actually have much more fun building your own, that's if you can be bothered.
When you get the figures they come unassembled and unpainted. This is another fun part to the hobby, painting and assembling them.I have spent hours so far painting mine. It's almost like a hobby in itself. Some of the models you see that other people have painted are almost like works of art.
The rule book that comes with the game contains all the rules you need...

Horus Heresy I - will hook you into the series
Review of Horus Rising (Horus Heresy) - Dan Abnett by
pjr218
Advantages: Good plot building opener
Disadvantages: some knowledge of Warhammer universe is required
...I came to this book after playing the Warhammer 40,000 - Dawn of War PC games, and never having played the table top game at all. Looking for something a little different in my paperback collection i decided to hunt for some sci-fi and came across the Black Library collection.
Armed with a basic knowledge of the Warhammer 40k universe i began this book in hop more than expectation of a decent read, finished the book in just a few sessions of reading, and promptly ordered the next 4 books in the series on the strength of it.
Abnett takes for granted that you will know the general back history of the universe he writes about so takes the opportunity to delve into character development and smaller scale, more up-close-and-personal views of the events, focusing mainly on one captain (Garviel Loken) in Horus' Space Marine Legion - The Luna...

The Serious Alternative.
Review of VOID 1.1 by
oneshallstand
Advantages: Fast System, good gameplay, nice character.
Disadvantages: Lacks some of the depth of more established games. But that should come
...Ok, I'll confess, I used to be a Warhammer 40,000 gamer. It started innocently enough, A Squat Here, A Goth Rock band there, but after a while it got serious, and expensive.
Several rules re-vamps later I got out, watching as miniatures became outdated and worried that I was generally more than the combined age of any two individuals in their stores (Sometime including a member of staff).
I found I drifted to Warzone, a gritty looking game (Like 40k was in it's heyday) but with a wonderful fast flowing rules system and great looking figures. Alas, it soon disappeared from these isles and became sadly missed.
Then came a shock, it appeared that the British team behind most of the good Warzone stuff had made a comeback. Void is a great refinement on the Old Warzone system, although initially it lacked character. I was working...

Wrohammer 40'000
Review of Warhammer 40,000 by
Inquisitor
Advantages: good game, friendly atmosphere, lots of opponents, good background,
Disadvantages: cost,
...I have been a avid warhammer 40'000 (WH40K) player for several years and am of the opinion that it is one of the best tabletop games around, indeed the games-workshop range must be the best range of table top wargames. WH40K for those of you who don't know is a table top wargame based in the 41st millenium when a human imperium lead by a crippled god emperor is best on all sides by enimies ranging from the brutal orks, to the extra galactic tyrinids, then on to the insidious forces of Chaos as well as the hauty eldar and the upcoming Tau empire not forgetting the long dead Necrons and Heritics, fortunately the Imperium has a strong force of warriors on its side with the space marines and guardsmen.
One of the major things that attracts me to WH40K is it's strong sense of history or 'Fluff' by finding the correct siites or books you...

Warhammer 40k A Mother's perspective
Review of Warhammer 40,000 by
AllySB
Advantages: really sociable game
Disadvantages: you get sterotyped
...To call it a Mother's perspective is only half the story. I actually sell this product for a living and have been ' widowed' to it as well.
So, the game itself. Warhammer 40k is a table top battle game played with miniature (25mm) armies. There are several armies to chose from, my son is currently playing Eldar, but has already played Space Marines, Dark Angels, Black Templers, Tyranids and Tau.
Initially the concept is to buy some figures, these then need to be assembled and painted. Once you have enough figures you can create an army - the figures are worth points and you play an equal number of points against an opponant.
The object of the game: to remove your opponant from the battlefield or to complete a set scenerio.
Their are several phases to each go.
Initially a movement phase - when you move you figures within...

dow a great rts?
Review of Warhammer 40 000: Dawn Of War (PC) by
sambridge15
Advantages: cheap fun long
Disadvantages: bit nerdy out dated next to expansion packs
...fighting the orks they encounter the ancient race of the elder and after fighting and aventualy allying themselves with the aliens they move onto fighting there fallen brothers the chaos marines! This is done in an atempt to stop an ancient demon from being released all this is a race against time as the planet will soon bee destoryed by a massive space storm(warp storm)
you will take comand of tanks hovercraft aliens walkers infantry commanders demons throughout the game and is great fun to play so to finish up this game is a great rts based on the table top game of warhammer 40k it is very loyal to this game its great fun has amazing graphics a nice story some fun missions but these can be a bit repetetive after a bit uniquie to the genre with its odd unit types and abilitys
i recomend it to warhammer players collectors as well...

