The Wellington Hotel
Advantages: Location, freindly helpful staff
Disadvantages: bit tired/dated
...We are just back from 4 nights in The Wellington Hotel. We booked it back in Jan'07 thru an online hotel booking site (I may have mentioned it in other reviews) We also booked flights directly with BA thru their website.
We had stayed in NewYork about 2 years ago in a YMCA in the upper westside. However as my oldies were coming with us we had to book a hotel.
We booked a suite at The Wellington for around £780 for 4 adults for 4 nights and the BA flights from ABZ cost around £1,200 for the 4 of us.
We arrived at JFK around 1600hrs and after clearing immigration and a lenghty taxi journey we arrived at the hotel about 1800hrs.
The hotel looked impressive from outside, the lights of Times Square were visable from the front door. The reception area is very nice, a huge chandalier greets you. The reception desk is small and quite...

The Wellington The Hotel That Never Sleeps
Advantages: good convinient location, exceptionally clean, very good price
Disadvantages: A bit dated, very busy, staff are not always available
...Most people know New York City as the city that never sleeps or the big apple. Whatever you name New York City it is the largest city in America and has much to offer visitors all around the world. Traveling to New York gave me the opportunity to explore this wonderful City. There is so much to do and see that I was never bored. Travelling through New York is easy as most places are within walking distance and if not you can get a tube or bus.
There are many hotels to choose from and finding the right one can be a difficult choice. We chose The Wellington Hotel. I thought it was the right decision when I booked it and as soon as I saw the hotel I knew I had made the right decision. The outside of the hotel looks impressive and you can see the lights from Times Square which is really cosy and inviting.
Walking through the reception...

Wellington Hotel, NYC
Advantages: Central Location
Disadvantages: Room Size
...We stayed here in Feb 2008 after booking through an online travel company. We booked our flights with another online company. We were very happy with this mid-range hotel. It has an impressive exterior but we were slightly disappointed with the room sizes and the staff were not overly friendly - constant tipping required in return for information!
The hotel is ideally located 10 mins from Times Square and 5 mins from Central Park. There is an amazing deli opposite the hotel which I would highly recommend after a long day out for a quick bite to eat.
We were offered an upgrade on arrival and the room was average - not very clean but somewhere to rest after a day's sightseeing and shopping. Make sure you take a bus tour and give the outlet village a miss!...

Wellington Hotel : Adequate but not great
Advantages: Location, food available downstairs
Disadvantages: Room was small and needed updating
...I stayed at the Wellington hotel on my second trip to New York, and the decision was based on a recommendation from the Travel Agent.
There were a few people in reception when we arrived and it took about half an hour to be checked in. We had booked one double room and one twin room for our party but were told that there was no twin rooms available so we would have to have a double with a foldaway bed, which someone would bring to the room. When it arrived there was no way I would be sleeping on it as it seemed to be about 30 years old and ready to collapse at any minute. Fortunately I was staying with my sister so it wasn't really a huge problem that we shared a double bed.
I wasn't really happy with the room itself, it was small and the view was of an apartment building not even the street. It was in dire need of updating...

A hotel in the heart of New York City
Advantages: Great Location, Clean and Friendly Staff
Disadvantages: Views from hotel itself not great, no free wi fi
...My boyfriend turned 30 a few weeks ago and for his present I booked us a trip to New York and the Wellington Hotel is where I picked for us to stay due to its central location in Manhattan.
Last Wednesday we flew out to NYC and checked into the Wellington.
If you didn't know already this is where part of the Borat film was made, the main scene being where he tries to unpack his things in the lift thinking its his room and so many Borat jokes ensued in the elevators during our stay.
The location of the hotel is amazing, its a 1 minute walk from Carnegie Hall, 2 minutes from Central Park and 5 minutes from Times Square and is located on the corner of 55th Street and 7th Avenue. The placement of the hotel was my favourite thing about it as it was just so easy to walk to some of the city's best attractions from here.
When we checked in...

Great Location...Dated Hotel...
Advantages: Location, Location, Location :-)
Disadvantages: Tired and Dated Hotel :-(
...We booked up The Wellington Hotel for Seven Nights on the Alpharooms website (cheapest we could find) for two people it came to £920; which is a good price for a week in a mid-range hotel in NYC.
Most of the reviews read favourably, indicating that the main advantage of staying here was its location on 7th Ave/55th St.
Upon entering the Hotel we were greeted with a HUGE grand looking chandelier, lighting up the reception area. The staff were pleasant and helpful when checking us in, upgrading us to a Queen Room instead of the Double we'd previously booked, without us even having to ask!
Our room was located on the 9th floor (923 if you're interested!) But upon entering the lifts to head up to our room we got an inkling as to what was in store. It's a very tired, old hotel in desperate need of a makeover. The elevators are very slow...

Wellington Country Park
Advantages: Reasonable prices, tranquil setting, great for picnics, lots to do for children.
Disadvantages: Lack of toilets further down the park, too much bird pooh.
...Last week I was privileged to be a parent helper on my daughter?s pre-school trip. The destination was not far from our home address yet I had never heard of this place before. Not only was I able to spend the day with a lovely group of pre-schoolers but I was able to take in some breathtaking scenery and fresh air.
What a thoroughly enjoyable day lay ahead for us all and this park deserves a review to encourage (hopefully) more visitors. Situated within easy reach of both the M4 and M3, the park is open daily and is well signposted from the A33.

Disappointed with luxury in New Zealand
Advantages: Location
Disadvantages: Rude staff, tired decor, poor value for money.
...I stayed at the Duxton Hotel in Wellington in February this year following the wedding reception of my sister in law. The reception was held in the hotel so we decided that it would be far easier to stay over afterwards.
The hotel is located on the sea front and you have amazing views (if you are in the front half of the hotel) of Wellington Harbour.
You arrive at the hotel and your car is taken away by a valet to be parked somewhere - so far so good you think- this is a luxury hotel.
You would be mistaken though - the reception staff do not grace you with a smile - they are straight faced and unwelcoming, serving you as if you are doing them a favour by staying there.
We were given the key to our room which was, at least clean and tidy, although there were hairs in the shower area that belonged to the cleaner/ previous...

WINDY WELLINGTON
Advantages: Great place for all!
Disadvantages: Windy is the name!
...When you ask people what the capital of New Zealand is, they’ll probably say Auckland.
Yes… Wellington is the capital of New Zealand.
You can feast yourself by visiting the ‘Beehive’, (Government buildings), and even listen in to the local politicians.
It’s not as extravagant as the House of Lords, however- it’s still a ‘debate’, even if you can’t join in!
From Wellington you can catch the ferry to Picton, there’s three ships that sail and it doesn’t take very long to get across. Dolphins normally accompany you if it isn’t too windy.
When I say windy, wellington has been given the name ‘Windy Wellington’ by the locals, because it's always windy!
One of the most famous peices of history for Wellington is the sinking of the Wahine ship...
