A watch for the 21st century
Advantages: Technical features, no batteries, accurate, good looking, Japanese
Disadvantages: None at present
...I once took my battery operated watch to a well known high street jeweller to have the battery replaced, I was told it would only take 5 minutes & cost £4.99, it actually took 30 minutes & cost me £9.99 as they had problems with the battery. When I took it home the small stop watch function wouldn't work & the built in alarm didn't work either. I took it back & explained it was OK before they touched it, but they refused to accept liability so I was left with a watch that never worked properly again.
On another occasion another jeweller presented with a different watch stated that the movement was faulty & would cost approx £75.00 to replace, I left the shop & purchased a battery for 99p from Maplin, fitted it myself (this one had a small slot on the back to access the battery) & has worked perfectly since.
To say I have lost faith...

The environment friendly watch
Advantages: Solar driven watch, no battery required.
Disadvantages: None that I know of.
...My last watch has been with me for more than 10 years. It has been reliable until the past couple of years. It started mis-behaving, require constant battery changes, (a sure sign that the watch is dying), and frequently stopping whenever I fly.
So last Christmas, I decided to buy myself an eco-driven citizen watch. An eco-drive watch uses light energy to run itself. The light source can be sun (solar) or an incandescent lamp (such as in an office environment). The watch uses a solar panel, in this case, its the face dial, to convert light into electrical energy which is stored in a special energy cell. This allows the watch to last a long time without seeing any light, suitable for those of us who hibernate (Ha!); for those of us with very long winters and constantly wearing long sleeve clothes or just forgetting to charge it up...

Charming little watch
Advantages: charges constantly when its in the light
Disadvantages: i work at night and usually dont see the light
...My 'friend' decided i needed a special present this year for christmas and bought me the Citizen Ecodrive Charm bracelet watch. It's one which has been advertised quite alot in womens magazines, and it is very pretty and a bit different.
The bracelet is a basic silver coloured bracelet, attatched are five small handbag charms, one is plain silver colour, the other four have stones in different design 'handbags', the colours are pink, blue, yellow and clear. The watch itself is a slightly larger handbag shapewith clear 'diamonds' around the face and a blue pearly looking face. Its pretty and sparkles nicely which keeps him as amused as it does me, but then again hes amused by some very simple things - british money for one.
The second of these watches that I own is also the silver coloured version but this time has shell shaped charms...

Nice watch but short lifespan
Advantages: Nice watch, Looks good, Good Spec
Disadvantages: Short Lifespan
...I had this watch bought for me as a 21st birthday present from my father.
It is a nice looking watch, with an analogue display as the main part, and a small digital display aswell. There are also three small dials which show a 24 hour time, a 12 hour time, and the mode you are in. It has a countdown timer, a chronograph, date and time etc. and it can give you the time in 30 different countries.
I was impressed with the spec and the appearence of the watch. And it functioned perfectly for about three years. Then it sort of stopped. The anologue stopped moving, and the digital display froze on one time.
I took the watch back to Argos where it had originally been bought. They were helpful and sent it back to the manufacturer, explaining that I may have to pay for repairs, since it was out of warranty. I grudgingly accepted...

Citizen Skyhawk A-T Eco-drive watch
Advantages: Atomic time-keeping, solar powered, 200m WR
Disadvantages: Not the lightest of watches
...Citizen Skyhawk A-T Eco-drive watch, model no JY0000-53E.
At the time of writing, this watch is the top of the Skyhawk model range, Citizen's take on aviation themed watches. In addition to the usual Skyhawk features, the A-T model synchronises with the atomic clock signal. As well as being able to receive the European signal, it can also be trained to the USA and Japan time signals by setting the relevant time zone - an advantage over some of the cheaper atomic watches offered by other manufacturers.
The watch is a chunky design with a stainless steel bracelet and base contrasting the black face and rotating slide rule bezel. The hands are metallic with luminous inserts, and all the hour markers also contain the luminous inserts. The watch weighs in at 178g (on our digital kitchen scales) and the glass is 34mm diameter...

