Faliraki Water Park
Advantages: variety of rides, fun day out, enjoyable attractions, fair entry fee, easy to get to
Disadvantages: no straps on locker keys, limited shade on walkways resulting in burning feet, very hilly
...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Faliraki Water Park
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As a family we are fairly easy to please on holiday. We consist of my dad who is 42, my 17 year old brother, my 8 year old brother and myself (I am 20). We all enjoy similar things on holiday and our ideal day is lazing around by the pool and perhaps having a little wander round local villages then having something nice to eat and drink. One thing we all love are decent water parks. So whilst on holiday in Rhodes we planned a day out to the waterpark in Falraki as it was recommended by Thomson and we were able to purchase our tickets through them to save us queuing too much at the park itself.
Thomson did not do a set day excursion to the waterpark on the basis that it is so easy to get their by taxi and that then leaves it open for families to chose which days they...
Water and a Park... Kingsbury Water Park
Advantages: Cheap, a nice day out
Disadvantages: could probably be a bit boring for older kids
...*edited thanks to DrChazan's excellent advice!*
On Monday, the kids school had (another) teaching training day and after our next door neighbour heard me screaming at the kids for the 100th time by 11am, he suggested Kingsbury Water Park. I'd never heard of it, so full of excitement me and Mark got the kids into the car and set off with a boot full of sarnies and crisps.
Kingsbury Water Park is situated in Bodymoor Heath (just down the road from the Villa training ground). It covers 600 acres and inside all those acres lie 15 lakes. It was opened in 1975 and currently attracts more than 280,000 visitors a year. It was originally a series of sand and gravel pits but in the early 70's Warwickshire County Council decided to transform it into a Water Park. Half of the used up gravel pits were filled with water and thousands...
Improvements in Aquapolis water park
Advantages: Really great fun!
Disadvantages: Poor food quality :(
...This year I`ve spent my holidays in Cap Salou and the greatest highlight of it,believe it or not,was Aquapolis aqua park!
It has got some new great slides.The first one I`ve tried was the most daring one I would say.It`s called SPLASH!You get up about 30ft high and sit on the sledge.Then they release you and you slide all the way down really steap untill you hit the water and keep sledghing on top of water sometimes bouncing like the stone that has been skipped.I had to do that again and again!
Not sure if the black hole was there last year.It`s really good.I screamed my heart out.You just sit with another person on a double ring and then they push you into black hole.You can`t see much just feel the speed and some little flashing lights on the hardest bends.it`s where i started screaming.
For the ones who want just to relax...
Skegness Water Leisure Park (Tents and Caravans)
Advantages: Lovely surroundings, excellent on-site facilities, polite and friendly staff
Disadvantages: A fair walk to Fantasy Island, silly push button showers, some uneven ground for tents
...Well, it was mid-september, and we decided we needed a break, so being first time campers (I'd been camping when I was younger, with my parents and brother and sisters, but that was nearly 25 years ago, and now I had my own family), and having got all the camping gear, (frame tent, cooking stove, air beds, sleeping bags, etc), we decided to go camping in Ingoldmells in Skegness, (or Skeggy to most of us in Yorkshire!)
We searched the Internet for a place to stay, and came across a few sites, including The Skegness Leisure Water Park, which looked pretty good and reasonably priced.
We set off from Sheffield around 3pm, after having loaded the car up, (6 birth family frame tent with all poles, inner sleeping compartment and seperate ground sheet, cooking equipment, pots, pans, table, air bed, sleeping bags, suitcase, baby's travel cot...
There is more to Portugal than the Algarve - visit Lisbon
Advantages: Easy to get around and different quirky places to visit, everyone speaks English
Disadvantages: The City seems a bit 'faded glory'- places uncared for and tired
...and then under it to the area of Belem which is along the river bank and harbour area of Lisbon. We made our way along to our first stop which was the Belem Tower. The is a very ornate tower built in the Manueline style of Architecture ? so called after Manuel II as this was the style of design during his reign. The tower is not large and sits in the water and served to guard the entrance to the port of Lisbon. It is marble coloured and ornately carved rather similar to the carved architecture seen in India so may have been inspired by Indian influences. The tower and dates back to the early 16th Century.
