Nice laptop, FAB extended warranty!

Advantages: Good specs, fast, wonderful extended warranties
Disadvantages: Feels a bit flimsy, no indicator lights showing wifi connection, etc.

...This is really more a review of Dell's warranty than of the laptop itself, but as there was no section for such a thing I thought I'd combine the two. The laptop: It's a good little machine with pretty good specs for its price. You can already get more for your money than when we bought it just a few months ago, so check the current offers (make sure to look around the Web site, as I found by clicking on various offers I got the same machine for less) You can also now get a free upgrade to Windows 7 when that comes out later this year. It's fast, cute, and does everything we need. You can get it in a variety of colors, either for free if there is an offer on or for about 30 quid otherwise. Black is free whether an offer is on or not. Also, some have said it's not good for gaming -- that is probably only true if you are a hardcore gamer...

...To a consumer, manufacturer servicing and warranty procedures can be a minefield. When buying your new car you hardly give a second thought to servicing it, or even worse, you may have problems and break down. A lot of consumers when buying a car are aware of (as a general rule) a 3 year or 60,000 mile manufacturers warranty. Now this does not mean that all parts are covered for a full three years, this is a very important statement to remember as i see customer after customer who arent aware of this. Items such as clutches/brakes etc, are normally onlt covered for the first year or up to 20,000 miles, the reason being is later on down the line they are classed as a wear and tear item. When you buy a car it's not long before you recieve a letter stating that it is time for your service and can you please arrange for an appointment. Failed or worn out?

Advantages: Peace of mind, can last for three years
Disadvantages: Expensive, get out clauses

...Buy a new car & you automatically get a generous warranty with it, usually for a minimum of three years. That is three years peace of mind where apart from a handful of items (wiper blades, bulbs, brake pads, adjustments etc) everything is generally covered should something go wrong. Buy a used car within that warranty period & you will get the balance of the warranty, the only thing you need to do (as with any car) is to make sure the vehicle is serviced as per the manufacturers recommendations & everything should be OK. ...A really good experience. I have taken out a 2nd policy with Warranty Direct for my new car. I had an Omega 2.6 V6 which I took out a £290 gold cover policy. After a few months of ownership the car was using coolant and white smoke appeared. I took it to a network garage Nationwide Autocentre (more about this later) and WD took care of the whole bill, £1000. I had problems with Nationwide Autocentre, wrong information i.e. items not covered by warranty when they were, time delays, but no problems with WD. ...Picked and paid for 3-2-1 in February 2006, didn't get delivered till middle of July, on receipt the 2 seater had a large hole in the side of it, was told by delivery men that it must have happened during transit on the boat but they would report it. I made sure it was marked clearly on receipt. They then sent out someone to inspect it to see if it could be sorted but I refused, so replacement ordered received NOvember 2006. Took out warranty reported fault in January 2008 (which I had noticed for a while but was getting worse)that the front of 2 seater leather all sagging, phoned Homeserve who sent someone out who took photos but said he didnt think it would be covered as they dont see that as being a structural defaut ??
