The Wellington Hotel

Advantages: Location, freindly helpful staff
Disadvantages: bit tired/dated

...We are just back from 4 nights in The Wellington Hotel. We booked it back in Jan'07 thru an online hotel booking site (I may have mentioned it in other reviews) We also booked flights directly with BA thru their website. We had stayed in NewYork about 2 years ago in a YMCA in the upper westside. However as my oldies were coming with us we had to book a hotel. We booked a suite at The Wellington for around £780 for 4 adults for 4 nights and the BA flights from ABZ cost around £1,200 for the 4 of us. We arrived at JFK around 1600hrs and after clearing immigration and a lenghty taxi journey we arrived at the hotel about 1800hrs. Wellington Country Park

Advantages: Reasonable prices, tranquil setting, great for picnics, lots to do for children.
Disadvantages: Lack of toilets further down the park, too much bird pooh.

...Last week I was privileged to be a parent helper on my daughter?s pre-school trip. The destination was not far from our home address yet I had never heard of this place before. Not only was I able to spend the day with a lovely group of pre-schoolers but I was able to take in some breathtaking scenery and fresh air. What a thoroughly enjoyable day lay ahead for us all and this park deserves a review to encourage (hopefully) more visitors. The Wellington The Hotel That Never Sleeps

Advantages: good convinient location, exceptionally clean, very good price
Disadvantages: A bit dated, very busy, staff are not always available

...Most people know New York City as the city that never sleeps or the big apple. Whatever you name New York City it is the largest city in America and has much to offer visitors all around the world. Traveling to New York gave me the opportunity to explore this wonderful City. There is so much to do and see that I was never bored. Travelling through New York is easy as most places are within walking distance and if not you can get a tube or bus. There are many hotels to choose from and finding the right one can be a difficult choice. We chose The Wellington Hotel. I thought it was the right decision when I booked it and as soon as I saw the hotel I knew I had made the right decision. WINDY WELLINGTON

Advantages: Great place for all!
Disadvantages: Windy is the name!

...When you ask people what the capital of New Zealand is, they’ll probably say Auckland. Yes… Wellington is the capital of New Zealand. You can feast yourself by visiting the ‘Beehive’, (Government buildings), and even listen in to the local politicians. It’s not as extravagant as the House of Lords, however- it’s still a ‘debate’, even if you can’t join in! From Wellington you can catch the ferry to Picton, there’s three ships that sail and it doesn’t take very long to get across. Dolphins normally accompany you if it isn’t too windy. When I say windy, wellington has been given the name ‘Windy Wellington’ by the locals, because it's always windy! One of the most famous peices of history for Wellington is the sinking of the Wahine ship...

Wellington Hotel : Adequate but not great

Disadvantages: Room was small and needed updating

...I stayed at the Wellington hotel on my second trip to New York, and the decision was based on a recommendation from the Travel Agent. There were a few people in reception when we arrived and it took about half an hour to be checked in. We had booked one double room and one twin room for our party but were told that there was no twin rooms available so we would have to have a double with a foldaway bed, which someone would bring to the room. When it arrived there was no way I would be sleeping on it as it seemed to be about 30 years old and ready to collapse at any minute. Fortunately I was staying with my sister so it wasn't really a huge problem that we shared a double bed. I wasn't really happy with the room itself, it was small and the view was of an apartment building not even the street. It was in dire need of updating...

Family day out at Wellington Zoo

Advantages: Well planned for families
Disadvantages: On a hill so be fit

...Set on a hill overlooking Wellington's suburbs is an ideal home for a wide range of animals, birds, fish and even the shy, flightless kiwi, the nation's treasured, nocturnal bird. There's an obvious focus on providing a natural environment for the animals with plenty of trees and other relevant features which the animals would enjoy in the wild. While the `residents' are presented in the best condition for public enjoyment and education you can see that staff and management concentrate hugely on animal welfare and stimulation. I've read some of the enterprising breeding programmes which go on at Wellington Zoo and this augurs well for some of the species which need a little help from man. I've taken my children and grandchildren to Wellington Zoo and over the years it has improved hugely. They've all loved the little...

Advantages: Great nightlife
Disadvantages: Not a lot to do during the day

...I have been to Wellington twice once in 2005 and again in 2007. Wellington was not may favorite place in New Zealand, however as it is a city it has really good night life, with many bars, pubs, and restaurants. So if you need a good night out then Wellington is definately one of the best places to go out. During the day Wellington has many good shops so if you enjoy shopping then you could easily spend a whole day shopping in Wellignton. When you come to the end of your stay in Welington and you need to decide how to get to the south island then I would recommend the ferry wich takes you across into the small town of Picton which is very nice, or plane which is a lot quicker and takes you into Nelson. I have done both and the plane is a lot quicker but I spent one night in Picton which was really relaxing and I really enjoyed the coach...

Wellington. If you are young - give it the boot

Advantages: A nice looking, small city, easily explorable
Disadvantages: Not much left to do after 2 days! Young people will be bored unless they like museums.

...******Reason for "average" rating****** I'd like to say that I quite enjoyed my visit to Wellington - but I'm an old(ish) fart. This Review is very much written from the viewpoint of a young person - who would find the place boring! *****The Arrival**** After a hair raising, but fun, landing at the local airport (the plane has to land in very windy conditions just above the sea and rocks) we found the main terminal building nearly deserted - even though it was the middle of the day. We managed to get a local taxi into the main tourist information centre in the city. The taxi journey only took 10 minutes and wasn't expensive. You may want to think about booking accommodation in advance. We really struggled to get something for 5 of us and the tourist information centre closes at 5pm - we arrived at 4.50pm. The "3 star...
