Holidaying in North Wales

Advantages: Beautiful location, fantastic cottages with all amenities
Disadvantages: Just that you need some form of transport

We have stayed in four lovely places, but the last place was rather grim, so I thought I would share our experience so others can try and avoid doing what we did!   A very relaxing holiday..... even with kids!

Advantages: Peaceful, tranquil & wonderful views & surroundings, even if you don't play golf!
Disadvantages: Maybe unsuitable for wheelchairs and the infirm because of steep steps to the property.

Sykes cottages 'Don't care attitude' Again!

Disadvantages: Inaccurate descriptions, no trusts that inspections are carried out adequately, unclean etc

...We booked a cottage through Sykes cottages in Wales and found the property owners lived in the basement - they could hear everything we were doing. This was not explained in the brochure and when we queried it before arriving - problems with arranging key collection made us suspicious - we were told not to be so silly and of course the owners didn't live at the property. In addition to this the property was not up to scratch - not clean (the worst being blood found under toilet seat), antiquated heating system, inadequate smoke alarms, strange things happening with electrics etc. To top it all we also found fleas throughout the property that left us with numerous bites to our legs - the property was advertised as pet free but the owners used the property during the winter and had a dog! ...I have read the two previous reviews on Sykes Cottages and have to agree with the general view that once they have the booking they are not interested in any complaint and just pass on responsibility to the owner. In our case we booked a week in a cottage in November and have two complaints arising from inadequate description or misleading information. 1 There was a winding, narrow stairway with no handrail, and none of this was stated in the brochure. In our opinion this made it quite unsuitable for the elderly or infirm and after struggling for three days we abandoned our break and came home. 2 The brochure said ? Roadside parking for 1 car (1 min walk from property). ? which to me means a reserved space is available. There was no such space and it was necessary to search for a place which when found was seldom within 1 min. Sykes...

...We have booked holidays with this company for approximately 4 years now, some 8 holidays. We have always found them to be professional and helpful, even when wanting to book a last minute break - they searched for properties for us and gave us plenty of details over the phone and didn't mind being on the phone for half an hour at their expense. On the one occasion we had cause to complain about the accommodation and the owners, the company were professional, helpful and apologetic. I would throughly recommend this company for the choice of properties available, their professionalism and the ease of use of their website. ...TIBBLES COTTAGE, COURT COCKING, St IVES CORNWALL, is where we have just spent a week. The Cottage can be rented through Lanhams of St Ives. It is located in a small lane called Court Cocking ( do not ask the meaning of the name) which runs from the Harbour up to the main Street of St Ives called Fore Street. The front door is a Stable type door, which is about 10 yards from the Harbour, ideal in the morning to make a Coffee then sit by the Harbour enjoying the view. The cottage is 3 storied. GROUND FLOOR:- This is the main living area, at one end ,as can be seen in the photograph there is a small blue Settee in front of a sash window that looks out onto the lane.
