The National Waterfront Museum, Swansea

Advantages: Free, under cover, very child friendly
Disadvantages: None that I could see

...--LOCATION AND ACCESSIBILITY-- The National Waterfront Museum is located in Swansea's Maritime Quarter, about 5 minutes walk from the main city centre shops. From outside Swansea, exit the M4 at junction 42 (west) or junction 47 (east) - just keep following the brown signs - the Museum is clearly signposted and is very difficult to miss. There is a large 'pay and display' car park a short distance from the Museum (2 minutes walk). The car park costs £5.00 for a full day. Users of the car park who are visiting the Museum should inform the car park attendant that they intend to use the Museum, whereon you will receive a £3.50 discount voucher redeemable in the Museum's shop on that day. So parking really only costs £1.50 which is very reasonable as there are other things to see close by (Swansea Marina, amusement arcades, shops...

Waterfront dining

Advantages: Great view across the Marina
Disadvantages: Access is a little tricky to find

...Like many towns and cities these days Ipswich has developed its waterfront into a residential area and alongside the many high quality flats and boats there is obviously a need for some dining facilities. There aren't very many dining establishments in the area but those that are there tend to be quite distinctive. The Last Anchor is located on the Haven Marina which is opposite the main residential area. It is very popular with the sailing community and many people who dine there approach it from the quayside. The road access to it is quite tricky as when you first leave the main road you find yourself in quite a shabby and confusing area with rail tracks and gates to negotiate to get to the Marina. Once through these you eventually see it nestled amongst the boats looking quite unimpressive from the rear - more like the back...

Advantages: Brando is mesmerising and has real chemistry with Saint, whilst the rest of the cast hold their own
Disadvantages: Brando bears no resemblance to this anymore and Sinatra could have played his role!

A Day Out at the Waterfront

Advantages: A variety of things to do

...The Gunwharf Quays complex near Portsmouth Harbour station and the Historic Dockyard attracts visitors not only from Portsmouth and Southsea itself, but also from the Isle of Wight, Gosport, Hayling Island, Fareham, Cosham and Havant. Unmissable thanks to the Spinnaker Tower, it can be extremely crowded at weekends and during holiday periods. The waterfront location, however, makes it quite a special place, and I would recommend a visit on a weekday in fine weather. SHOPPING Gunwharf Quays is essentially a collection of factory outlet stores offering substantial discounts. For clothing, you can choose between Marks and Spencer's, Next, Gap, Monsoon and Fat Face among others. Advantages: Convenient, safe, clean, and accessible to any kind of transport
Disadvantages: Not much of events and programmes that I like most to watch

Seafood Heaven

...The Waterfront Restaurant is located in Oban, Argyll - tucked away on the pier. The outside is basic, boxy looking and unassuming and the actual restaurant is located on the first floor. The restaurant is one large room with an open kitchen and large windows on two sides overlooking Oban Bay and the Isle of Mull and off to one side McCaigs Tower (which is SO interesting in itself!). The view is stunning. We visited in August, during tourist season. Part of the fun was guessing which other patrons were tourists and determining their country of origin simply by their clothing! The night we were there the restaurant was overflowing with people and very busy. Every one of the 30 or so tables was full and more people were lined up outside waiting to get in.