Warhammer 40K D.O.W!!
Review of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War by
salty154
Advantages: exellent gameplay, great online mode and good graphics
Disadvantages: not much deatail in the single player campaign mode
...Ok i am a bit of a fan of the warhammer figures myself and then they started bringing out all these games........ i was thinking that they would be a disaster until i found this. i never played a futuristic stratagy war game before, normally i play things like "age of empires" and similar medeival games. I soon changed my gaming style when i played this, i was blown away when i experianced the intense action of D.O.W.
Knock yourself out with mass armies or keep it small and take the more "stelthy" approach. oviously you there is a limit so you cant go too crazy with nummbers. you can see your unit limit by looking at your..... well sort of like a "resource"..... anyways Warhammer 40K: Dawn Of War basicly consists of 4 races. Space Marines, Chaos Marines, Eldars and Orks.
in the expansion pack there is an added race...the "imperial army...

Games Workshop - NO Finer Model Shop!!
Review of Game Workshop (Shop) by
Darren-5-08
Advantages: Very friendly staff, beautful sculpts. Help always offered. Clear and affordable pricing.
Disadvantages: Some models overpriced. Plastic models, however, are very affordable.
...As soon as you walk through the doors of Games Workshop, you can be certain that you will be welcomed by the incredibly friendly staff. When it comes to buying miniatures, there is no finer place. Games Workshop has been an established business for decades (since 1975) and has gained a respectable reputation since then.
Games Workshop is often criticised for being to pricey. This is both true and untrue. Indeed, when you first begin to collect you will have to pay for all the paints to start with and, of course, figures to paint and you may end up spending between £50 and £80. However, after this, you may only end up spending between £5 and £10 each month, which really isn't very pricey at all.
There are three main areas of the Games Workshop World: Warhammer Fantasy Battles; Warhammer 40,000 (commonly known as Warhammer 40K); and Lord...

Dawn Of War (PC) Review by SondarPwnage
Review of Warhammer 40 000: Dawn Of War (PC) by
SondarPwnage
Advantages: Great Online Great Setting Good Graphics
Disadvantages: Story isn't amazing Winter Assault only adds one race not two like the other expansions
...Warhammer 40 000: Dawn Of War (PC) Review by SondarPwnage
I don't usually get very attatched to RTS's because im quite poor at playing them. However I do play Warhammer 40k in real life so I decided to give this one a go.
I'm glad I did.
The graphics are nice, they look pretty without drawing too much PC power. The effects look very good aswell, with rain crashing down as your green orkish horde rip the 'humies' limb from limb. The music deserves a mention aswell, with just the right tracks for the game.
As I said previously I don't usually like RTS's but the theme of this really gripped me. The four races in the original game and the new one added in the expansion pack make for exciting and varied gameplay.
Your main aim is to collect resources, namely requistion and power. Requistion is collected by capture certain points across...

Think Warhammer has no equal? Think again.
Review of Necromunda by
The_Splatter_Of_Matter
Advantages: Very fun to play, games can last a long time
Disadvantages: Hard to get hold of minitures, games can last a long time
...for messages and the like.
There are six main houses a player can take; House Orlock, House Goliath, House Van Saar, House Delaque, House Escher and House Cawdor. Each has its own particular way of fighting and so the gang you choose always feels individual and has its own strengths and weaknesses. This makes the games extremely in depth and always has the players paying attention to the opponent's moves. Along with the 6 main house gangs, there are other, more specialist gangs players can collect - The redemptionists, scavies, enforcers and Spyrers. Among those 10 gangs, players can also custom create their own gangs using specialist rules. Due to this there can be many different types of gangs being used, opening up cast and diverse tactics for the player.
Necromunda uses the 2nd Edition of Warhammer 40,000 rules - Currently 40k is on 4th...
