The Waterside Bistro at Totnes

...I'm a regular visitor to the waterside in Totnes and wholeheartedly recommend it, whether you are a diserning gourmet or belong to the bowl of chips brigade it has something to suit both alike. I sometimes meet mates here after work for a pint of Erdinger (happy hour from 5pm to 7pm). When the sun's out there's nothing quite like sitting in the sun on the patio with a chilled beer. The waterside is situated by the river dart next to the old bridge and overlooks the Burgh 'Island'. The Island is a strip of land connected to the old bridge and surrounded by water which is popular with visitors. There's a downside to this visitors do sometimes feed the seagull's when they are on the Island this can occasionally cause problems with unwelcomed guests on the waterside patio.   The Waterside Inn, Bray

Advantages: Best food, fantastic service, great venue
Disadvantages: Pricey

...The Waterside Inn, Bray, Berkshire One of only three 3* Michelin restaurants in the UK, Bray is blessed by having two such illustrious establishments. The Riverside Inn is owned and run by Michel and Alain Roux (father and son). Alain is the Chef Patron. The Waterside Inn had one star until 1977 when it was awarded the second Michelin star. In 1985 the coveted third star was awarded which it has held ever since (20 years!). There is no other establishment in the UK with such an illustrious record of culinary excellence. I decided to organise a once in a very-very-long-while treat for my wife and I in 2006 to celebrate, Birthday, Valentine's day and a love of good food and wine. A mini-gourmet holiday. Waterside Wonder

Advantages: Brilliant for nightlife
Disadvantages: Need to walk up a big hill to get to the shops

...Me and a few friends travelled to Newcastle the weekend just gone. We wanted to go somewhere different and quite cheap and so decided on newcastle, and the Waterside Hotel. For a weekend break a double room (2 singles or one double although the singles tend to run out quicker)costs £55 which is a very good price for what you get. The rooms are quite old fashioned in style but this is fine as all rooms are en suite and have a bath, shower, kettle, ironing board(not that anyone uses it), coloured t.v. with most satellite channels, and a mini bar(although you need a key from reception for this!) We did not have breakfast as it was quite expensive, generally i think about £11 but this was ok as the hotel is surrounded by cafes, bars and pubs where food can be picked up easily. The hotel is quite friendly and reception is open...

...When you get to my age (32), the thought of celebrating your birthday with a monumental piss-up just doesn't have the same appeal as it used to. So I informed my boyfriend that this year, we would be marking the event with a lovely meal in a tranquil setting, instead of with cheap vodka in a filthy, smoky boozer. I researched the options for out of town, alfresco sunshine dining and came up with the same advice time and time again - go to the Waterside Bistro! I had vague memories of going there as a kid and playing on the grass beside a river, but hadn't revisited as a grown up. When I phoned to book a table, I was told that if I wanted to dine in the Bistro (as opposed to the infinitely posher and more expensive Restaurant) then no reservation was necessary unless my party was of six or more people. Excellent Value Gymnasium

Advantages: Cheap, wide range of mahcines

I never thought I would need to join a gym as I could train there. However since joining Waterside Gym in Canvey, Essex, I have been able to nearly double my weights and I have got bigger. This is because there is a wide range of machines and free weights meaning morevariation in your workout. The Fitness Horizon Suite is split into three sections. The first section has all the fitness machines, the second has some machines for building and toning. Then there is the free weights room which has the big machines for all the most strenuous workouts. YOu need an induction to join theis gym which costs £32(full) then there are monthly and yearly memberships or you can pay £4 each time if...

A masterpiece of a film

...There are some films that have little advertising and promotion before launch, which end up being massive hits. The Usual Suspects, directed by Bryan Singer in 1995, is one of these films. The Usual Suspects is told in flashback after a waterside explosion killing twenty seven people. It revolves around five criminals, Dean Keaton (Gabriel Byrne), Michael McManus (Stephen Baldwin), Fred Fenster (Benicio Del Toro), Todd Hockney (Kevin Pollak) and Roger 'Verbal' Kint (Kevin Spacey), who meet during a police line-up, which they are all part off. legends and honesty

Advantages: Good cross section of artist work
Disadvantages: not to everyones tastes

...A cracking album from one of the u.k top folk artists. This album shows a true cross section of work from Bert's repertoire. Personally, i like every track on the album and as a fellow musician Bert's arrangements are exceptionally good and complex! There are the traditional tracks like "Black waterside" (Led Zeplin used Bert's arrangement for one of their own tracks,) aswell as reading of "Nottamun Town" and the murder ballad "Bruton Town." If you like your english folk music then you can't go wrong with one of the best examples of folk guitar. This album is a mixture of self-penned songs, trad folk and examples of the tunes that were taken into his band The Pentangle. I have been a fan of Bert's for years and this album is one of the best examples of his career spanning the last 40 yrs....

Magnificent Harbour

Advantages: Woderful place to visit
Disadvantages: none

...What a beautiful place - as a strict county bloke I've never liked cities but the one exception has to be Sydney. The huge harbour is home to ships and sails of all shapes and sizes, with Ferries plying their way across the harbour. Centrepoint tower has to be the best place to start an exploration of the city, from the magnificent veiwing decks the tourist can see over Botany Bay one way and over to the Blue Mountains the other. A monorail links the city with close outlying areas such as Darling Harbour where restaurants and bars luine the waterside. For the backpacker there is no end of backpacker motels and YHA's with plenty of pubs scattered around them! Outside of the city, the Blue Mountains is a great place to visit....
