Hotpoint WD860P
Review of Hotpoint WD860G by
goofy76
Advantages: Variety of Functions
Disadvantages: Reliability plus poor customer service from Hotpoint
...This washer dryer has all the features that I look for in a washer dryer, it could spin dry my clothes to 1600rpm which was very convenient when I needed to wash and dry clothes in a hurry. The quick wash feature is also very helpful and economical too. All in all, the washing machine element of this washer dryer is excellent. However, there have been many problems I have experienced with the dryer. I have owned the washer dryer for 2 years now and it has been necessary to call out an engineer to fix my appliance on 7 occasions. The entire heater has required replacing twice and the customer service has been totally unacceptable. However, on the positive side, if the dryer is not working at least the washer continues to function normally. I would rate the reliability of this product as very poor however the functionality as excellent....

Poor build and/or materials
Review of Earlex WD1200 by
bbach
Advantages: Long hose - Auto-start power take off
Disadvantages: Poor quality - 1200 watt motor a little under-powered - dustbags expensive
...I bought this powervac as it seemed to have all the elements that I wanted including a useful power take-off socket with autostart. However the plastic hose collar split while push fitting it to the extension tubes. The collar is too thin to take the compression force needed to secure the tube into the hose. The split went along the moulding joint which was clearly a weak link in the product. I would have expected something more robust from a workshop product. The motor is very large and takes up much of the room within the 20 litre plastic canister. The dust bag is a 'fiddle' to attach. I never got to try out the wet element.
In summary:
Not a robust product and a little underpowered at 1200 watt
Try the Ebauer for the same money - it has a stainless steel tank, larger capacity and metal tubes....

Something For Lubrication, Sir?
Review of WD-40 Lubrication Spray by
fclayson
Advantages: versatile, essential for everyday use, lifesaver, cheap
Disadvantages: inflammable, won't get rid of the MK concrete cows
...it won't get that Galaxy bar off you though; NASA can never get on top of THAT technology...
One serious use is squirting into Moto Guzzi ignition switches. You see, MG ignition switches are right on top of the machine and open to the elements. Rain finds its way into the workings and causes shorts, but a quick zap with WD40 (using the little tube provided) will shoosh that water right out of your electrical bits. WD40 hates water and will dispel it with alacrity, so when your car refuses to start on damp days, a squirt with WD will work wonders on ignition leads and plugs. I use it to clean my contact points when i adjust them; a major improvement will be noticed.
If your Yale lock is becoming grotty, a squirt will restore it to prime condition, and no home should be without a can or two. There are literally 1001 uses for this versatile...

Western Digital Scorpio 250 GB 2.5-inch Hard-Drive
Review of Western Digital Scorpio WD2500BEVE 250 GB by
Acidcub3
Advantages: 250GB Lots of memory, Low power consumption, Cheap
Disadvantages: 2.5-inch limits it to USUALLY Laptops but can be used in desktop computers
...Fairly decent hard-drive.
Western Digital are a well trusted company, especially for computer equipment. 250GB is a massive storage device, you could store ALOT and with low power consumption makes it even better. Looking at the prices too this is a real bargin! I really recommend this hard-drive, the real-time data protection will help if your computer ever shuts off. It is also a 2.5-inch hard-drive which usually associates with laptops, however there are some desktop computers which could use this. If you did want to buy this for a desktop computer but your computer could only use 3.5-inch then you could buy an external hard-drive shell which could plug straight into your computer OR laptop through USB or Firewire. Overall I think this is a very nice hard-drive and a good bargin at the price it's avaliable for....

Performance but at a Price
Review of Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150 GB by
farrukh004
Advantages: Fast Fast & Fast!
Disadvantages: Hot, Pricy.
...Western Digital does it again. They release an update to the fastest Sata drive on the market, which was overdue, but well worth the wait. These drives are up to any task you can throw at them.
These Raptors are super fast. Simply, the fastest available hard drive for desktop computers in the world. They have got excellent seek time and data transfer rate. Installing and loading Windows is just fun on these drives. Games load extremely fast. Data copying is just matter of minutes. You can even combine two Raptors in raid to increase the performance beyond all levels.
The drive is fast but gets hot. So, proper air flow across the drive is very important. One more negative aspect of the drive is its very high price. Also, the drive is available in a maximum capacity of 150 GB which is very little for these days.
The decision is up to you...

Hotpoint WD51
Review of Hotpoint First Edition WD51 by
LawrenceP
Advantages: The scrapman will always give you a few quid for it
Disadvantages: It's Hotpoint!
...This is more of an addendum to the previous review.
I have had all the problems like the last reviewer and many more. Before I write the "list" you have to ask yourself, "is this guy extremely unlucky or is Hotpoint machines really rubbish?"
Problems:
wouldnt drain water, replaced programmer,
again, wouldnt drain water, replaced pump.
fast spin kept blowing household fuse, replaced motor brushes, problem came back, replaced motor.
Fuses started blowing again, this time it was the dryer element which was replaced.
Machine started making horrible noise when spinning, replaced bearing (which was very tricky as old bearing cracked and expanded)
Spinning started becoming erratic, replaced motor wiring module, started doing same thing again, replaced module wiring, as I am writing this today I have just replaced brushes for the 5th time...

Magic can of stuff
Review of WD-40 Lubrication Spray by
Kingseany
Advantages: Works on everything
Disadvantages: There are none
...The WD-40 company recently celebrated 50 years of business, and now markets it's products to more than 160 countries around the world. There can't therefore be many who don't know who they are or what they are famous for.
Some of the great successful companies have the simplest of products, and of course those products which actually work, and almost sell things that everyone can find a use for.
The original WD-40 is a familiar spray can of lubrication oil. It's uses are numerous, thousands anyway. You'll find it in homes and garages, sheds, cupboards, cars and boats - everywhere. Where do you keep yours?
Basically anything that squeaks, moves, hardens and so on can benefit from a good squirt of WD-40. The most obvious use, is for those doors which always squeak, and from some magic in this can - that annoying noise is gone just like...

If you can afford it, theres no substitue
Review of Western Digital Raptor WD360GD 36.7 GB by
fitz101
Advantages: Fast, fast and fast!
Disadvantages: Noisy and expensive
...to the Windows XP desktop in just over 30 seconds!
To install you need a set of driver floppies for your chosen SATA controller, usually downloaded from the website. This isnt true of pre-NT OSs (Win98 etc.) which can use the disk straight off! (atleast with a Sil3114 SATA chipset, not guaranteed with others).
Physical installation is like any other HDD, with no problems at all. The drive has connectors for both a SATA power cable and a standard molex connector, great if you have an old PSU. It's also well built, although it does get very hot during heavy usage so make sure you have plenty of cooling.
Pros: fast as lightening
Cons: expensive, noisy and not great capacity
Conclusion: if money where really no object you'd go for SCSI, but for most home users this is the best you can get. If you need more space, consider the 74GB version, or like...