Delighted With The Citizen Eco-Drive Calibre Watch
Advantages: fast delivery, first class customer service
Disadvantages: none to be honest
...i've recently ordered the Citizen Eco-Drive Watch for my father online and found both the product and the company i ordered from to be top class. The delivery was next day, and it was free too (which makes a nice change) and the old man really liked his present too, so all in all, a good experience.
I have to recommend the company i purchased from, as i found them very helpful when i called them to find out more information about delivery, and returns policy, so thank you Mores Jewellers
The watch it's self i've been told is very comfortable and feels natural when wearing, it's heavy enough due to the quality, but light enough to not get in the way.
The gold remains to be as shiny today as it was when i brought the item (over 3 months ago) and the face isn't scratched, even though the watch is worn every day and not just...

IF NOT THE ROLLS ROYCE, THE LEXUS OF WATCHES
Advantages: Very good time-keeper. Classic Good Looks. Not Expensive for Technology Offered.
Disadvantages: In Five and a Half Years I Have Found None!
...Here comes an odd one for you!
As, during all of my months spent on review sites, I have yet to read a watch review, I thought that I would set myself the challenge of writing one. In truth it probably will not be the longest or most interesting review RICHADA has penned?..
?.but bear with me for a few minutes if you will.
Firstly, for those who do not know me that well, a little bit about me. I am no fan of jewellery, fashion or otherwise - at least not on my own person. As, hopefully, a relatively respectable company director, I do however have need of a passably accurate and presentable time-piece. Before any of you jump in with 'ah, but surely you have a mobile telephone and that shows the time!' well, yes that is true, but it is simply not as convenient as taking a quick glance at the left wrist. Neither does it show me...

Night Watch and Day Watch; two reviews in one!
Advantages: Two exceptional and highly original fantasy novels
Disadvantages: Not books for those looking for mindless entertainment; these are thinking fantasy novels
...NOTE: Due to Ciao not taking reviews for the Night Watch (which is the first book in the series of the same name, with Day Watch being the second) this is a review of the first two novels. If you just want to read a review The Day Watch, please skip to the second half.
THE NIGHT WATCH
The Night Watch is a science fiction novel written by Russian author Sergei Lukyanenko, and is the first book in the Night Watch trilogy. The book was originally written in Russian (obviously I am reviewing the translated English version), and the series as a whole has enjoyed fantastic success in Russia. It has also been critically acclaimed in other countries, including the UK, with The Daily Telegraph calling it "JK Rowling, Russian style". A bold claim indeed.
THE WORLD
The Night Watch is set in modern day Russia (Moscow...

Watching Me, Watching You
Advantages: Elegant yet robust looking, a good size for my tiny wrists, keeps good time
Disadvantages: Difficult to adjust, tiny day window, needed repairs to the crown
...Common sense would tell you that a watch is a device for telling time. It's a bonus if they look decent, but ultimately, what you want is one that will keep good time, that fits, that you can read easily and operate without any problems. It therefore does boggle my mind that one can pay hundreds, even thousands of pounds for a simple timekeeping device. Furthermore, it baffles me that the most expensive watches are not the most accurate. You see, quartz watches are typically the most accurate, however, the most expensive watches are 17 jewel.
I have for years been happy wearing cheaper quartz watches, usually made by Seiko. These typically retail for around £100. However, a couple of years ago, I had a yearning to own a more expensive, slightly prestige watch. I cannot afford the likes of Rolex, and couldn't justify buying one myself...

Diesel - one to watch!
Advantages: Subtle, classic, functional, comfortable
Disadvantages: Hard to find replacement strap
...For my 21st birthday, I decided that I wanted my parents to give me something I could keep for years to come. Jewellery was of course the first thing that sprung to mind. I didn't want a necklace I'd never wear, or a bracelet that would come out of its box once a year, so I decided to choose a nice watch.
I was living in Paris at the time, so enjoyed leisurely wandering around Galeries Lafayette and Printemps trying to pick out the watch that I wanted. I allowed myself to dream a little, wandering around the Bvlgari and Chanel stands, even wandering into the Swarovski shop. After several months, I still hadn't found The Perfect Watch, although I was umming and aahing about the DZ5102, essentially the white version of this watch. When I happened across this watch - DZ5104 - the same watch but in black, I knew I'd found it.