Just close to the tower is a replica of a seaplane flown by Portuguese aviators Sacadura Cabral, as pilot, and Gago Coutinho, as navigator, across the Atlantic from Lisbon, Portugal to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1922. This is a tiny aircraft...
Portugal's Costa do Sol
Advantages: A Stretch of Coastline with Villas and Architecture from a Ggolden Era
Disadvantages: None
..., palm fringed promenade, chic cafes and restaurants and Tamariz beach where you can enjoy the sea and the sun. One of my favourite walks is through the park leading to the casino with its gardens, esplanades and fountains. It has the feel of the French Riveira without the hustle and bustle - far more relaxing.
The architecture in Estoril definitely has Arabic and Moorish influences but they weren't the first people to inhabit this area of Portugal. From various studies it is known that Paleothic man lived here. Also Eneolithic people lived in 4000 year old caves. There is also much evidence of Roman life about 1 AD. Villas have been excavated and inscriptions found of important family names. Some topographic names are from Arabic origins from the time they lived here and started to develop the land. Ibne Mucane was born in Alcabideche...
Graceful Portugal
Advantages: Relaxing, hot, beautiful scenery
Disadvantages: very steep streets, mad drivers
...I went on my first holiday aboard in 20yrs last year, with my sister, her husband, and their family - to Portugal, we stayed in an apartment complex a few miles out of Lagos -
We were only there for a week and had a day trip into Lagos - we caught the local bus, which was air conditioned, but was a bit rickerty, the journey took us about 40mins, through very narrow streets in places. At one point we thought the bus would not make it, but it limped and got us there. It cost us the equivalent of £2.00 each on the bus.
Once there the main highway boarding along the coast and the marina is very wide and very busy, there are many crossing along the road, which you can us to cross safely and go into the town.
We walked along the front, where you go to many little coves and swim in the sea - which is the most beautiful blue. One...
The modern face of Air Portugal
Advantages: Got there in one piece
Disadvantages: Ohhh where to begin? Customer service, Cabin crew, food?
...~Introduction~
Transportes Aereos Portugueses or TAP Portugal was formed in 1945. The first planes were converted C-47's (or Dakota's) as used by Allied forces to drop troops on D-day and ferry in supplies. Most of the original TAP pilots were trained in England by BOAC, whilst others completed training with Iberia the Spanish national airline. The early routes were local, the first was Lisbon to Madrid, then the major Portuguese cities were added and finally international destinations.
Step forward 50 years and we have the modern TAP Portugal with destinations to the major Portuguese cities, Europe, Africa and South America. In 2002 TAP carried over 5.5 million passengers on it's network, (Source: www.worldaviation.com). For this you get jet engine planes, grubby leather seats, sulky attendants, tasteless food and incompetent...
Portugal Revised
Advantages: see above
Disadvantages: see above
...After some helpful suggestions, I decided to do this opinion on the town in Portugal I went to, Lagos.
Lagos is on the western end of the Algarve, about 100km from Faro, and it is one of the most historical places in Portugal.
On the front, there is a huge statue of Henry the Navigator, possibly Portugal's biggest hero, but you can find a much stranger statue in the centre. It is supposed to resemble a spaceman, although it is actually a statue of a 15 year old king, and it is a very controversial statue, because this king led Portugal to a disastrous defeat in Morocco, but he made Lagos the capital of the Algarve, which earned him this statue.
The town today is one of the least built up in the Algarve, probably because it does not actually have its own beach. To the west, there are alot of smaller beaches, and not much building...
Northern Portugal - Something A Bit Different
Advantages: Quieter less popular holiday venue for Brits
Disadvantages: Weather doesn't stand comparison with the Algarve
...rather look down on it from a great height. Braga is actually the Minho province?s capital, with a reputation for religious fervour, and this in one of the most devout Catholic nations in Europe. Braga is famous throughout Portugal for the ?Bom Jesus?, which far from being the site of a miracle, is actually a baroque folly put there by the vertically-challenged local Archbishop, for no better reason than its lofty hill-top makes a great place for a church, and for penitents to crawl up to on bended knee, all several-hundred steps of it.
People with clear consciences and infidels use the water-powered funicular, which by some strange quirk of fate, is exactly what we did, since we just happened to have the ?1 fares ready and it would have been a shame to put them back in our wallets. The view from the top is astounding in how far you can...
